Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 28: Brendan Returns
“Hey there, Mike! It’s been a while!” Brendan said.
“How’ve you been?” I asked as I shook his hand.
“Pretty good, I haven’t won many badges, so I don’t think that I’ll be participating in the Ever Grand Conference this year. I guess I’ve just been too busy studying the wildlife,” he said.
“Well, that can be fulfilling too! Anyway, what are you studying here?”
“Well, there have been frequent reports of rainfalls around here, so I came to see what’s up, but there’s no way to get into the Weather Institute. There are people blocking the entrance! They have black suits and red R’s on their chests.”
“You know them?”
“I’ve had a few run-ins with two of their top agents. We’ve got to get in there and stop whatever it is they’re cooking up!”
“What do you mean?”
“They’re criminals who are trying to take over the world! Whatever they’re planning to do at the Weather Institute, it can’t be good! We have to stop them!” I said. I started to go for it, but Brendan blocked my way.
“If they’re criminals, then they could be dangerous! We can’t go risking our lives against them! Plus, there are many more than just whatever two you’re used to battling! We shouldn’t get involved!”
“If we just let them have their way, they’ll get one step closer to world domination! Safety isn’t a consequence when faced with something like that!”
Brendan sighed. “Okay, Mike. If you can beat me, 2-on-2, then I’ll let you pass and take those guys on. As far as I’m concerned, you won’t be going in there unless I know you’re ready.”
“Fine, I accept,” I said reluctantly.
“You’re up, Girafarig!”
I sent out Girafarig, and he sent out a big armored dinosaur-like Pokémon, Lairon. “Use Metal Claw!” Lairon leapt at Girafarig with a Metal Claw bared.
“Girafarig, Psychic!” Girafarig’s Psychic caught Lairon midair and slammed it against the rocks. “Now, Thunder attack!” Girafarig fired a Thunder at Lairon, but Lairon dodged at the last second.
“Lairon, fight fire with fire! Shock Wave!” Lairon sent out a blue static charge that hit Girafarig hard. “Now give it a Take Down!” Lairon charged forward.
“Girafarig, use Earthquake!” Girafarig stomped the ground, and the resulting shockwave knocked Lairon off its feet. “Now finish up with Stomp!” Girafarig used Stomp to nail Lairon’s head. Lairon slumped to the ground, knocked out.
“Lairon, return!” Brendan said as he returned Lairon to its Poke Ball. “You did great. Take a rest,” he said.
“Way to go, Girafarig!”
“Don’t get overconfident! Nuzleaf, I choose you!” He sent out a brown, midget-like Pokémon with a twig and leaf on top of its head.
“Girafarig, use Psybeam!” Girafarig fired a Psybeam at Nuzleaf, but it didn’t move an inch. “Oh, no! Nuzleaf is a Dark-type!” I said.
“That’s right! Use Faint Attack!” Nuzleaf leapt at Girafarig and delivered a powerful kick. “Now hit it with Bullet Seed!”
“Nuzleaf!” the Pokémon said as it fired a Bullet Seed at Girafarig. This attack continued until Girafarig was knocked out. I couldn’t do a thing because Psychic attacks wouldn’t work and Girafarig couldn’t move.
“Girafarig, great job,” I said as I returned it to its Poke Ball. “Okay, Brendan. We’re going to finish this right now! Medicham, showtime!” I sent out Medicham, who did the usual poses.
“Hmm, good choice. However, Nuzleaf and I are ready! Use Fake Out!” Nuzleaf rushed forward to do a move that was supposed to make the opponent flinch.
“Medicham, Detect!” At the last second, Medicham avoided Nuzleaf’s fist. “Now, give it an Ice Punch!” Medicham’s Ice Punch hit Nuzleaf’s legs, stopping it in its tracks.
“Nuzleaf! Get out of there and use Bullet Seed!”
“Nuz…Nuz! Nuz-LEAF!” Nuzleaf couldn’t move, so it used Bullet Seed from where it was.
“Medicham, time to press our luck! Use Hi Jump Kick!”
“Medicham! Medicham! Me-di-CHAM!” Medicham said as it jumped into the air. It managed to avoid the Bullet Seed barrage and land a Hi Jump Kick on Nuzleaf. The ice shattered, and Nuzleaf fell to the ground, unable to continue.
“Way to go, Medicham!” I said as I high-fived with it.
“Great battling, Nuzleaf!” Brendan said as he returned it to its ball. “You’re certainly strong, Mike!”
“Thanks! You’ve gotten better, too! But, why didn’t you use Marshtomp?”
“He’s…having some issues right now. Anyway, a deal’s a deal. I’ll let you pass, even though I think this whole thing’s really dangerous.”
“Trust me, I keep my scars from dangerous situations. And I mean that literally,” I said as I pointed at the Zapdos scar.
“Yeah, HOW did that happen?”
“Long story and I’m short on time. Brendan, I’ll catch you later!” I said as I began to ride to the Weather Institute.
“See you next time! And good luck!” Brendan called back.
I then rode up the hills to the Weather Institute. It was a giant facility with some satellites and a pool out back for some reason. True to form, there were thunderclouds forming up above, so I went inside. Remembering what Brendan told me, I tried to stay out of sight. By the time I reached the main research lab room, I saw that the door was wide open. I looked inside and, to my horror, found my dad, President Stone, and Steven all held hostage by members of Team Rocket. Among them was a man in an orange suit and slicked-back brown hair. Due to his look, and due to the fact that his cat Pokémon, Persian, looked menacing, I knew this could only mean trouble.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 29: Don Giovanni
“All right, Mr. McCarver. Just hold still while my associates relieve you of your access card,” the man in orange said.
“N-No! Let me go! You’ll pay for this!” my dad said, enraged. Unfortunately, they took a card out of his pocket and inserted it into the computer.
“You there! Go out and keep an eye out for the police!” he said. That’s when I got Metang out and backed off out of sight. The minute the grunt walked out, I grabbed him and Metang used Meteor Mash to knock him out cold. I took his uniform which, luckily, fit me, and put it on. Hiding my face underneath the beret, I exited the closet I’d changed from, where I left a tied-up grunt. I made my way into the Institute. I kept hearing some of the other Rockets talking about several things, but one thing that caught my ear was this:
“I hear that Steven guy’s Pokémon are being kept on the top floor! Imagine what we could do with those Pokémon!”
“Hey, isn’t that where we’re keeping that Castform Pokémon?”
I took this into account, and started to make my way to the top floor of the Institute. I let Deoxys out of its ball, gave it instructions, and sent it out a window in private. I then let Espeon out of its ball and explained the plan to it. After I found a leash and put it on Espeon, we finally made it to the top floor, where these two grunts were guarding the door.
“Halt. This area’s restricted.” one of the grunts said.
“I received orders to place this Espeon among the other captured Pokémon. Let me pass,” I replied.
“What’s so special about that Espeon?” the second grunt said.
“It apparently has Pokerus, according to Ashely and Olson.” I said, trying not to grit my teeth.
“Wait, THE Ashley and Olson? Those elites who keep getting beat by some kid?” the first grunt asked.
“That means the kid must be here! If we get his Pokémon, we could rule the world! We’ll go and report this to Master Giovanni! You stand guard!” the second one exclaimed. The grunts then ran downstairs. Uh-oh. My cover’s going to be blown any minute. I need to hurry and get Steven’s Poke Balls back, I thought to myself.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine. We just need to hurry,” I said. We then entered the room, where a little white Pokémon looking like a raindrop on a thunderhead was. That was the Institute’s Castform, and next to it were Steven’s Poke Balls. “Okay, Castform! Come on, I’m going to get you out of here!”
“Cast? Castform!” it said happily. We then made our way out, after I placed Steven’s Poke Balls into my pocket. I was making my way downstairs when all of a sudden, Ashley and Olson popped up right in front of me.
“Hey, you! What do you think you’re doing with the Castform?!” Ashley yelled.
“Master…uh…Giovanni…ordered me to bring it down. If you don’t mind, we’ll be leaving. Come on, Espeon.”
“Wait a minute, there’ve been reports of that runt being here. He has that Espeon with Pokerus! Could you be-?” Olson asked.
“Well, look at me. Do I look like this…runt you talk about?”
The two looked me up and down and left and right. Finally, Ashley said:
“Huh. Nope, guess not. Nice work, OLSON.”
“IT’S OLSON, YOU NINCOM-oh, that’s what you said!”
“Don’t worry about it. As you were,” I said as I walked away. I went back to the main research room, but Giovanni had gone. A couple of grunts were left, along with my dad, President Stone, and Steven.
“What are you doing here? And why do you have that Castform?” one of the grunts asked.
“Master Giovanni ordered me to bring it down.”
“Huh? He…he gave us strict orders to not let that Castform out of that room under any circumstances!”
CRAP. I'm in trouble. “Yes, well, when was that? Ten minutes ago?”
“Actually, he JUST gave me the orders and left,” the second grunt said. “What’s your name?”
“Um…” I said as I pressed a button to close the door. “This conversation was going nowhere anyway! Castform, use Weather Ball! Espeon, use Psychic!” Castform sent out a giant ball of water, which hit the soldiers Espeon was holding in place with Psychic.
“What’s going on here?!” Steven asked, confused.
“Now use Swift, Espeon!” A series of Swift attacks knocked the grunts out. I stuffed them in the closet, then cut the rope holding the others.
“Wait a minute, who are you?!” President Stone asked.
“Heh heh heh!” I said as I took off my hat. “Bet you weren’t expecting this!”
“Mike?! What are you doing here?” Dad said.
“I heard from Brendan Birch that Team Rocket attacked, so I decided to check things out. Steven, six Poke Balls, hold the mayo!”
“Thanks, Mike!” Steven said as he took his Poke Balls back. “Now, let’s go take care of Team Rocket!”
“Too late! Look!” President Stone said. I turned to see Ashley and Olson entering with Haunter and Vileplume at the ready.
“So, that WAS you!!” Ashley exclaimed angrily. “This is all your fault for not recognizing him, Orfice!”
“But I DID recognize him! And the name’s OLSON! You JUST said it!” Olson responded.
“Espeon, Psychic!” I said. Espeon lifted all of them into the air.
“Skarmory! Use Steel Wing!” Steven said as he released his Skarmory. Skarmory’s Steel Wing sent Ashley, Olson, Vileplume, and Haunter out of the Institute and into the sky.
“TEAM ROCKET’S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!!” they said, as per usual.
“Okay! Now, let’s free the researchers!” Steven said.
“Gotcha!” I replied. We then split up, and took down the Rockets. Somewhere along the road, I lost track of Castform, but I just kept focusing on the Rockets. They all ran from the Institute, and our fathers found the researchers and released them. “It’s over, Giovanni. Your plans have been shut down.” I said as I confronted Giovanni near the entrance.
“You really think that, don’t you? You have no idea what I have in store for this region!” he said. He then pulled out Castform, who looked terrified.
“No! Let it go!”
“Foolish child! Let’s see just what you’re made of! Go, Rhydon and Kingler!” He sent out two Pokémon: a Rhydon, a Pokémon who looked like a rhinocerous on feet, and a Kingler, a giant crab-like Pokémon.
“Okay, Espeon! Showtime!”
“Let’s do it, Skarmory!” Steven said as he and Skarmory came up.
“Rhydon! Use Rock Blast on Skarmory!” Rhydon charged forward with a barrage of stones, firing them all at once.
“Skarmory! Dodge and use Steel Wing!” Skarmory dodged the attack, readying a Steel Wing.
“Kingler, Harden!” Kingler hardened its shell, then defended against the attack, protecting Rhydon.
“Espeon, use Psychic!” Espeon’s Psychic lifted Kingler into the air.
“Rhydon, use Horn Attack!” Rhydon used the giant horn on its head to attack Espeon, messing with its Psychic. “Kingler, Bubblebeam!” Kingler fired a stream of bubbles that knocked Skarmory for a loop. Our Pokémon looked down and almost out after these attacks.
