Default New Pokémon Manga to Start in Shonen Sunday?

    Source: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-01-16/new-pokemon-manga-to-run-in-shonen-sunday-mag-in-march

Posters and flyers at the Jisedai World Hobby Fair Winter '11 event have announced on Sunday that a new manga series based on Nintendo's Pokémon games will launch in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in March. The February issue of Tsukuru magazine had said last week that a Pokémon manga will run in Shonen Sunday this spring to expand the market. Pokémon manga have previously run in Shogakukan's Monthly Corocoro Comic magazine and related publications, which are aimed at younger readers than Shonen Sunday.
    Anyone here have more info?

Huh, I haven't heard of anything until now. It'll probably be another adventure series based on BW if it's in Shonen Sunday...

Hmm...this manga will come out at a faster pace than the other manga, since it's in a weekly publication, whereas the other ones are in monthly magazines. That's pretty cool...the current mangas often seem to run into pacing trouble since they have to deal with the monthly schedule. This one will probably be more focused too since, unlike Special, it won't be divided through multiple manga.

Also, for the people who think that Special is a "adult version of Pokemon" (and I've heard people claim this numerous times), I bet this will blow their mind lol.

I've never kept up with the mangas, but I might keep an eye on this since it'll have a weekly release. I can actually see this one becoming pretty popular...hopefully American fan sites will cover it unlike the other manga which are always pushed aside for Special. Bleh.

EDIT: Saw the picture of AAPF Blog...I like the look of the main character, and I can see they used a non-game character like Ash probably so they can keep him as the main character throughout the years as more games come out as opposed to Special which switches back and forth.

Here's a picture of him PLUS other cast members...no one recognizable...

Special ran in four different monthlies at times.

Shonen Sunday is still aimed at the early teens market.
    So.

Shonen Sunday is still aimed at an older audience than CoroCoro though =3 (Which is like, 8-12 right?).

That main character looks like a typical Shonen protagonist xD

To be honest, it doesn't surprise me if the manga will use Black and White; because didn't GameFreak admit that during the development of the games, they had the older audience in mind as well as the younger? Mix the two together, and you get a rough age of 13-15 xD.

And there's the fact that it's the most recent game to be released so far..

Special ran in the "Grade" magazines, which are aimed at children in a specific grade at school. Most Special chapters were printed in the magazines for grade 4, grade 5 and grade 6, with some ending up in those for grade 2 and grade 3 as well.

Shonen Sunday is a Shonen magazine, and thus aimed at the titular "young boys" demographic, though the readership is more in the "young teens" group compared to magazies like Shonen Jump, which aims more for the 9-12 demographic.

I came across this earlier, and while it doesn't exactly say what age group the magazine specifically aims towards, it does show the age of the readers.
    So.

*Target Age Groups More Confusing Than In The West*

Looking at that chart though, Shonen Sunday's main readership is around 13-18. I wonder how Pokémon will survive in that age range.

It could probably go both ways. Pokémon's pretty popular in Japan right now so I think it'll be good. But since this a Pokémon manga, it'll probably last for a couple years, I would like it if it did last long as the two long-running ones. I'll probably buy it if it's good and gets localized in the U.S.

Well, even if it lasts for 2 years, should still be about 10 volumes worth of material, if you go by the average length of some Shonen Sunday series' chapters.

Another new series? And one that'll be weekly instead of monthly?

Great. As if I didn't have enough manga to worry about :P

Hey, the second guy to the (probable) protagonist's right. It looks like an older, scarred version of Lance. And to the other side, a bird in a head dress. And what does the (probable) protagonist have on his head? A headband? Or a hat with ears, but the top hat was destroyed?

I'm looking foreward to this manga.

    "Playing around?" Wrong.
