Thanks for the comments, guys, they're appreciated as always (I'd probably just stop writing altogether if I didn't get any =P)

    Here's another chapter -

    Chapter 45

“Alright,” instructed Blue, “I need Gyarados and Kadabra back, you give me them and I’ll give you these two new guys I found.”
    “Got it,” replied Maxwell.

Maxwell and Blue traded Pokémon when suddenly one of the Poké Balls began shaking wildly, as if something was trying to escape. Blue eyed up Maxwell suspiciously – was he secretly a Rocket operative? Blue tried to keep the Poké Ball shut, but he wasn’t strong enough, the Poké Ball exploded with a glorious white light and out of it came an Alakazam.

“Kadabra evolved!” exclaimed Blue in amazement, “Did you do this, Maxwell?”
“N-no,” stammered Maxwell uncertainly, “I, I don’t know how it happened, it was a Kadabra last time I saw it!”

Blue thought about it for a second, maybe it was something about the Silph Building? Was there something in the air here that made it happen? Blue had heard that certain Pokémon evolved by trading, but why did Kadabra only evolved when returned to Blue and not when given to Maxwell in the first place? Then it hit Blue – giving Kadabra to Maxwell had not been a trade, but when Maxwell returned Kadabra, he traded it for Rhyhorn or Grimer!

“Oh, don’t worry,” said Blue with a smile, “I’ve got it.”

Blue slid the Card Key down the slot in the door and walked through.

“I need you to guard this door, Maxwell,” ordered Blue, “That’s important. I’m gonna go in here and go toe to toe with Boss Rocket himself, so I need you to guard this door and make sure no more Rockets can get in – you got that?”
    “Y-yes,” stammered Maxwell.

Blue knew that Maxwell wasn’t going to stay there, but at least he was out of the way, if he stayed all that would happen would be that Blue would have to go out of his way to rescue him. Blue headed through the now open door and used the Card Key to close it behind him, he wasn’t going to let anyone else get through the Silph Building that easily. Blue took a few steps forwards and found himself face to face with a second door, to which he reacted in the same fashion as the first. Blue turned around to inspect the room he now found himself in and it turned out that his theories about this room were surprisingly astute – stood in front of him was none other than the Scientist who had killed Maxwell’s Machop.

“Hello, Blue,” said the man in his usual chilling voice.

Blue was determined to stand up to him this time, he was going to beat him.

“Hey there,” smirked Blue, trying to act as cocky as possible, unfortunately, it was obvious that he was actually terrified.
“I see you’re using your fake Rocket uniform again,” sneered the Scientist, clearly annoyed, “It’s not very good.”
“I know,” retorted Blue, “Only an idiot would fall for this, right?”

The Scientist hissed in annoyance, Blue knew he had managed to hit a sore spot.

“You can’t run this time,” hissed the Scientist, “You made the mistake of locking the door behind you and even if you hadn’t, I know the teleport system in this building like the back of my hand – I could beat you downstairs with ease!”

Blue didn’t like the sound of the teleport system – was this place going to be like Sabrina’s Gym all over again? Blue turned to the door behind him and held the Card Key in his hand, only to be hit in the back of the head by some large object. Blue turned to see the Scientist’s Weezing, smiling proudly, having properly carried out its master’s order. Blue grabbed a Poké Ball from his belt, but quickly realised that it belonged to his fainted Pidgeot and put it back.

“Your Pokémon are not fully healed!” exclaimed the Scientist with a superior smile, “Well, why didn’t you say so? What kind of gentleman battler would I be if I fought a handicapped opponent?”

The Scientist removed something which looked like a gun from his waist and pointed it at Blue’s belt, he pulled the trigger and Blue felt a huge amount of movement coming from the Poké Balls around his belt.

“What did you do?” demanded Blue in anger.
“I healed your Pokémon,” said the Scientist with a smile, “I don’t need someone else to help me defeat opponents, I’m quite capable of taking out your entire, fully healed team of six with my two Pokémon alone.”

Blue loved and hated this man in equal measure, he was everything Blue wanted to be, but he was using it against Blue. Blue sent out his newly evolved Alakazam, his type advantage and recent evolution made him the obvious choice for taking on the Scientist’s Weezing. The Scientist smiled at this choice – this wasn’t going to be an easy battle.

Blue's Team: Charizard, Pidgeot, Exeggcute, Alakazam, Gyarados
Blue’s Box: Metapod, Beedrill, Meowth, Bellsprout
    Blue's Pokédex: 21 Caught, 77 Seen
    Blue’s Badges: 5

I can't wait for the battle! Is the scientist based off of one you can battle in the games?

    Yes

    Chapter 46

Now that Blue was aware of the Scientist’s Explosion tactic, he was ready for it. There was not much he could do to prepare against it, but hopefully Alakazam would be able to use Teleport and get out of the way of the blast if Blue reacted in time. That said, Blue would have been disappointed if he had had to use this tactic – he admired this man, he would have been utterly disappointed to see him use the same tactic twice, he liked to think he was more original than that. Unfortunately for Blue, he was not disappointed. The Scientist nodded to his Pokémon, who flew over to Alakazam, opened its mouth and poured a huge amount of purple liquid out of its mouth on to Blue’s Pokémon.