“Man! This guy’s tough!” I said.
“Well, he used to be a Gym Leader back in the Kanto region!” Steven said. “I don’t know what we can do against him!”
“I do. Espeon, get ready for THAT attack!”
“Rhydon, use Horn Drill! Kingler, Guillotine!” Rhydon and Kingler jumped at Espeon. Rhydon’s drill was spinning, and Kingler’s giant claw glowed.
“Now, Espeon! Use Giga Impact!”
“ESPEON!” it shouted as it lunged at Giovanni’s Pokémon. With one hit, both Rhydon and Kingler were knocked out.
“What? No! I won’t let it end here!” He quickly returned the Pokémon to their balls and tried to run for it.
“He’s getting away!” Dad said.
“Yeah right,” I replied. Just as Giovanni made it outside, Deoxys flew at him with a Focus Punch, and Giovanni inadvertently released Castform. The Institute researchers came to us and smothered Castform with relief and happiness. I grinned at Giovanni and said, “Like I said, it’s OVER.”
“Hmph. Your skills aren’t bad. But YOU’RE the one who lost today! I got what I needed off that computer, so I’ll be taking my leave now!” he said as a ladder came out of nowhere. I looked, and above was a Team Rocket helicopter. Giovanni and Persian grabbed the ladder, and the chopper zoomed off.
“Rrgh, he got away!” Steven said.
“Don’t worry. We saved the Institution, the researchers, and Castform! So, it all worked out in the end, son!” President Stone said.
Later, my dad had a golden Poke Ball patch stitched onto my hat. “I now present this to the newest member of our organization! Congratulations, son!”
“Thanks, Dad,” I said. Everyone, including my Pokémon, applauded.
“I’ll be sure to let you know when there’s something going down around where you’ll be. Anyway, you should take a breather, Mike!” Dad said.
“No way! It’s on to winning the sixth badge! You guys ready?” I received a positive response from my Pokémon. Having earned a place among the elite trainers in the Pokemon World Enforcers, I felt confidence rushing through me, along with the desire to get to Fortree City and my next Gym battle.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 30: A Feud to Remember
At long last, my crew and I had finally made it to Fortree City. I healed up at the Pokémon Center, then readied to face the Gym Leader. We went to a monument-like building, and I climbed a TON of stairs to get to the top, only to find that the Gym was closed that day. According to what was written on the front, the Gym Leader had to attend the annual Double Battle Tourney. That sounded like a good warm-up, and a chance for the Gym Leader to see our skills, so I decided to backtrack. I went through the many treehouses that made up Fortree City until I reached a series of battlefields. Trainers were gathering to take part in the Tourney, so I got in line. To my surprise, when I got to the front, the guy asked me to give him my Pokémon.
“Wait, I thought this was a double battle tourney?” I asked.
“The real challenge is to work with Pokémon you’ve never worked with before. We’ll hold on to your Pokémon and give you two random Pokémon to battle with in this tourney.”
“Well, okay,” I said as I handed him my Pokémon.
I then received two Poke Balls, and had no way of knowing which Pokémon I was using until I would battle. I was directed to a battlefield where this man with a brown suit, brown hat, and cane was waiting. The judge told us to begin, so he threw out his Pokeballs. Out came a Beautifly, a butterfly-like Pokémon, and a Dustox, a Pokémon that looked like a purple moth. “Okay. HERE WE GO!” I said as I threw out the Poke Balls. Out of one came a Seviper, a dark snake-like Pokémon with a blue mark on its chest. Out of the other came a Zangoose, a white mongoose-like Pokémon with a red mark on its chest. Onlookers gasped when they came out together, and I began to wonder why. I perished the thought as soon as I saw my Pokémon glaring at each other.
“Young man, I don’t think you’ll last in this tourney with THOSE two!” my opponent said.
“I doubt that! Zangoose, hit Dustox with a Crush Claw!” To my surprise, Zangoose hit Seviper with a sharp, glowing claw. “WHAT?! Zangoose, knock it off! Seviper, hit Beautifly with Poison Tail!” Just like Zangoose, Seviper ignored me. Seviper hit Zangoose with a purple, glowing tail. “What the heck?!”
“See? Okay, guys! Tackle them both!” Beautifly and Dustox flew at Zangoose and Seviper. As soon as the attacks landed, Zangoose used Crush Claw to knock out Dustox and Seviper used Poison Tail to knock out Beautifly. “What the heck?!”
“Uh, Dustox and Beautifly are unable to battle! Zangoose and Seviper win, and victory goes to Mike!” the judge said, flabbergasted.
“Way to go, guys! You really put the…hurt…on…” I slowed to a stop because Zangoose and Seviper were fighting again. I had no choice but to return them to their Poke Balls. “This will not end well,” I sighed. This continued for a while, with Zangoose and Seviper inadvertently winning their battles while still fighting with each other. We reached the final round, where I faced a guy who used a Ludicolo, a Pokémon that looked like a giant piñata with a lilypad-like sombrero, and Shiftry, the final evolved form of Seedot which was brown with long white hair and leaves for hands. Zangoose and Seviper immediately began to fight with each other, just after the judge said to begin.
“Ludicolo, use Hydro Pump! Shiftry, use Bullet Seed!” Ludicolo fired a Hydro Pump at Seviper, while Shiftry launched a Bullet Seed barrage at Zangoose.
“Seviper, dodge! Zangoose, use Dig!” Zangoose managed to escape using Dig, but Seviper couldn’t get out of the way in time, and got nailed by the Hydro Pump. “Seviper, fight back! Use Sludge Bomb!”
“Seviper!” it said as it launched a Sludge Bomb out of its mouth. Before the attack could hit Ludicolo, I saw Shiftry flying in front. Zangoose had resurfaced and shoved Shiftry into the attack, causing major damage.
“I don’t know what happened, but I’ll take it! Great job!” I said.
“Zang!” the Pokémon responded happily.
“Goose, Zangoose! Zang!”
“Guys, must we discuss this every OTHER second?!”
“Shiftry, use Extrasensory!” Shiftry leapt at Zangoose and used a multicolored beam to hold Zangoose in place, then knocked it down on the ground.
“Seviper! Use Flamethrower!” Seviper nailed Zangoose with a Flamethrower. “NO! Hit SHIFTRY with Flamethrower!” Seviper, once again, used Flamethrower on Zangoose. “GAWD, It’s like talking to someone with ADD!”
“NEVER MIND WHAT IT MEANS!!!” It was then that Zangoose got up and nailed Seviper with a Crush Claw. The two got back into fighting each other.
“This is getting boring,” the opponent said. “Ludicolo, use Blizzard!” Ludicolo fired a Blizzard attack at both Zangoose and Seviper. Zangoose managed to escape again, but Seviper was frozen solid.
“Oh no! If I don’t get Seviper out of there soon, it’ll be disqualified! But if I DO get it out, Zangoose will go crazy again!...wait, that’s it! Zangoose! Attack Seviper with Crush Claw!”
“Zang!” the Pokémon responded, as if to say “I thought you’d never ask!” It then slashed at the ice with Crush Claw, breaking it. Seviper fell to the ground, but looked up at Zangoose, confused.
“Shiftry! Solarbeam!” Shiftry charged a Solarbeam and then fired it at Zangoose.
“Zangoose! Use Ice Beam to counter it!” Zangoose fired an Ice Beam, but the Solarbeam overpowered it. Just as Zangoose was about to be hit, Seviper knocked Zangoose away with its tail and got hit by the Solarbeam. “NO! SEVIPER, GET UP!” Seviper reeled, but slowly got to its feet. Er, body. Anyway, Zangoose looked up at Seviper, confused.
The two looked at each other, with interesting looks on their faces. They then nodded to each other, and turned back to Shiftry and Ludicolo.
“I can’t believe it! They’re…working together?!” I said, astonished.
“That’s good, but it looks like they’re a little late to the party! Ludicolo, use Metronome!”
“Colo! Ludicolo Ludicolo Ludicolo Ludicolo…” it said as it waved its index fingers in the air back and forth. Finally they glowed, and Ludicolo, out of nowhere, glowed with a yellow light.
“OH NO! IT’S USING EXPLOSION! SHIFTRY, RUN AWAY!” the opponent said.
“Zangoose, Dig! Seviper, follow Zangoose!” The two made their way down into the ground and Shiftry into the trees as Ludicolo exploded. After the attack, the judge declared Ludicolo unable to battle. “Okay! Seviper, Flamethrower! Zangoose, Ice Beam!” The two jumped up from the ground on opposite sides of Shiftry and launched their attacks, inevitably knocking it out.
“Shiftry is unable to battle! Zangoose and Seviper are the winners, and our Tourney Champion is Mike from Littleroot Town!”
“Way to go, you guys!” I shouted.
After that, the two turned to each other. Zangoose slowly held out its paw, and Seviper moved its tail into it, at which point they shook. I stood there in awe, thinking, wow, did I just end their feud? That’s awesome! It was then that a girl came up to us with three golden medals. She was about seven years older than me, and she had some kind of gray aviator clothing, with her helmet sporting goggles and feathers.
“That was an amazing display, Mike! I’m also impressed how you managed the impossible: making those two get along!” she said.
“Thank you very much!” I said as she put the medal on me. Zangoose and Seviper made similar remarks as the girl put medals on them.
“It’s not often that we get visitors who win this competition! Tell me, what brings you to our town?”
“Well, I came here for a Gym Battle. Do you know the Gym Leader?”
“Of course I do! She’s me!”
“I’m Winona, the leader here in Fortree City! And come tomorrow, we will accept your challenge!”
“All right! And I don’t plan on leaving without a badge! Wish me luck, guys!”
All practiced and fired up, I couldn’t wait for the next day, when I’d get to battle Winona for my sixth badge. With Zangoose and Seviper’s support, I just knew that we wouldn’t fail.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 31: Birds of a Feather Badge
I woke up the next morning in the Pokémon Center, pumped for my next Gym Battle. While my Pokémon and I were eating breakfast, I was contemplating what Winona would possibly use against me. First of all, I didn’t even know what TYPE of Pokémon she used, so I needed to be prepared for anything. Let’s see…if anything, it’s the Gym Leader’s attributes that define what Pokémon he or she uses. Let’s see…Roxanne and Rock Types, Brawly and Fighting Types, Wattson and-wait, that’s it. It’s their name! So, Winona. What can I define from her name? Hmm…well, it’s not much of a clue, so next attribute. She had on aviator-like clothing, but that’s about it. Hmm…Wait. WAIT! I then got on the phone and called Professor Birch.
Later that day, I finally made my way up the long stairs to where the Gym waited. I’d say the field was a BIG indication of what kind of Pokémon Winona would use. Still, I felt that I couldn’t take any chances, so I knew I had to start with Espeon. Anyway, Winona was waiting for me at the top with her assistant Zachary.
“Well, Mike? You ready to do this?” she asked with a confident look.
“You bet! I’ve been ready for weeks now!” I replied with an overconfident look.
We then took our places; her on the left, and me on the right. There were two columns on either side of the battlefield, and a platform at the base of each. We took our places in them, then the railing closed and, to my surprise, we were lifted above the field. Zachary took the flags and said, “This official battle between Winona, Leader of the Fortree Gym, and Mike, the challenger from Littleroot Town, will now begin! Each trainer will be allotted the use of three Pokémon! Only the challenger may make substitutions, and battle will end when all three of either Trainer’s Pokémon are unable to continue! Begin!”
“Let’s go, Altaria!”
“Espeon! You’re up!”
She sent out a birdlike Pokémon with cottonlike wings to face Espeon.
“Okay, Altaria! Use Dragonbreath!” Altaria shot out a Dragonbreath at Espeon.
“Use Confusion!” Espeon’s Confusion sent the attack right back, but Altaria dodged at the last second.
