Thread: Similarities between "Pocket Monsters Reburst" and "Digimon Frontier?"

So, how similar are the two stories? Other than the "humans-turning-into-____mon" thing, are there any other similarities between the two?

There are some similarities...but only a few (Really, I seriously question why people claim this is ripping it off)

Spirit Evolution and Burst: Both have the characters fusing with their ___mon

But their is a difference to the transformations; for example, in Frontier, anyone who Spirit evolves becomes the Digimon while in ReBURST anyone who Burst's only gains the abilities of the Pokemon they were combining with.

The stories are totally different (Frontier: 5(6) kids getting stuck in a different world and try to get back home. ReBURST: Boy goes on an adventure to find his father)

The characters are different (Frontier: group of kids. ReBURST: Two teenagers)

The settings are different (Frontier: A different world than the characters live in. ReBURST: Takes place on their own planet)

The villains are different (Frontier: Digimon. ReBURST: Humans (as far as we know)

So, in conclusion, there aren't that many similarities between the stories. They're two different stories that barely resemble the other and comparing them is really stupid...

The whole comparing Burst to Spirit Evolution is wrong too

If anything, you could compare it to Cross Fusion from Megaman NT Warrior

Ah, I see. I hadn't seen any of Digimon Frontier, so I honestly had no idea.

Reminds me of the ridiculous "Digimon is a rip-off of Pokemon!" nonsense people were spewing in the late 1990s.

Well let's see.
1.They both have teenagers.
2.They both invovle animals fighting.
3.They both invovle heart fusion.
4.They both were made in Japan.
5.Oh and they both have older minors on a adventure.
6.They both invovle teenagers.

1. The Frontier kids are not teenagers (The oldest is J.P, who is 12)
2. Digimon aren't really animals..and ReBURST has mostly human versus human battles
3. Heart fusion?
4. I'm not sure that counts
5. That's the same as 1

Can't people just accept that they're two different but similar franchises? I mean, why Digimon and Pokemon anyway? What about Monster Rancher? Mon Colle Knights? Those have similar concepts....

partner battles are a common theme in manga (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Shaman King, Zatch Bell) video games (Pokemon, Jade Cocoon, Monster Rancher)

the whole Pokemon/digimon thing is because they both are monster abbreviations (the suffix -mon). that and americans didn't have much exposure to other things in this genre back in the 90's

Yeah... take something getting popular in America like Pokemon and spend time with that for a while. Then something that might seem similar called Digimon appears. Both series are anime with kids with fighting monsters. Pretty much mainly differences go from there, but what I said in the previous sentence doesn't give people a good first impression of Digimon.

Imagine an action show that mainly stars fish underwater with a character named Jimbob or something. Or heck, any show that stars a talking sponge. It'd be accused of being a ripoff of SpongeBob, whether it is, or not. (Actually, if it's a talking sponge it probably is a rip off.)

Also, it's like those toys Woogles, and those similar toys called Poogles, from that Arthur episode...

Let's keep this thread confined to just Frontier and Reburst, please.

When half your points apply to the usual shonen genre and another to the usual mon-genre, I don't think it really counts as RéBurst/Frontier specific similarities

So far the only thing similar I can tell is that the "Humans turn into ___mon"

The Bursts themselves don't seem to be based off of spirits of legendary Pokémon warriors--the closest one being Zekrom.

This topic should have merged with the "Pokemon/Digimon" Thread back at the Japanese section of the forums. They're two completely different franchise based on the same concept: "Monster Battles". Pokemon is more of a Bug fight while Digimon is based off of cock fights. Not to mention that Pokemon is primarily an RPG, while Digimon are just Tamagotchi on steroids.

Again, this isn't a generic "Pokemon vs. Digimon" thread. This is a very specific "Pocket Monsters Reburst" and "Digimon Frontier" thread.

And yet we're dealing with two different franchises. Eitaroo hits the nail exactly on the head, 2 completely different plots, two completely different scenarios:

• Digital Monsters Fronter have kids with artifacts that help them turn into digimon, thus allow them to save the digital world from being absorbed by a sealed evil in a can.
• Pocket Monsters ReBURST have guys taking monsters, shoving them into crystals, and use their power as an mutant enhancement. The main hero of the manga (in which why does he have a Zekrom is beyond me) only wanted to see his father.

And FYI, it's Digimon Frontier is titled "DIgital Monsters Frontier". And the franchise itself is "Digital Monsters" with Digimon as a shorten version (just like "Pocket Monsters" and "Pokemon"). If you going to call Pokemon by it's full name than it's best that you do the same with Digimon.

But they don't call it "Digital Monsters Frontier", even in Japan. :/

In fact I don't think they ever call the franchise "Digital Monsters" in Japan either...

Actually, they did. But like Pocket Monsters, it was mostly referenced as Digimon. You'll see the whole title on the v-pets that the franchise is BASED on.
