Pokémon cards allegedly link to adult website: QR code misdirects, shocks family

KPTV has reported that a family in Oregon received a big shock while playing with some new Pokémon cards. Rather than accessing a Pokémon website, the quick response code on the product apparently linked to an adult website.

No, I think the QR code got to its intended target. I bet that website contained Cloysters.

    Lots and lots of Cloysters.

QR codes in this context should contain an URL. There's an off chance the reader somehow read the code incorrectly, but it's even less likely it would've corrupted that badly to link to an entirely different site.

    Sounds like a hoax.

I've been redirected to websites before because of a virus. Maybe they have a virus and it did the same but to a 'naughty website'. Either that or this family is full of it and they just want to try to sue over something and they're making it up. Personally I think its a lie.

As I said on the talk page before the article was published, I scanned the QR Code provided in the article with my iPhone and I was shown the Pokémon Online code in the notes app as usual which is why I added the rumor template to the article.

I also think that it is most likely a hoax.

The sad thing is, this is probably exactly what happened. Some people are just this stupid to make this sort of excuse -_-

Yep, it was probably a hoax to make the Pokemon series look bad, similar to the swastika in that Golbat card, Jynx being racist and some other things (though they weren't hoaxes).

    Two girls, one Onix...?

LOL, but in all seriousness, this is all probably a plot by some weird organization to say Pokemon is sinful, or something. I definitely don't think anyone should be taking it seriously. Probably the family wanted some media attention and some cash from Nintendo to "hush them up," since that's the state society seems to have gotten into.

    Here's what really happened:
    1) Mr. Lapp was watching porn (hehe Lapp Dancing)
    2) Mrs. Lapp comes in.
    3) Mr. Lapp panics and sees his son's Pokémon cards on the desk.
    4) Mr. Lapp blames the cards.
    5) Mr. Lapp isn't made to sleep on the couch that night.

    What probably happened

Mom: Jack, why are you watching porn again?
Jack: It was my Pokemon card that took me there.
    Mom: Oh, never mind.

I agree with the thoughts about what really happened but I also think that when Mr. Lapp said that it was from a Pokémon card Mrs. Lapp believed him and then she reported it to KPTV.