“Altaria! Use Steel Wing!” Altaria rushed as Espeon with a Steel Wing.
“Espeon! Psychic!” Espeon’s Psychic held Altaria in the air, disabling it from moving.
“Nice try, but I was expecting that! Use Dragonbreath!” Amidst the Psychic, Altaria managed to fired Dragonbreath at Espeon, knocking it back into a totem pole on the field.
“Espeon! You okay?”
“Good! Okay, use Shadow Ball!” Espeon fired a Shadow Ball at Altaria.
“Knock it back with Steel Wing!” Altaria’s Steel Wing sent it back with more force.
“Why does this seem familiar? Espeon, Iron Tail!” Espeon’s Iron Tail knocked it back. This continued for a while until Espeon finally faltered and got hit by the Shadow Ball. “NO! ESPEON!”
“Altaria! Finish it with Peck attack!” Altaria dove in, beak at the ready.
“Espeon! Quick Attack to each of the totems!” Espeon dodged and raced around the totem poles until it hit Altaria with a Quick Attack.
“Nice move! Didn’t see that one coming! But still, we’re not done! Altaria! Full power Steel Wing!”
“Espeon! Full power Giga Impact!”
The two rushed at each other with their attacks, but the collision caused a humongous explosion. When the smoke cleared, they were both unconscious.
“Altaria and Espeon! Both Pokémon are unable to battle!” Zachary said.
“Espeon! Return!” I said, returning Espeon to its Poke Ball. “You did great, pal. Take a good rest.”
“We will soar to victory and avenge you, Altaria!” Winona said to her Poke Ball. “Now then! Go, Pelipper!”
“Come on out, Girafarig!” She sent out a Pelipper, and I sent out Girafarig. I can’t risk using Girafarig’s trump card just yet. I need to buy some time with…“Psybeam!” Girafarig fired out a Psybeam, which distracted Pelipper. “Now use Stomp!” Girafarig jumped and nailed Pelipper with its hoof.
“Pelipper, use Hydro Pump!” Pelipper retaliated with Hydro Pump. It had let Girafarig get close for maximum damage.
“Okay, try Psybeam again!” Girafarig fired a Psybeam at Pelipper.
“Use Fly to dodge! Then use Steel Wing!” Pelipper flew around, dodging multiple Psybeams, then swooped down and nailed Girafarig with a Steel Wing.
“Girafarig! Get up!” I shouted. Girafarig slowly but surely got to its feet.
“Okay, use Stockpile!” Pelipper glowed with a light. “Now use Spit Up!” Pelipper shot a white ball out of its mouth that exploded on contact with Girafarig. Still, Girafarig managed to get to its feet.
“Girafarig! Use Psybeam again!” Girafarig used Psybeam to hit Pelipper.
“Stockpile times three!” Pelipper glowed three times. I knew then and there what I had to do.
“Girafarig, get ready…”
“Now, finish it with Spit Up!”
“Girafarig! Psychic!” Girafarig used Psychic to hold Pelipper in place, preventing it from using Spit Up. Therefore, the attack exploded in its mouth. “Now hit it with Thunder!” Girafarig fired Thunder at a dazed Pelipper. The attack did a ton of damage, considering Pelipper was both a Water and Flying type. However, Pelipper still stayed in the air. “But how?!”
“Now, Pelipper! Hydro Pump!”
“Mirror Coat, Girafarig!”
Girafarig took some damage from Hydro Pump, but Pelipper received it also. Just as Girafarig started to buckle, Pelipper fell onto one of the totems, passed out.
“Pelipper is unable to battle! Girafarig is the winner!” Zachary said, raising the green flag.
“All right! You sure wasted ‘em, Girafarig!”
“Rig, Riiig!” Girafarig responded happily but weakly.
“You were excellent, Pelipper. Take a good rest,” Winona said. “I’m really impressed, Mike. I didn’t expect that Thunder attack! But it won’t help you here! Go, Swellow!” She sent out another birdlike Pokémon, this one looking like a turquoise and orange swallow.
“Okay, we’re just going to have to try! Girafarig, use Thunder!” Girafarig fired another Thunder.
“Counter that with Hyper Beam!” Swellow’s Hyper Beam cancelled out the attack. “Now use Aerial Ace!” Swellow flew around in a loop, disappeared, then struck Girafarig from behind.
“Girafarig, no!” I said. Girafarig tried to get up, but passed out on the ground.
“Girafarig is unable to battle! Swellow is the winner!” Zachary said.
“Great job, my friend!” Winona called out.
“You were awesome, Girafarig. Rest up,” I said after returning Girafarig to its Poke Ball. “Not bad, Winona! Your Flying Pokémon are certainly at one with the sky!”
“We always strive to soar higher and higher each day. To set a bar and then rise above it! We’ve become at one with the sky spirits, and we flap our wings ever higher! That’s how a true Trainer must live! If your Pokémon fall just like that, you’re going to have a tough time soaring to Ever Grande!”
“Falling is an important step! Through it, we learn how to rise above defeat and work our way back up, without fear of falling again! And in order to make it to the top, we’re going to have to clip your wings, Winona!” I said as I took out another Poke Ball.
“Nice words, Mike! Let’s see this Pokémon that’ll rise above the odds!”
“Is THIS what you had in mind?! ZAPDOS, SHOWTIME!!” I said as I threw the Poke Ball. Out came Zapdos, who looped around, ready to battle.
“I…I can’t…I don’t…this is…” Winona stammered. It was as this time that our pillars were being raised high into the air.
“Okay, Zapdos! You ready for our first battle together?” I called out.
“DOS!” the Pokémon replied.
“Okay! Start out with Drill Peck!” Zapdos delivered a Drill Peck right at Swellow’s chest.
“Uh, Swellow! Use Hyper Beam!” Swellow fired out a Hyper Beam.
“Zapdos, use Detect!” Zapdos narrowly dodged the attack. “Now use Thunderbolt!” Zapdos fired a Thunderbolt, zapping Swellow.
“Swellow, use Aerial Ace!” Swellow used Aerial Ace to damage Zapdos, knocking it down a ways.
“Uh-oh, Zapdos must not be used to this. I’ll just have to keep it where it is! Zapdos, use Thunderbolt!”
“Swellow, use Quick Attack to dodge!” Zapdos’ Thunderbolt missed the mark, as Swellow moved around too quickly. “Now use Hyper Beam!” Swellow used Hyper Beam which hit its mark this time, but Zapdos seemed fine.
“Okay! Thunderbolt again!” Zapdos’ Thunderbolt hit its target, causing Swellow to falter a little. “I see! After Hyper Beam, Swellow stalls for a little while! Use Thunderbolt one more time!”
“Swellow! Another Quick Attack!” Swellow dodged again with Quick Attack.
It’s no use! Swellow is just too fast! With that Quick Attack, it can be anywhere!...whoa, whoa, whoa. Anywhere! So, we’ll have to hit EVERYWHERE! “Zapdos! Rain Dance!”
“DOOOOS!” Zapdos cried as it sent a blue orb into the air. At once, it began to rain. “Now, try a Thunderbolt!”
“Give it up! Swellow can dodge easily! Quick Attack!” Swellow dodged with Quick Attack.
“Now! Use Thunder!” Zapdos fired a Thunder, which spread over the whole area. Swellow was caught in the Thunder mid-Quick Attack, and it fell to the ground. It didn’t take long for it to get back on its talons, though.
“Swellow! Try Aerial Ace!” Swellow flew at Zapdos with an Aerial Ace, disappearing in the process.
“Invisibility won’t keep you from the weather! Finish it with Thunder!” Zapdos fired a Thunder, which spread out and hit Swellow, who was right behind Zapdos. Swellow fell to the ground, and this time, it didn’t get up.
“Oh no! Swellow!”
“Swellow is unable to battle! Zapdos is the winner, and victory goes to Mike from Littleroot Town!” Zachary said.
“Way to go, Zapdos! You were awesome!” I said as the platforms were lowered to the ground.
“Swellow, return!” Winona called as Swellow was called back to its Poke Ball. “I’m very proud of you, Swellow. Take a good rest!” She then came over to me and Zapdos. “Mike, that was excellent! You and Zapdos certainly soared above my expectations! I was wrong; I think you’re more than ready for Ever Grande! And to send you flying on your way there, here is the Feather Badge, proof of your victory here at the Fortree Gym!” she said as she handed me a turquoise badge in the shape of a curving feather.
“Thank you very much, Winona! All right! WE WON A FEATHER BADGE!”
“DOS!” Zapdos added.
“Say, how would the both of you like to fly with us?” Winona said.
“Uh, fly?” I said, puzzled.
Later that day, Espeon and I were on Zapdos’ back, and we were flying next to Winona and her Skarmory. We had trouble getting the hang of flying at first, but with Winona’s encouragement, we somehow made it work. That evening, after saying our goodbyes, we headed back to the Pokémon Center, where I asked Zapdos if it wanted to stay with me or go back to Professor Birch. Zapdos seemed to want the latter, so I thanked it and sent it back. So, with a new badge in my grasp, we were getting closer and closer to the Hoenn League Championship. I didn’t know everything that lay ahead, but I was positive that from then on out, the sky was the limit.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 32: Searching Out Registeel
Having won the Feather Badge the previous day, I scouted out the next Gym with my Pokenav. It was in Mossdeep City, and since that was across the sea, I needed to get on a ferry, so my next destination was Lilycove City. As soon as I left Fortree City, I made my way south across a series of bridges. I managed to capture a Zangoose AND a Seviper from two packs that were fighting with each other. When I made it to the southern part of the road, I found a gigantic pyramid there. I thought it was just a mirage, but it was, in fact, a pyramid. I ran over to see what it specifically was, but couldn’t find an entrance. All I found was a brown-haired man dressed in a green hiking outfit, and he was standing outside some rock formations that resembled the ones I found in the desert. With the man was an older man dressed in exploration clothing as well as a familiar face. I called out, “Hey, Nikki! Long time no see!”
All three looked in my direction, and then Nikki ran over, saying, “Hey, Mike! Good to see you!” After high-fiving, she brought me over and said, “Grandpa, This is Mike! He’s that trainer I told you about!”
“Ah! The one who helped you rescue your Shedinja? Well, thank you for that, young man! The name’s Dusty!”
“And my name is Brandon. I’m the head of the Battle Pyramid,” he said as he shook my hand.
“Uh, Battle who?”
“No, no. Battle Pyramid. You see, my facility is one of seven facilities in the Kanto Battle Frontier. In addition to Gym Leaders, there are Frontier Brains in charge of the facilities and we give out Symbols to the winners. Win the other six, and you will be able to find my Battle Pyramid, and if you beat me, you’ll have conquered the Battle Frontier.”
“Wow, that sounds like quite the endeavor. So, if your facility is based around Kanto, what are you doing here in Hoenn?”
“I came here to see these ruins and to find some way to get inside them. I’ve heard that something I’m after lies inside, so I’ve enlisted Dusty here to help me get inside.”
“Which brings me to my next plan! Now, Brandon! What if-” Dusty said as he took Brandon off. I then went back over to Nikki.
“Well, your grandpa seems quite enthusiastic about this! Of course, I might be too if I were getting the chance to help a trainer like that!” I said.
“Glad HE’S enthusiastic,” Nikki said, frustrated. “I’ve been trying to tell my grandpa about alternate solutions to getting through to the ruins inside the center, but he won’t listen to me! He says ‘oh, just leave this to the experts.’ I just wish he would get rid of his overinflated ego and listen for once!”
“Heh, tell me about it. If my mom had listened to me, I would’ve been on this adventure about five years ago. The thing is, relationships between you and your family don’t work just one way. They only want you to be safe because they love you. But you’ve got to listen to them so that you can establish that bond of love and respect. Just give your grandpa some time and have faith, okay?”