“What the hell was that?!” exclaimed Blue.
“Toxic,” stated the Scientist coolly, he didn’t bother to explain how the attack worked.

He didn’t need to either, Blue was fully aware of how Toxic worked – it was a poison that took hold of your Pokémon and became worse and worse, if Blue didn’t take out that Weezing soon, Alakazam would faint. Usually, Alakazam being poisoned was a blessing in disguise, its Synchronise technique meant that its attacker was also poisoned, however Weezing did not succumb to poisoning because, as a Poison type itself, it was immune.

“Psybeam!” ordered Blue, in an effort to take out Weezing as quickly as possible.

Alakazam shook its head in response to this order and carried out a different attack instead – Psychic! The attack caused Weezing some serious damage, but the Pokémon did not faint. It would only take one more hit though – if Blue could take out Weezing with Alakazam, he’d be six-one up on the Scientist. The Scientist nodded to Weezing again. Blue envied the bond the man appeared to have with his Pokémon – he didn’t even need to give it orders for it to know what to do. This time, Weezing opened its mouth and let out a thick screen of smoke – Smoke Screen. The smoke left Alakazam struggling to see and doubled over in pain from the increasing effect of the poison, while Weezing continued to pour more and more smoke into the room, to the point where it was practically impossible to locate Weezing – Blue was sure Alakazam wouldn’t be able to land another Psychic attack, but there was still something he could do.

    “Shock Wave!” snapped Blue.

Alakazam immediately obeyed and Weezing was hit by the homing attack. Unfortunately, Weezing did not sustain much damage from the attack and it wasn’t long before Alakazam was on its knees because it was in so much pain from the poison. The Scientist was smiling, although Blue suspected it was not because Blue’s Pokémon was in pain but because he admired the tactics Blue was using. Blue wanted to love the Scientist, but he couldn’t bring himself to, he knew he was a horrible man, he had killed Maxwell’s Machop. Blue knew this man was ruthless and he knew that even though he had the numbers advantage, that didn’t necessarily mean he was going to win – that much could be deduced from Blue’s last run in with this man. Blue couldn’t allow Alakazam to die, he had to do everything in his power to stop that from happening. Blue dashed through the smog and towards the Scientist. The Scientist heard Blue moving, but, thanks to the Smoke Screens, was unaware of where he was moving. Blue emerged from the smoke and snatched the gun-like device from the Scientist’s hand, pointed it at Alakazam and pulled the trigger. A second later, Blue’s Pokémon stood up as if it had never been touched by poison in the first place.

“So that’s how you want to play it,” sneered the Scientist, with obvious scorn in his voice, “Two can play at that game.”

Blue began to respond, but before he could do so, Weezing shot out of the smoke and whacked Blue in the face, causing him to drop the device. Blue dived down to grab the device, expecting to be blocked by Weezing, but he was not – instead, Weezing threw up a different kind of sludge on to Alakazam, this time not relenting whatsoever. Blue pointed the gun at Alakazam again, but Weezing Tackled him again, knocking the device out of his hands and on to the floor. As Weezing continued to attack Alakazam, with the Psi Pokémon putting up a minimal resistance, the Scientist ran around the battling creatures and dived down to grab the healing device. Blue could tell that that was going to be the key to winning this battle, so he dived down at the same time. In the same moment, however, Weezing stopped pouring Sludge on to Alakazam and hit it with a particularly ferocious Tackle attack, knocking it on to the two Trainers and once again causing the device to be fired backwards, way out of the reach of either of them. Also, the Tackle had the unfortunate effect of knocking out Blue’s Alakazam. Blue removed Alakazam’s Poké Ball from his belt and withdrew the Pokémon, but as soon as he did, the Scientist threw a small black ball at his hand, knocking the Poké Ball across the room.

“What was that?” exclaimed Blue in pain and confusion.
“Just a weight,” replied the Scientist, “I’m just making sure you can’t revive that one.”

Blue grunted distastefully, he was counting on being able to revive his Pokémon at any opportunity. Blue grabbed the next Poké Ball from his belt – Gyarados, it’d be best to get this one out of the way before Electrode made a return to the battle. Gyarados burst forwards out of the Poké Ball and, under Blue’s commands, immediately executed a Bite attack. Weezing did something that Blue didn’t see, but it didn’t matter, it didn’t appear to damage Gyarados whatsoever, so Blue simply ordered another Bite attack, confident that this would be enough to take out Weezing after Alakazam’s efforts. Blue wasn’t wrong either, Weezing fell to the floor unconscious, but the Scientist was smiling, Blue was about to demand answers when suddenly, for no apparent reason, Gyarados fell to the floor in the exact same manner!

I'm mixed on this chapter. I did like how Blue showed improvement but the whole "cheating" thing kinda put me off. Either way, I look forward to reading the rest.

I didn't like the cheating either. Otherwise, it was a good chapter especially the use of Destiny Bond at the end (that's what it was, right?).

Personally, I don't consider it cheating, I consider it resourcefulness! You all use Full Restores and such in the game, right? It's essentially not any different from saving up and stocking up countless Full Restores to take on the Elite Four and other toughies! Give Blue a break - he's not used an item in the story so far! =P

I was trying to indicate that it learnt a new move - that was the best way I could think of doing it.
