    Default Scribbles of the Heart

Well I ain't no poet as you may know it, but I thought I might try something a while ago and here it is:

    Silent Night

The winter day that made my breath visible
The coin that I dropped on the frozen road
The coin that I left to be covered by snow
The orphan who had not a piece of bread in 3 days
The orphan who had neither warmth of coat nor love
The orphan who cried from hunger and cold
The tears of the orphan that I had not wanted to see
The orphan who asked me for a coin
The coin that could have changed the life of an orphan
The coin that was covered by the snow
The orphan's corpse covered by snow
The orphan to whom I didn't give enough love
The winter day less cold than my heart
The tears of the orphan, heard never again

*shock* Um, wow. Were you by any chance depressed when you wrote this?

I like the unity you've got going here. The coin, the orphan, the tears.... It highlights the important parts of the poem. That's cool. =D

I almost forgot about this thread. Time to reply! ^^

Kurai: Unity theme is ripped from popular French poets. HUZZAH! I actually wrote this in French before translating it to English ('twas for class after all) so it follows the patterns of some French poet whose name I forget. Check it out if you will (if you see this)

RR: Thanks Satana. Glad you like my poetry. But you read it before anyway :P

Toge: (Glomp-returnage) Muchos gracias, senor. Soy "pleased that you like it" Yo hablo espagnol muy bien, si?

¡Hola! Bien... tú quieres 'Soy alegre lo gusta tú', porque no hay 'like' verbo en Español; tú debes usar el pasivo verbo 'gustar', cual es 'to be pleasing to'. :) Chiste, si?

But you do speak good Spanish! <grin> Mine is crap... I keep forgetting the Direct Object/Indirect Object before/after the verb for rule... <thwaps self>

"Scribbles of the Heart" - it's really just sketches of stuff I do. Haven't done much in a while, but came up with this in a chat today so I'll post it here. More of a prosified poem than anything else...

Perhaps if the snow hadn't fallen or if the wind hadn't blown so harshly our eyes would have met. Shoulders hunched, faces down towards the ground, we scurried along the chilly cobblestone wind tunnels. Now, in the warmth of my room, I wonder who you were; my friends or my enemies? If only I had been able to brave the winter, perhaps I would have known. And then again, maybe not...

Here in my room, sitting here listening to the soft sounds of jazz from the radio and sipping at a cup of coffee, I wonder, would I have found love? The solitary life is miserable, but it is so easy for a coward to live.

When I was out earlier today, a homeless man approached me, with a dirty copy of a newspaper in hand, asking for money. Of course, I ignored him and retreated into the warmth. It never occured to me that he wasn't an element of coldness. He was a candle in the wind, hoping for a spark to rekindle his flame. I wonder now, has his life been snuffed out? What kind of flame was it? In a hearth, a bonfire, a forest fire, another life passed and I knew it not.

And yet I know I will walk out tomorrow and not meet you, whoever you may be, because I'll walk, shoulders hunched, face down, rushing into the warmth because I'm not brave. But whoever you may be, will you be brave enough to stop me, to touch me, to rekindle my flame? This is my silent prayer, a mere whisper against the howling of the wind.