“Okay, I’ll try. Anyway, I was thinking about this symbol I found on the side of one of the adjacent rocks. It was a bunch of dots in rows, and I couldn’t translate it, and I didn’t feel like telling Grandpa…”
“Okay, let’s check it out!” She led me to one of the six boulders surrounding the main one, and pointed at an engraving. It was a long line of Braille, to my understanding. “Hmm, I see…URK!” I felt my cheek burning.
“Hey, what IS that?!” she asked, pointing to the triple scars.
“That’s not important right now. Anyway…wait, why? What’s wrong with it?”
“Glowing? That’s weird. But what’s even weirder is that I can read this text all of a sudden! Let’s see…Thee who would seek the inner light must prove to me their strength and might. Then will appear my power’s wall, but only to a fusion will it fall.”
“That’s what it says? Well, I think I know just how to get inside! C’mon!” She explained the plan to me while we raced over to the front of the middle boulder. Dusty was trying to have his Sandslash use Rock Smash to break down the wall, but with no success.
Brandon sighed and said, “Maybe there’s another way to do this.”
“There is!” Nikki said. “Mike, if you please!”
“With pleasure!” I replied. “Metang, it’s showtime!” Metang came out of its Poke Ball. “Okay, Metang! Take Down!”
“Metang! ME-TANG!” it said as it charged into the boulder with a Take Down. Nothing happened for a little bit after it hit, but then a large chunk of the rock suddenly broke off and became dust. What was left looked like a thick wall of steel.
“Great job, Metang! Return!” I said as I brought it back into its Poke Ball.
“Incredible! That’s some power your Metang has, Mike!” Brandon said.
“Indeed! Now, the question is, how are we going to get through this steel wall?”
“…then will appear my power’s wall, but only to a fusion will it fall…” Nikki said.
“A fusion? Nikki, where’d you come up with that little bit?” Dusty asked.
“She found an indentation on the side of one of the adjacent boulders, and it formed a message! It’s thanks to your granddaughter that we knew what to do!” I said. As soon as Dusty went over to Nikki to congratulate her, I winked at her. She looked surprised, but then she looked as though she got it, grinned, and then winked back.
“Well done, granddaughter! Well done! I’m sure glad I brought you along! Now, do you have an idea for how to get through that steel wall?”
“I’m thinking that over…”
While they thought, Brandon came over to me. “Well, you certainly have a knack for stretching the truth, Mike. Just like your father.”
“…NO. WAY.” I said.
“That’s right! I’m involved as well!” he said as he showed me his patch.
“I’VE GOT IT!” Nikki said excitedly. “We need to use a fusion of fire and water! It’ll weaken the steel to the point where we can smash right through it!”
“Yeah! Great plan! Well, let’s get to it! GOLDUCK, I CHOOSE YOU!” I said.
“COMBUSKEN, COME ON OUT!” Nikki said.
“SOLROCK, I NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!” Brandon said.
I brought out Golduck, Nikki brought out Combusken, a Young Fowl Pokémon, and Brandon brought out a Pokémon that looked like a sun-shaped meteorite, Solrock.
“Combusken, use Fire Spin!” Combusken fired a tornado of fire at the wall, causing a section of it to overheat.
“Solrock! You use Fire Spin as well!” Solrock and Combusken fired twin Fire Spins.
“Golduck, Hydro Pump!” Golduck fired a Hydro Pump to cool it down. This repeated for a while until the area looked very brown.
“Okay, now for our strike! Combusken, use Quick Attack!” Combusken leapt at the wall and struck it with Quick Attack.
“Solrock! Tackle attack!” Solrock struck the wall with a Tackle.
“Golduck! Let’s wrap this up with Aqua Jet!” Golduck charged forward with Aqua Jet, and with the strike, it broke through the wall. “Way to go, everyone!” Everyone started to celebrate (Brandon just stood there and smiled). Just then, the wall dissipated.
“Wha-what happened?!” Dusty asked, bewildered.
“It seems as though we fulfilled the requirements of that indentation, so the wall was no longer necessary,” Brandon said. “Let’s check it out to see if the thing I’m looking for is in here!”
We went inside to find more boulder formations with Braille written on them. As far as I could tell, they documented the travels of three legendary titan Pokémon, Regirock, Registeel, and Regice.
“Well, I can’t seem to find what I was looking for here. Still, it did help me determine SOMETHING about it.” Brandon said.
“No, there’s something here all right,” I said, feeling my scars activating again. “It’s over there, at the back wall.”
“What? I can’t see anything,” Nikki responded.
“What? But it’s glowing bright yellow! Let me see,” I said as I went through a yellow opening. In the next room, it was pitch black.
“Mike! Where’d you go, lad?!” Dusty called.
“We can’t see you! You passed through the wall!” Brandon responded.
“Wh…what? WHAT?! But…there was no wall! Just a yellow opening!”
“Seems to me that the yellow aura did a lot more to you than just protect you from electrocution!” Deoxys said. “The cavern glowed yellow and your scar lit up at the same time? You could only read Braille when the scar lit up? Let’s face it, you’re no ordinary individual anymore, Mike!”
“…could it…be possible? Wow…” I said, pondering just what that yellow aura did. “Hey guys, see if you can pass through as well!” Next thing I knew, Nikki and Dusty came flying through the wall and landed in a heap at my feet. Brandon just walked in casually, keeping his usual stature, but I could tell he was very much surprised.
“No way! Mike, you…what ARE you?” Nikki asked.
“I have no idea, believe it or not! Let’s just-” I cut off my sentence as lights came out of nowhere. In the middle of the room was a giant humanoid Pokémon with a metallic coating and seven red dots arranged in a hexagon for a face.
“This is what I’ve been looking for! The Pokémon Registeel!” Brandon said, breaking his stature.
“What?! Registeel?! That’s one of the Pokémon depicted in the Braille markings!” I said, surprised.
“Registeel! I’ve come to challenge you and make you mine!” Brandon said, brimming with confidence. “NOW, REGIROCK! I NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!” Brandon said as he threw out a Poke Ball.
“WHAT THE-?!” I said, even more surprised. Out of the Pokémon came a giant boulder-shaped humanoid Pokémon, Regirock. On its face were seven brown circles forming an H.
“Regirock, let’s finish this quick! Rock Slide!”
“Re-r-r-re, Regirock!” it responded, sending a ton of rocks at Registeel. Registeel used Metal Claw to knock them out of the way. One came flying at Nikki, but Dusty got her out of the way at the last minute.
“Regirock! Superpower!” Regirock, through the confusion, rushed at Registeel and nailed it hard with a glowing fist, causing Registeel to fall into a wall, since it was weak against Fighting-Type moves. “Poke Ball, go!” Brandon threw a Poke Ball and Registeel went inside, and after a time of wiggling around, the ball clicked. Brandon picked it up and said, “Excellent! I caught Registeel! Great work, Regirock!”
“Re-r-r-re, Regirock!” Regirock responded.
“I couldn’t have done it without you all, too! Thank you very much!” he said to us.
Later on, we all met up outside the Battle Pyramid to go our separate ways.
“Thanks for the help in uncovering this archeological discovery, young man! You’re certainly something!” Dusty said to me.
“No, no! Your granddaughter is the one you should thank!” I said.
“Well, it’s all thanks to your teachings, Grandpa! I guess I need to listen to you a little more! I know I’ll become a Pokémon archaeologist who’ll make you proud!” Nikki said.
“I’m already proud, dear,” Dusty replied. “It’s time we left! Farewell!” he said as he started to go off.
“Mike, thank you for all your help,” Nikki said to me. “Thanks to you, I think Grandpa and I will be getting closer and closer! One day, I’ll become a great archaeologist like him! But don’t think I won’t spare time for a battle!”
“I look forward to it, Nikki. I hope we get to meet again soon!” I said.
“That’d be great! And thanks again!” she said as we shook hands. She then ran off to follow Dusty.
“Well well, Mike. I’m seeing more and more of your father in you at every turn,” Brandon said, chuckling.
“I don’t know what you mean,” I said. Brandon then laughed out loud.
“Well, you’re something special yourself! See you around, kid!” he said. He then went back into the Battle Pyramid, and it adopted choppers, lifted into the air, and flew off. I waved to it, wondering what Brandon meant by that little comment.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 33: Don’t Have All Octillerys in the Water?
Making my way northeast to Lilycove City, I decided to make a little stop off in the Safari Zone for some catching. The Safari Zone was a place where trainers could go to catch all kinds of wild Pokémon imported from the Kanto and Johto regions, so I had to check it out. As far as I remember, the rules were that you were given thirty Safari Balls and a time limit, but you couldn’t use your Pokémon to capture them. However, any Pokémon you catch, you keep, which appealed to me. When I went in, there were a ton of trainers gathered at the front with worried looks on their faces. I went to the Warden and asked him what was wrong.
“Wait…” he said as he eyed my hat. “I’m so glad you’re here! They sent you, didn’t they?!”
“No, they, the Pokémon World Enforcers! That patch…!” he said, pointing at my hat.
“Oh! You know about it? But they didn’t exactly send me.”
“Please, you’ve got to help me! Some people have been stealing Pokémon out of the Water Pokémon habitat!”
“I’ve had to close off the Safari Zone because of this occurrence! The PWE said that they would send one of their members to help out, so I assume they sent you?!”
“Well, they didn’t exactly send me…but whatever! I’ll help you out, regardless!”
“Thank you so much, young man! This way, please!”
He led me into the Safari Zone, which almost resembled a jungle. There were wild Girafarig, Rhyhorn, and other Pokémon around. I went off on my own, near the giant lake in the area, because the Warden told me that it was the Water Pokémon habitat. He also told me that the most Pokémon missing were octopus-like Pokémon, Octillery. I went over to the lake and called out Espeon, Golduck, and Deoxys.
“Golduck, see if you can find out what’s in the lake!”
“Golduck!” it said, then jumped in. A few seconds later, it resurfaced saying, “Golduck! Duck Golduck!”
“What’s wrong, Golduck?”
“It’s saying that there are a ton of water Pokémon trapped in a container underneath the water!” Deoxys translated.
“Okay, then! Espeon and Deoxys, use Psychic to lift the water into the air! Golduck, jump in and wait!”
“I don’t know what you’re planning, but hell, why not?”
And so the two used Psychic to lift all the water into the air. Golduck was at the lake bottom next to the cage.
“Okay, Golduck! Use Hyper Beam to break that container!” Golduck fired a Hyper Beam that broke the container and set all the water Pokémon free. They all jumped out, then Espeon and Deoxys lowered the water back in, and the water Pokémon jumped back in. “Way to go, you guys! That didn’t tire you out too much, did it?”
“Nope, it was nothing!”
“Okay, then let’s keep moving! All the Pokémon the Warden described are back, EXCEPT for the Octillery! We have to find them!”
“Duck, Golduck!” Golduck said all of a sudden.
“What is it, Golduck?” I asked.
“It said that it’ll stay here and keep the Water Pokémon out of trouble until we get back!” Deoxys said.
“Okay, good luck and be careful, Golduck!” I said. Espeon, Deoxys and I then went off in search of the Octillery. It was a long search around the general area, but we managed to find only one. “Hey, buddy! Think you can tell me where your friends are?”
“It said no.”
“Okay, why not?”
“It says that it and its friends have been playing hide-and-seek all day.” Deoxys said as I fell to the ground.
“...Okay, so you're IT. Would you like us to help you find them?” I asked.
“Tang!” Octillery said happily. It then led us along a path on the mainland. As we went along, we found about a dozen of its friends.
“Let’s see, where would Octillery hide?” I said to myself.
“I can give you a clue!” a familiar voice said.
“Oh, here we go again!” I said. I looked up to see Ashely and Olson laughing, and Golem was hauling a large cage of Octillery. The Octillery who had come with me started crying out to its friends, and they cried out back. “All right, let them go!”
“Sorry, but no can do! We have a quota to meet!” Ashley replied.
