Hi folks, this has probably been asked before but I couldn't see anything.
I'm new to the whole manga scene but what defines a Volume and a chapter?
A chapter is one part of the story and will generally have its own title. For instance (because I have it sitting next to me), the first chapter of volume 7 of DPA is called "Look for Giratina!".
And "volume 7"? Because it's the seventh collected volume of the series, made of combined single issues.

A "volume" is one book's worth of manga.
"Chapter" is a bit trickier. Generally, a "chapter" is one part of the story, and a "volume" is composed of several chapters. However, with the manga Pokemon Adventures (or Pokemon Special, which is the Japanese name), the name "chapter" also used to describe the entire story arc, which is composed of several volumes (as in, "the Gold, Silver and Crystal chapter"), and what would normally be called "chapters" are called "rounds". confused yet? 8D
It's exactly the same thing as a volume or a chapter when talking about novels.Originally Posted by IceWolf762