“Anyway, time for the icing on the cake: your Espeon!” Olson said.
“You guys aren’t very ambitious, are you? You’re always after just ONE Pokémon!” I said.
“Shut up! Go, Anorith!” Ashley said. She sent out a Pokémon that looked like a rock mixed with a bug, that had two fake red eyes and two glass eyes on each side of its head.
“Go, Lileep!” Olson added. He sent out a Pokémon that looked like a plant with two sections, the second being a base with four roots.
“What in the-?! When did you get those Pokémon?!” I asked, surprised to see two ancient Pokémon in this day and age.
“From you! In that sand tower, those two fossils turned out to be these things! Anyway, use Water Gun!” Anorith fired a Water gun, knocking Espeon back a bit.
“Lileep, use Constrict!” Lileep wrapped its tentacles around Espeon.
“Deoxys, use Focus Punch!” Deoxys flew at Lileep with a Focus Punch at the ready.
“Lileep, jump out of the way!” Lileep released Espeon and moved, so Espeon was caught in the attack.
“No! Espeon, use Psychic!” Espeon’s Psychic grabbed Lileep.
“Anorith, strike back with Metal Claw!” Anorith’s Metal Claw nailed Espeon and loosened its grip on Lileep.
“Rrgh, we have to attack together! Both of you use Shadow Ball!” Espeon and Deoxys used Shadow Ball to damage both opponents at once, sending them into the cage. Upon impact, the cage opened and the Octillery jumped out and joined us.
“Oh, no! Can’t you control that thing any better, Orson?!”
“Maybe I could! And maybe YOU could call me OLSON!”
“Oc-TANG!” the Octillery said as they used Octazooka, an ink-like bomb attack, at Team Rocket. Team Rocket kept trying to dodge, but kept getting sprayed.
“Okay, Espeon! Finish this up with Giga Impact!”
“Espeon!” it said. It then charged at Team Rocket with Giga Impact, hitting them all and causing a huge explosion.
“TEAM ROCKET’S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!!” they said as they flew into the distance.
After returning the Octillery to the habitat, we left, waving to them. They waved back to us and even fired Octazookas into the air. I made my way back to the Warden only to find my old friend Phoebe talking with him.
“What do you mean?! I was sent here to resolve this crisis!” she said.
“But your organization already sent somebody!” the Warden responded.
“Impossible! I’ve heard nothing of this! The organization-”
“…does not need to worry about the situation anymore!” I said as I walked up. Phoebe was quite surprised to see me.
“Mike?! What are you doing here? That scar! And that patch-!”
“Relax. I took care of things. The Octillery and the other Water Pokémon are safe, Mr. Warden!” I said. I then exited the Safari Zone with a befuddled Phoebe, explaining things to her and laughing all the while.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 34: Clash of the Titans
Making our way to Mt. Pyre, I explained to Phoebe everything that had transpired in her absence: Deoxys, Zapdos’ attack, The Weather Institute, and other things (although I forgot to tell her about the Mirage Tower). She seemed to take it all fairly well, and I’m positive she understood everything.
“I don’t understand ANYTHING!” she said as we finally got to Mt. Pyre.
“Oh, don’t worry about it. Adventures like these are a lot to take in, believe me,” I replied.
“Speak for yourself, Mike,” Deoxys interjected.
We went up the mountain to the summit, where Phoebe’s grandparents waited. They were standing at some kind of altar with two half-spheres in the center. Upon arriving, Phoebe greeted her grandparents, then introduced me.
“Pleasure to meet you, young man! So, you’re David’s son!” her grandmother said.
“That’s right!” I replied.
“Well, it’s good to have you as a part of our organization! I’m sure that with your help, we can protect the world of Pokémon! Especially this place, for this sacred mountain is essential to the legacy of the land and sea!” her grandfather said.
“They’re talking about Groudon and Kyogre,” Phoebe said. “Groudon controls the power of the land, and Kyogre the power of the sea. Right now, the powers are stable, but if someone were to awaken Groudon and Kyogre without something to keep them in line, the power would run rampant and endanger the world! Areas would become severly affected by massive droughts or torrential rain. But, it’s unlikely that’ll happen anytime soon!”
“Groudon and Kyogre…of course!” I said, remembering the sculptures in the Mirage Tower. “We came across sculptures of Groudon and Kyogre in a tower in the desert! It’s also where I found these two or-”
I was cut off by a loud explosion that shook the mountain. I looked around frantically, only to look up and find a throng of black helicopters with red “R”’s on them. They all landed on the areas near the summit, and made their way up. I got out Espeon and managed to fight them off, but we soon found ourselves surrounded by Rocket Grunts and their Poison Pokémon like Crobat, Weezing, Muk, and others. It was then that Giovanni and his Persian made their way to us.
“Well, Mr. McCarver,” he said with a smirk. “I’m glad you could be here to witness my world conquest! With the powers of land and sea at my disposal, I shall take over everything!”
“Like hell!” I replied angrily.
“Bite your tongue, young man. And don’t try anything funny, or we’ll blow up the entire mountain!”
“Reowr!” Persian growled.
“Espe!” Espeon responded.
“Espeon, calm down,” I said to Espeon. It stood down, and Giovanni continued on.
“In just a metter of minutes, Groudon and Kyogre, who are located in this area, will awaken and clash! Their powers shall run rampant and devastate the world, and once I gain control over these two, all shall bow to my whims!”
“We won’t let you get away with this!” Phoebe shouted. That earned her a Wing Attack from a Crobat. Her grandparents tended to her, while I watched Giovanni.
“Now, let us usher in a new age: an age of chaos!” he said as there were two more explosions underwater. Suddenly, half of the sky was covered with stormclouds, and the other half was covered by a sun with increased intensity. Out of the ocean came Groudon and Kyogre, just like the sculptures looked, except Groudon was red, and Kyogre was blue. They began to fight, firing their attacks over and over again at each other. “HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Now, capture them!” Giovanni said as the helicopters fired giant nets. However, as the nets surrounded Groudon and Kyogre, the Pokémon looked at the helicopters and fired Hyper Beams, destroying the helicopters. I stood in shock at this destruction, unable to move because all this rattled me so much. Giovanni ordered the remaining helicopters to fire missles. Kyogre used Hydro Pump to deflect them all and destroy the remaining helicopters. “Very well! Crobat, use Supersonic!” Giovanni said. The Crobat flew forward and screeched to the point of creating soundwaves. The soundwaves hit Groudon and Kyogre, but it caused them to aim their attacks this way. I seized the opportunity and jumped down the side, with Espeon following me closely. I heard many Rocket grunts cry out during the explosion of the attacks but Phoebe and her grandparents were safe, as far as I could see. We made our way to the bank, where we felt the waves of the battle rush against the island.
“Groudon! Kyogre! You have to stop this! Otherwise, all humanity and Pokémon could very well be in danger!” Kyogre looked at me as I said this, but Groudon took the opportunity to nail Kyogre with a Solarbeam. Kyogre was sent back a ways, dazed. Groudon then turned to me and fired a Mud Shot. “Espeon, Confusion!” Espeon caught the Mud Shot and fired it back, but Groudon’s Solarbeam cut right through it. Knowing it was too soon to have Espeon attack again, I grabbed Metang’s Poke Ball. “Metang, intercept!” I said as I called it out. Metang intercepted the attack, but it looked like the attack did quite a bit of damage, even though Metang was a Steel-Type. Just then, a Hydro Pump nailed Groudon and sent it far back. Kyogre swam over and stopped in front of me, roared at us, then went off to fight Groudon again.
“It said to back off and leave this to it!” Deoxys translated, now out of its ball. “According to Kyogre, Groudon is still confused from Supersonic and ready to destroy anything and everything, so Kyogre is trying to-wait! LOOK OUT!” A series of Solarbeams were coming our way. We couldn’t stop that many! I closed my eyes, knowing the end was here.
“EMPOLEON! FLASH CANNON!” I heard a voice say. Just then, there were loud explosions, but we were unharmed. I looked up to see the back of a Trainer about my height, but one or two years older. He was wearing a green button-down shirt with rolled-up sleeves, blue jeans, and his hair looked quite gelled. With him was a giant penguin-like Pokémon. Luckily, I’d updated my Pokedex the day before, so I pulled it out to see what this was.
“Empoleon, the Emperor Pokémon. Empoleon’s three horns extending from its beak attest to its power. The edges of its wings are sharp and can slice drifting ice apart.”
“Wow. That isn’t like any Pokémon I’ve ever seen!” I said, astonished.
“I see you’re causing trouble, like always!” the trainer said.
Immediately knowing who it was from the voice, I responded: “Oh, you’re one to talk, Mr. Didn’t-Come-Back-From-Sinnoh!”
He then turned around. True enough, this trainer was one of my own flesh and blood: Mark McCarver, my older brother. He had initially gone to the Sinnoh region to study, but he never came back and went on his own Pokémon journey. Eventually, he decided to get into Pokémon Contests in Sinnoh. He adopted the stage name “The Great Sephiod” and became an accomplished Pokémon Coordinator; he had even won a Ribbon Cup from the Grand Festival in Sinnoh the year before. I wondered what he was doing back in Hoenn.
“So, you’ve got quite the collection of Pokémon, little brother! Winning badges?” he asked.
“Yeah, I’ve got two more to go. Thanks for helping us!”
“Mike, who is this guy?” Deoxys interjected.
“Uh…” Mark said. I explained things, and then he said: “Oh, I see. Jeez, how’d you get such a legendary Pokémon?!”
“Wit’ a lil’ bit…” I sang.
“Ixnay on the Dr. Doolittle!”
“Pleasure to meet you, but stopping Groudon and Kyogre kinda takes precedence over the whole bonding thing.”
“Okay, we know Empoleon and I can stop their attacks, but we can’t hold them off forever. Any advice?” Mark asked.
“They’re just too powerful for my Psychic Pokémon! The only thing that can stop them is Rayquaza! I remember from the Mirage Tower: we encountered their sculptures, then Deoxys activated the Rayquaza sculpture, which stopped them!”
“That’s right! But Rayquaza lives to the far south, at Sky Pillar! How are we supposed to call it?!”
“There is a way,” Phoebe said, her and her grandparents now next to us. “…but I’m not sure exactly what it is! All I know that it had to do with the Red and Blue Orbs connected to Groudon and Kyogre!”
“The Orbs, however, have long since been lost! We cannot do a thing without them,” her grandfather said.
“Not so far long! Espeon, c’mon! Mark, Deoxys! Guard everyone, and if the attacks come your way, hold them off!”
“Are you nuts?! Where are you going?!” Mark responded.
“To save the world!” I said. “It’s showtime, Espeon!”
We then made our way up. Espeon occaisionally had to hold off Solarbeams from Groudon, but they didn’t hamper our progress too much. From the corner of my eye, I could see Empoleon, Deoxys, Metang, and Phoebe’s Dusclops fighting off the attacks as well. As soon as I made it to the top, Giovanni was still there, staring at the battle.
“Get out of here! You’re only endangering yourself!” I shouted.
“…never…I never would’ve thought that I could fail…” Giovanni said, in a trance. Just then, Persian leapt at us with a Slash attack.
“Espeon, Psychic!” Espeon’s Psychic caught Persian in the air, and sent it flying into Giovanni.
“…what?! YOU! You’re the one to disrupt my plans yet again, aren’t you?! I swear I’ll get my revenge, and very soon!” he said as he snapped back to reality. He and Persian then ran off and got on the only helicopter left, flying it away.
“Well, at least he’s out of the way. Good work, pal!”
“Now, we’ve got to end this once and for all!” I said as I got the Red and Blue Orbs out of my backpack. By this time, they were glowing and giving off symbols of the opposite color. I went up to the altar, only to get blasted by a Solarbeam from Groudon. “RRGH!” I said, falling to the ground below.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine. Can you hold Groudon off?”
“All right, go!” Espeon went to the front, ready to deflect the attacks with Confusion because Groudon had focused on me at this time. I went to the altar and held the two orbs into the air. “Red and Blue Orbs! I command thee, bring peace to us once again!” I then placed the orbs into the altar, and they shot out streams of light, creating a Jade Orb. Then that orb sent out its own light into the air. A few seconds later, a green serpent-like dragon Pokémon descended from the heavens. It was Rayquaza! It went between Groudon and Kyogre, and roared as loud as it could. At once, Groudon and Kyogre backed off. Groudon went onto land and underground from there, while Kyogre descended into the sea. At once, the weather and the waves returned to normal, but the Jade Orb disappeared. That evening, after receiving congratulations from everyone and explaining everything, we began to part ways.
“Take care, Mike. I’m always ready for that rematch anytime you like!” Phoebe said to me.
“That’ll be a match to remember!” I replied, shaking her hand.
“Come back anytime! And don’t worry, we’ll guard the Red and Blue Orbs!” her grandmother said.
“Well, shall we get going?” Mark asked.
“I believe so. Goodbye!”
And so, enriched by the experience of witnessing two legends in action, and with Mark as a new traveling companion, I was more than ready to continue my quest on the road to Ever Grande.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 35: One More for the Road
“So, why’d you have to dress up like that?” I asked.
“Well, that IS the custom in Sinnoh: to wear costumes while performing. I guess I’ve just gotten really used to it. Also, our Contest Poke Balls receive special covers for special effects.” Mark said, wearing a tuxedo with a mask.
“That sounds pretty neat. Anyway, I like your Umbreon’s style! Using Swift, Psychic, and Moonlight for a nighttime effect rocked!”
“Thanks, that one took a TON of practice. But still, THE GREAT SEPHIOD triumphed in the end!” he replied, holding up a ribbon.
“…if anyone asks, we’re not related,” I replied with a sigh.
We had finally made it to Lilycove City, and Mark immediately entered the Contest being held there and won with his Umbreon. We’d decided to stop off at the Pokémon Center before deciding what to do before the ferry to Mossdeep City the next day. After our Pokémon were brought back to full health, we let them out to meet each other. He had some interesting Pokémon: an Aerodactyl (which I thought to be extinct), a Mime Jr., a tiny pink humanoid-like Pokémon with a blue hat, a Breloom, the evolved form of Shroomish, a Ninetales, a yellow fox Pokémon with nine tails, his Empoleon, and an Umbreon, which looked like a black fox with yellow rings and red eyes. I took out the Pokedex for Umbreon because it looked like Espeon.
“Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokémon. Umberon is the evolved form of Eevee. When exposed to the moon’s aura, the rings on its body begin to glow and it gains mysterious power.”
“Wow, Umbreon sure looks well-trained.”
“Should be. It was the first Pokémon I ever got, followed swiftly by Piplup, which became Empoleon here! These two have always been a part of my team!”
“Umbre!” Umbreon replied, nuzzling Mark.
“Empoleon!” Empoleon added, patting Mark’s back.
“Heh, I’m just the same with Espeon and Metang!” I said.
“Espe!” Espeon replied, nuzzling me.
“Metang!” Metang added, patting my back.
“Well, what should we do? The ferry’s tomorrow,” I said.
“We could try checking out the art museum,” Mark suggested.
“Hey, Mike! Over here!” a familiar voice said.
“Brendan?! Hey!” I said as I went over and high-fived with him. “So, where’d you go after the Weather Institute incident?”
“I decided to do some exploring in that area. Caught some new Pokémon and learned a lot about the environment! Anyway, how’d your Gym Battle go?” Brendan asked.
“Went great! And I’m about to go for my next badge in Mossdeep City!” I said, showing him the Feather Badge.
“Wow, so that’ll be your seventh? You must be really good at this point! Say, want to battle with me before you go?”
“Sounds good! Let’s do it!”
We stepped into the practice fields outside, and Mark stood between us. “This will be a two-on-two match with no time limit! Battle will end when either trainer’s Pokémon is unable to continue! Begin!”
“Showtime, Espeon!” I said as I sent Espeon out.
“Let’s do it, Swampert!” he said. He then sent out a giant blue Pokémon that looked sort of like his Marshtomp.
“Swampert!” the Pokémon shouted. I took out my Pokedex.
“Swampert, the Mud Fish Pokémon. Swampert is the final evolved form of Mudkip. Swampert is a powerful Pokémon that can track even a large ship as well as inflict critical damage to its enemies with one blow.”
“Oh, so Marshtomp evolved? Cool! Okay, Espeon! Use Swift attack!” Espeon fired a Swift attack that knocked Swampert back a ways.
“Swampert, counter that with Tackle attack!” Swampet’s Tackle knocked Espeon back the same distance. “Good, now give it a Hammer Arm!” Swampert raised its arm into the air, then came charging at Espeon with the arm still raised.
“Counter that with your Iron Tail, Espeon!” Espeon’s Iron Tail intercepted the attack, but both Pokémon took damage from the collision.
“Swampert, Hydro Pump!” Swampert fired a Hydro Pump at Espeon.
“Just like old times! Confusion!” Espeon’s Confusion caught the Hydro Pump and sent it right back, causing significant damage. “Way to go, Espeon!”
“Endeavor!” Brendan said excitedly.
Swampert glowed with a multi-colored aura, then punched Espeon. The attack lowered Espeon’s stamina to equal Swampert’s.
“Oh, no! Use Psychic!” Espeon’s Psychic threw Swampert into the air.
“Swampert! Use Ice Beam from where you are!” In midair, Swampert fired an Ice Beam at Espeon.
“Espeon, Confusion again!” Espeon’s Confusion caught the Ice Beam and sent it back. All it did was freeze Swampert’s head, but Swampert was still detained in trying to get the ice off.
“Swampert, hang in there! Try a Brick Break!” Swampert’s Brick Break broke the ice, but the attack hit Swampert in the head, so it was dazed for a bit.
“Espeon, now’s our chance! Homerun attack times five!” I said.
“Huh?” Mark asked. Espeon fired five Shadow Balls into the air, leapt after them with Quick Attack, then used Iron Tail to knock them into Swampert for massive damage. “Hm, interesting technique.”
“Swampert, Endeavor!” Swampert charged at Espeon with an Endeavor attack.
“We’re not falling for that trick twice! Use Psychic!” Espeon’s Psychic stopped Swampert, rammed it against the ground, then sent it flying back a distance.
“Swampert, this is the finale! Use Hyper Beam!” Swampert prepared a Hyper Beam.
“Uh-oh! Espeon, time for our trump card as well! GIGA IMPACT!”
“WHAT?!?” Mark shouted, obviously unable to process this. Nevertheless, Espeon charged forward with a Giga Impact. It leapt through Swampert’s Hyper Beam like it was nothing, then nailed Swampert, knocking it out but good.
“Uh, Swampert is unable to battle! Espeon is the winner!” Mark said, surprised (probably the first time I’ve ever done that to him).
“Way to go, Espeon!”
“Espeon!” it responded happily.
“You did great, Swampert! Take a rest!” he said as he returned Swampert to its Poke Ball. “Okay, Shiftry! You’re up!” he said as he sent out a Shiftry, who looked raring to go. “Use Bullet Seed!” Shiftry fired a Bullet Seed.
“Okay, use Confusion!” Espeon’s Confusion fired the Bullet Seed right back, but the attack had no effect whatsoever. “No! Shiftry’s the evolved form of Nuzleaf, so it’s a Dark-Type! Psychic attacks won’t work!”
“Shiftry, use Faint Attack!” Shiftry nailed Espeon with its T-shaped foot. “Now finish it with Extrasensory!” Shiftry used Extrasensory to damage Espeon. It didn’t seem to do much, but enough to knock Espeon out.
“Espeon is unable to battle! Shiftry is the winner!” Mark said.
“Return, Espeon!” I said, returning Espeon to its Poke Ball. “You did a great job! Take a good rest! Okay! Go, Metang!” I said as I sent Metang out of its Poke Ball.
“Good choice! Shiftry, use Faint Attack!” Shiftry leapt at Metang with its foot. However, Metang grabbed it before it could hit.
“Now, Metang! Take Down!” Metang charged at a nearby boulder with a Take Down. “Reverse Release!” Metang swung its arms forward, then let go of Shiftry. However, Shiftry grabbed Metang at the last minute, then threw it into the boulder instead, causing Metang major damage. “What?! But…but-”
“Shiftry, use Bullet Seed!” Shiftry fired a barrage of Bullet Seeds at Metang. Weak as they were, they were still enough to throw Metang off its game.
“Come on, Metang! You’re stronger than this! I know you can do it! Use Meteor Mash!” Metang spun through the Bullet Seed with Meteor Mash, then used it to nail Shiftry. After Shiftry got up, the two Pokémon looked exhausted. However, Metang began to glow with a bright aura. Within the aura, it increased in size and gained two more arms. When the aura dissipated, the spikes were gone, but there was an X in the front, and it looked like it finally had a mouth.
“Whoa, your Metang evolved!” Brendan said, astounded.
“Yeah!” I replied, getting out my Pokedex.
“Metagross, the Iron Leg Pokémon. Metagross is the evolved form of Metang, and because of its four brains, its intelligence rivals that of a supercomputer. It can float in the air by tucking in its four legs.”
“Wow, that’s awesome! Okay, Metagross! It’s showtime!”
“Shiftry! Use Solarbeam!” Shiftry charged up for a Solarbeam.
“Metagross! Use Brick Break!” Metagross floated at Shiftry and delivered a Brick Break onto its head, causing it to inadvertently fire the Solarbeam into the air. “Now grab it again!” Metagross grabbed Shiftry’s hand. “Now use Take Down again!” Metagross used Take Down towards the remains of the boulder.
“Shiftry, get ready to grab onto Metagross!” Shiftry raised its other hand into the air.
“Now, spin!” Metagross spun around in place, causing Shiftry to become disoriented. “Finish it! Reverse Release!” Metagross stopped spinning and, at the same time, released a dizzy Shiftry. Shiftry careened into the rubble, and was down for the count.
“Shiftry is unable to battle! Metagross is the winner, and the victory goes to Mike from Littleroot Town!”
“Way to go, Metagross! You were awesome!”
“Shiftry, you were great. You deserve a rest.” Brendan said as he returned Shiftry to its Poke Ball. “I’m really impressed with your skills, Mike! You’ve managed to beat us time and time again because of the power your Pokémon have!”
“No, Brendan. That power was fueled by the bonds between us. That’s how we won,” I replied.
“Well said. In any case, I think I’m going to head back home until the next Ever Grande Conference. Catch you on the flip side and keep up with your training!”
“You too, Brendan! The son of Professor Birch can’t afford to slack, can he?!” I called as he went off. He grinned and waved as he left. Take care, Brendan. I’ll see you again.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 36: On a Corphishin’ Expedition
“So, where exactly did Espeon learn to use Giga Impact?”
“At New Mauville, when Zapdos attacked me.”
“Pull the other one!”
Mark and I were walking along Lilycove City’s beach, Espeon and Umbreon accompanying us. It was the day the ferry was to leave for Mossdeep City, where I could challenge the next Gym Leader for my seventh badge. We came across a pile of Oran Berries at a random spot.
“What are these things doing in a place like this?” Mark asked.
“Maybe to lure a wild Pokémon?” I speculated. Just then, out of the sand, a green crawfish-like Pokémon jumped out.
“Cor-PHISH!” it said, then ate the berries.
“Whoa, that’s a Corphish! But I thought Corphish were supposed to be red!” Mark said, befuddled.
“CORPHISH! YOU’RE MINE!” a voice said. Out of nowhere, a guy dressed up as a red Corphish jumped at us. “You two, I saw it first!”
“Saw what? A mirror?” I asked.
“Heh, not likely,” Mark added, amused.
“This is just to make Corphish here feel at ease! NOW BACK OFF!”
“Okay, okay!” we said as we backed off.
“Okay, Corphish! Today’s the day I finally capture you!” the guy said.
“Phish Corphish!” the Ruffian Pokémon replied, ready to battle.
“Go, Lairon!” the guy shouted as he threw a Poke Ball. Out came a Lairon just like Brendan’s. “Use Metal Claw!” Lairon nailed Corphish with a Metal Claw attack. However, Corphish was unfazed by it and nailed Lairon with a strong stream of bubbles. “That was Bubblebeam! Lairon, use Take Down!” Lairon charged at Corphish with a Take Down. Corphish jumped up to dodge, then came back down with a glowing claw. It slammed down on Lairon and knocked it out. “Oh, man! Not Crabhammer again! Lairon, return!” he said as he returned Lairon to its Poke Ball. “Okay, one more shot! Arcanine! Let’s do it!” he said as he threw out a Poke Ball. Out came an Arcanine, a red dog-like Pokémon. I took out my Pokedex.
“Arcanine, the Legendary Pokémon. Arcanine is the evolved form of Growlithe. Arcanine runs so smoothly that it appears to be flying and is known for its majestic cry.”
“Arcanine, use Flame Wheel!” Arcanine rushed at Corphish with a Flame Wheel, but Corphish’s Bubblebeam stopped Arcanine in its tracks. Corphish then grabbed Arcanine’s leg with its pincers. “That was Vicegrip! Arcanine, use Flame Wheel again!” Arcanine used Flame Wheel while Corphish was grabbing on. Corphish seemed to be burning, but it used Crabhammer on Arcanine, causing Arcanine to fall down, passed out. “GAAAAHH!” the guy said.
“Phish Cor Corphish!” Corphish said, laughing. It then dug down into the sand.
“Aw, man! I can never get this right!” the guy said. He took off his costume and sat down. He was wearing a maroon T-shirt and jean shorts and his hair was black and frizzy. “How will I ever catch that Corphish?” he said, looking defeated.
“By thinking about type advantages and disadvantages!” I said as Mark and I walked up. “Pokémon like Arcanine are weak against Water Pokémon like Corphish!”
“Really? Wait…oh, man! That’s right! NOW they tell me! But…Lairon and Arcanine are my strongest, so I-”
“Relax, we’ll help you out! I’m Mike!”
“And I’m Mark.”
“I’m Ed! It’s nice to meet you both! So, what do you guys have in mind?”
Later, we were waiting for the hour to come. 3:00 was when Corphish made its rounds. Luckily, the ferry didn’t leave until 5:00, so we had plenty of time. While we were waiting, Ed asked me a question.
“Does that Espeon know any moves to counter Pokémon like your brother’s Umbreon?”
“What? Uh…no. However, I think its moves are good enough as they are.”
“Yeah? Then why did it lose so easily to a Dark-Type yesterday?” Mark asked, grinning.
“Because shut up,” I answered.
“Got it,” Mark replied.
“No problem! I have just the thing! Volbeat, I choose you!” He sent out a Pokémon that looked like a firefly. “Volbeat, let’s show these guys Signal Beam!”
“Vol…BEAT!” Volbeat said as it fired out a beam of light from its tail. Espeon and I were astounded by this.
“The key is focusing on the light source and emitting that light as hard as you can!”
“Okay, we’ll give it a shot! Espeon, try out Signal Beam!”
“Espe…” it said. I could see the gem on its head glow, but the energy dissipated. “Espe?”
“Don’t worry, it just takes practice!” I said. “Let’s try it again!” Espeon fired a faint beam that only went a couple of inches. “You’ve got the idea! We’ve just got to work on it! Remember, power isn’t everything; thinking it through will help you out tremendously!”
“Thinking it through…huh…” Ed said.
“There it is!” Mark whispered to us. We looked to see that it had gone for the Oran Berries. “Okay, just like we practiced. Go for it!”
“OK!” Ed replied. Just as Ed moved forward, however, a net flew out and entangled Corphish.
“ESPE!” I heard. I turned around to see Espeon being lifted into the air by a robotic claw. The Pokémon were both lifted toward a jet-like hovercraft high above us, and from it came two very familiar laughs.
“TEAM ROCKET! Aren’t you going to take a hint anytime soon?!” I yelled up at them. They lowered the craft a bit so I could see their faces.
“We’re not too big on learning, kid!” Olson said.
“Except learning from our mistakes, of course!” Ashley added.
“Then you stand to learn a lot from this! Umbreon, Swift Attack!” Mark said.
“UMBREON!” the Pokémon said as it fired a Swift Attack. The attack did nothing to Team Rocket’s hovercraft.
“Damn, we’ve got to save those Pokémon! Espeon, use Psychic!”
“Oh, no you don’t! Orfan, do it!”
“MY NAME IS OLSON!” he said as he pressed a button. Espeon was shocked by the robotic claw.
“NO! ESPEON!” I said. We’ve got to do something! But what?
“I’ve got it!” Ed said. “Corphish, try a Vicegrip to free yourself!” Corphish looked at him, confused, but then cut through the net with its pincers. Ashley and Olson began to freak out.
“Wow, did they really not count on Corphish’s pincers?” Mark asked.
“Olson! Why was it able to cut through that special net?!” Ashley said.
“I, um…oh look, a sponge!” Olson responded.
“I had to ask,” Mark said.
“We can still get away with Espeon!” Ashley said. “Ta-ta!”
“No you don’t! Umbreon, use Psychic!” Umbreon used Psychic to grab the hovercraft and release Espeon.
“All right! Espeon, you okay?” I asked as I hugged Espeon.
“Espe!” Espeon replied happily.
“Okay, let’s get some sweet revenge! SIGNAL BEAM!”
“Espe…ON!” it said as it fired a Signal Beam at Team Rocket. It didn’t look like it was at full power, but it was enough. Upon impact, the craft fell to the ground, only to explode at the hands of Corphish’s Crabhammer.
“NOOOO! WE’RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!” Team Rocket said as the explosion blew them into the distance.
“Way to go, you guys!” I said.
“Those two seem like some kind of comic relief or something,” Mark noted, regarding Team Rocket.
“So, Corphish! Ready to battle with me?”
“Corphish Phish,” it said as it shook its head. It went over to Ed and held out its claw.
“You…you want to come with me?” Ed asked, surprised.
“Wow, that’s awesome, Ed! Not quite according to plan, but awesome anyway!” I said.
“Yeah…YEAH! All right!” He threw out a Poke Ball and Corphish hit it, entered, and was caught. “I CAUGHT A CORPHISH! Thank you guys for helping me!”
“Hey it was our pleasure! Anyway-”
“There has to be something I can do to make it up to you! Um…hey, you said you’re going to the Mossdeep Gym, right?”
“Right,” I said.
“Then I’m going too! And I’m gonna help you win your seventh badge!”
“Wh-are you sure?” He nodded. “…okay, Ed. Welcome to the team!” I said as I shook his hand.
“Well, THIS is going to be interesting,” Mark said.
With a new friend and his new Corphish along for the ride, we were more than ready to leave for Mossdeep City and my seventh Gym Battle.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 37: Mossdeep, We Have a Problem
It took a couple of days, but our ferry finally made it to Mossdeep City, home of the Shoal Cave, the Mossdeep Space Center, and most importantly, the Mossdeep Gym. Mark, Ed, and I made our way to the Gym, only to find that it was closed. There was a woman walking out of the gym with blue hair and glasses.
“Excuse me, ma’am? Exactly why is the gym closed today?” I asked her.
“Well, the Gym Leaders have gone to oversee the rocket shuttle takeoff today. You see, their father, Jin, is the main pilot, and he makes these trips to the space station every year or so, and each time, they make it a point to see that he’s taken off successfully. You can come with me to the center if you want to meet them.”
“Them?” Ed asked.
“That’s right, there are two Gym Leaders here!” Mark said. “Tate and Liza, twin Gym Leaders of Mossdeep City!”
“You’re well-informed,” Ed said.
“I did my research,” Mark replied.
“Anyway, meeting them sounds good. And the Space Center sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon!” I said. As soon as the other guys agreed, we were off. The woman’s name was Rachel, and she was Liza’s and Tate’s mother as well. “Ms. Rachel, may two challengers battle Liza and Tate?” I asked her.
“Hmm, two challengers? That’s a new one…I’ll just leave it up to the kids!” she replied.
We soon arrived at the Space Center, quickly getting wrapped up in all of its activities. We even let our Pokémon out to play. Espeon and I were walking along towards where the rocket was going to lift off, but we then encountered a Solrock wandering the halls.
“Hey, dude! You lost?”
“Well, we can help you find your Trainer if you want!”
“Chol…Cholololrock!” It seemed hesitant at first, but then looked as if the idea appealed to it. We went through the halls, asking people if Solrock belonged to them and getting the same answer. It took us a while, but we soon saw a boy in light blue clothing and a sort of Chinese hairstyle running up.
“Solrock, there you are!”
“Chololololrock!” Solrock said happily, flying to him.
“I’m sorry I lost track of you! Hey,” he said, looking at me. “Are you the one who found my Solrock? Thank you!”
“No problem. Just be sure to keep an eye on it!” I said.
“Hey…wait, you’re…you’re Mike McCarver!” he exclaimed.
“You’ve heard of me?”
“Heard of you? Are you kidding?! You’ve created quite a buzz around the Hoenn Region! Ooh, ooh! My sister’s had a GINORMOUS crush on you ever since your battle with Roxanne! Oh man, she’s going to be SO JEALOUS!” he said, almost laughing.
“Yeah, she won’t be the only one,” I mumbled to myself. I was unable to decide whether I wanted Alexis around right now or not.
“Hey, come with me! I’m sure there are some people who want to meet you! Including the shuttle’s pilot, my dad!” he said, leading me down the hall.
“YOUR DAD?! Th-that must mean you’re…”
“Heh heh, caught red-handed! I’m Tate, co-Gym Leader of Mossdeep City!”
“It’s great to meet you! This is a little embarrassing, but I came to Mossdeep for a Gym Battle! Would that be all right?”
“Well, today’s a little tricky, but tomorrow would be just great! I’m sure Liza will want to know about this! She’s been dying to meet you!” We then started to run down a hall, Espeon laughing all the way at my confusion.
“Say, are tag battles okay in your Gym?” I asked, thinking about Ed.
“Well, I don’t remember ever having one before. However, I think we can allow it!” Tate said.
We then found the control deck, where several people were working, and there was a man in an orange suit, as well as a girl who looked like Tate, except with a different hairdo. With her was a Lunatone, a Pokémon that looked like a crescent moon with red eyes.
“Hey, Dad! Liza! You’ll never believe who I just found!” Tate said. They turned around, and he moved away to reveal me to them. Liza looked like she was going to pass out, and their father, Jin, came up to me and shook my hand.
“Well, it’s good to see you again, Mike. I’m sure you’ve heard this many times, but you look just like your father!” he said.
“Very nice to meet you, Mr. Jin,” I replied.
“Wait, you know him, Dad?” Tate said.
“Well, his father and I go very far back, son!” He took Tate off to explain things, while I thought to myself, Uh-oh, I hope he doesn’t tell Tate about the PWE. I then felt my hand being taken by two others. I spun around to see a very red-faced Liza right beside me.
“I just want to say…I AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN! I’ve been watching your battle with Roxanne over and over again, and I can’t get enough of it! And this scar makes you look so COOL! Can I get an autograph?!” she raved.
“Uh, okay…” I said, uncomfortable as all hell. I signed a picture she just so conveniently had of me, ashamed of the pose I was making in it.
“And this is your Espeon! It’s so pretty! And its figure is awesome! Oh, I could just rant about you two all day!” she said, stroking Espeon’s back. “Oh, this is my Pokémon, Lunatone!”
“Lun!” Lunatone said.
“Espe…” Espeon said awkwardly (to me, of course).
“So, Mike! I guess you’ve come to battle me and Tate, huh?” she said, both her arms around one of mine.
“Uh, yes! Tate already told me the basics. Also, would it be okay if a friend of mine joined us for a Tag Battle? Tate’s given the green light, but I didn’t know how you felt about it, so I wanted to make sure YOU-”
“EEEEEEEEE!!” she shouted, her face redder than ever. “You wanted to know how I-I can’t believe you were thinking about ME!”
“Then don’t. I BEG you,” I muttered.
“Of COURSE it would be all right! I mean, the more the merrier, right?”
“Right! Thank-” I was cut off (AGAIN) by a loud explosion which threw us to the ground. As I looked around, Espeon and Lunatone were missing. “Oh, no! The Pokémon are gone!”
“LUNATONE!” she said, pointing at the shuttle. As fate would have it, Ashley and Olson were climbing up into the shuttle with Espeon and Lunatone in tow. I tried to stop them, but the shuttle immediately took off.
“How are we going to stop them?” Jin asked as he and Tate came running back.
“With no small amount of difficulty! Deoxys, showtime!” I said, throwing Deoxys’ Ball. It came out and implanted its aura in Tate.
“Okay, Mike. What’s your plan?”
“We’re going to fly up there, defeat them, and get back the Pokémon and the shuttle!”
“All right. Hold onto your lunch!” Deoxys said as it used Psychic on me. We then flew towards the shuttle and made it to the cockpit as they were taking off. We opened the hatch, causing Ashley and Olson to freak out.
“How’d that little runt get up here?! Orson, take care of him!”
“IT’S OLSON! Golem, use Tackle!” He sent out Golem, who leapt at us with a Tackle.
“Use Psychic!” Deoxys’ Psychic lifted Golem and Team Rocket into the air, and we got them out and dropped them to the ground. “You hold them there and take Espeon and Lunatone with you! I’ll try and find a way to keep this shuttle from taking off!”
“All right, but be careful!” Deoxys took everybody down to the ground, while I hopped inside the shuttle and desperately looked for a shutoff switch. However, I was too late; the shuttle took off. It went about twenty feet into the air before I took action. I frantically looked around, but then saw an ABORT switch, so I pressed it. The engines began to die down, and the shuttle remained attached to the rocket. However, it began to fall back down, and without my Pokémon around, I felt that this was the end. That’s when my scar began to hurt again, meaning it was probably activating on its own. At once, everything was yellow, and the next thing I knew, the rocket had returned to the launch pad. I looked out the window and saw Deoxys with Espeon, Lunatone, Team Rocket, and Mark, to my surprise. I made my way out and down to them, where Mark got on my case about being reckless.
“Jeez, Mark! I’m sorry, okay?!” That’s when I noticed Team Rocket trying to grab Espeon. “Espeon, Signal Beam!” Espeon fired a Signal Beam at Team Rocket, this time more powerful than ever. “You guys ought to be ashamed for what you’ve done here!” I said.
“Hey, we weren’t ashamed to kidnap your GIRLFRIEND!” Olson said smugly.
“So what makes you think we’re ashamed now?!” Ashley said, just as smugly.
“Oh, you just crossed the line! ESPEON! SHADOW BALL TIMES TEN!” Espeon fired ten Shadow Balls into the air. “GO AFTER THEM WITH QUICK ATTACK!” Espeon leapt up. “STRIKE THEM OUT WITH IRON TAIL!!!” Espeon’s Iron Tail rammed the balls into Team Rocket, and the ensuing explosion caused them to fly into the air.
“NOT AGAAAAAAIN!” they said as they flew into the distance.
Later, we were all gathered together. I had just returned Lunatone to Liza, who nearly crushed both Lunatone while showing relief, and my rib cage while showing gratitude.
“Well, it seems like those guys will never give up,” Ed said.
“Yeah, but as long as we’re around, they won’t be winning anytime soon!” I responded.
“So, Mike! Are you ready for tomorrow?” Liza asked.
“You know it! We’re coming for that badge!” I responded.
“And you, Ed? Think you’re up to a Gym Battle?” Tate asked.
“I think I’m ready to try this Gym!” Ed responded.
Having met the two Gym Leaders and stopping Team Rocket once again, we were ready to go for the next Gym Battle and the next badge.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 38: Out of State, Out of Mind Badge
“So, who are you guys going to use?”
“I’m going with Corphish! I’m so excited; it’s our first battle together!”
“I’m sticking with Espeon. I figure since Liza is a big fan of the two of us, I’ll do her a favor!”
“You don’t want to make Alexis jealous, do you?”
“If you won’t tell her, I won’t!”
Mark, Ed and I had made it to the Gym the day after we’d fought Team Rocket. Hoping to win another badge, we were ready to face the Psychic twins: Liza and Tate. The Gym looked like a giant planetarium, with faux planets all over the ceiling. The twins took their place on the left, and me and Ed on the right. Rachel, the twins’ mother, got two flags and took her place on the side, and Mark went to the bleachers.
“This battle between Liza and Tate, Leaders of the Mossdeep Gym, and Mike and Ed, the challengers, will now begin! Each trainer will be allotted the use of one Pokémon for two teams using Tag Battle rules! Trainers may not substitute their Pokémon, and battle will end when both of either team’s Pokémon are unable to continue! Begin!”
“Lunatone, let’s go!”
“Solrock, you’re up!”
“Espeon, it’s showtime!”
“Corphish, I choose you!”
We sent out Espeon and Corphish, while Liza and Tate sent out Lunatone and Solrock.
“Just because I like you doesn’t mean I’m going to go easy on you, Mike! Lunatone, Ice Beam!” Lunatone fired an Ice Beam at Espeon.
“Good, I wouldn’t have it any other way! Espeon, Signal Beam!” Espeon fired a Signal Beam to counter Lunatone’s attack.
“Solrock, Solarbeam!” Solrock fired a Solarbeam at Corphish.
“Corphish, Bubblebeam!” Corphish fired a Bubblebeam to counter Solrock’s attack.
“Lunatone, use Tackle!” Lunatone charged at Espeon.
“Espeon, dodge and jump up to the planet above!” Espeon jumped up to the planet above it.
“Solrock, use Fire Spin!” Solrock fired a Fire Spin at Corphish.
“Corphish, dodge and use Crabhammer!” Corphish slid under Solrock to dodge, then it launched Solrock upward with its Crabhammer. Luckily, Lunatone was about to Tackle Espeon, but Solrock went crashing into Lunatone, throwing it off.
“Thanks, Ed! Psybeam, Espeon!” Espeon fired a Psybeam.
“Lunatone! Dodge, then circle Mars and come back around with an Ice Beam!”
Lunatone circled a red planet and then nailed Espeon with an Ice Beam. It didn’t freeze, but it looked like it did quite a bit of damage.
“Corphish, use Crabhammer again!” Corphish jumped up to the planets with another Crabhammer at the ready.
“Solrock, get behind Neptune! Then come out and use Solarbeam!”
Solrock went behind a blue planet far out, then nailed Corphish with a Solarbeam.
“Espeon, give it a Shadow Ball!”
“Lunatone, Light Screen!”
Espeon’s Shadow Ball didn’t get through a yellow block wall Lunatone created.
“Okay, try an Iron Tail!” This time, Espeon’s Iron Tail shattered the Light Screen.
“What?! Lunatone, Ice Beam!” Lunatone fired an Ice Beam at Espeon.
“Espeon, Confusion!” Espeon caught the attack and formed a ball of ice with it. “Ed?”
“With pleasure! Corphish, Crabhammer!” Corphish jumped down and Crabhammered the ball of ice into Lunatone, knocking it into a yellow planet. Venus, I believe.
“Oh, no! Lunatone!”
“Don’t worry, Liza! I’ve got it covered! Solrock, Fire Spin!” Solrock’s Fire Spin caught both Espeon and Corphish, damaging them both and causing them to fall into the moon (I knew that one).
“Lunatone, use Tackle!” Lunatone’s Tackle nailed Espeon.
“Solrock, you use Tackle, too!” Solrock’s Tackle nailed Corphish.
“Espeon, Psybeam!” Espeon fired a Psybeam at Lunatone.
“Lunatone, loop around Mercury and use Tackle again!” Lunatone dodged, went around a semi-red planet, and rammed into Espeon.
“Corphish, Sludge Bomb!” Corphish fired a Sludge Bomb at Solrock.
“Dodge, then loop around Saturn’s rings into a Tackle!” Solrock went around the rings of a brownish planet, then hit Corphish. The two were on a giant orange planet (Jupiter, I’ve learned), waiting while Lunatone and Solrock looped around constantly.
“Well, it looks like we’ve got you two in a bind! We know the field and the planets inside and out! You ready to give up?” Tate asked.
“No way! We’re going to win this!” Ed said.
“Well, if you insist, but we’re not showing any mercy! I guess it’s true, you have to hurt the ones you love!” Liza said, winking at me.
I stood there, flustered, and thought: All right, I’ve had enough of this. Time to put these two in their place. But how? They know the field and the planets’ positions like their own names!...so how about we mix things up a little bit! “Espeon, use Psybeam again!”
“Lunatone, dodge! Then loop around Pluto and give them an Ice Beam!” Lunatone dodged Espeon’s Psybeam, then went toward a small planet.
“Now, Espeon! Use Psychic on Pluto!” Espeon grabbed Pluto with Psychic, then flung it at Lunatone. Taking a massive hit, Lunatone careened into Venus.
“What the heck?!” Liza asked, shocked.
“Thought so! You two know this field just like it is, so if Espeon can mix things around, you’re at a huge disadvantage!” I said.
“Way to go, Mike! Corphish, use Bubblebeam!” Ed said.
“Uh-oh! Solrock, dodge behind Earth!” Solrock dodged Corphish’s Bubblebeam by moving behind Earth. “Now use Solarbeam!”
“Time for an eclipse! Espeon, Psychic!” Espeon used Psychic to move the planets into alignment with Solrock, causing it to block the light and preventing Solarbeam. “You’re up!” I said to Ed.
“Okay! Corphish! Use Crabhammer on the top!”
“Corphish! CORPHISH!” Corphish said as it slammed down on the top planet. Like dominoes, they rammed into each other until ramming into Solrock.
“Corphish! Finish this up with Crabhammer!” Corphish leapt at Solrock and slammed it into the ground with Crabhammer.
“Huh?! No, wait!” Liza said. Lunatone was in mid-air, and Espeon was on the moon, looking down at it.
“Sorry Liza, but love is fickle! Espeon! Finish this up with Giga Impact!”
“Espe-ON!” Espeon shouted as it dove into Lunatone with a Giga Impact. I thought I saw a comet around Espeon, but it must’ve been an effect from the Gym. Anyway, Solrock had managed to get up, but seconds later, Lunatone crashed into it, and both Pokémon fainted.
“Lunatone and Solrock! Both Pokémon are unable to battle! Espeon and Corphish are the winners, and victory in this match goes to the team of Mike and Ed!” Rachel said.
“Yeah! Way to go, Espeon!”
“You were awesome, Corphish!”
“Good job, you guys!” Mark called from the stands.
“Lunatone, you were awesome!” Liza said to Lunatone.
“You too, Solrock! Take a good rest,” Tate said to Solrock. “Man, you guys are just incredible! Your skills are amazing!”
“And your teamwork is just AWESOME!” Liza said, obviously still infatuated with me.
“Uh, thank you both! But your strategy really threw us there for a while!” I said.
“And YOUR teamwork was incredible, too!” Ed added.
“Well, thanks for that. I’m sure that you’ll become great Pokémon Masters. It is with pride that we present you with Mind Badges, proof of your victory here at the Mossdeep Gym!” Tate said. He and Liza gave us badges that looked like hearts with a hole in the middle.
“We did it, Ed!”
“Not a doubt!”
“WE WON THE MIND BADGE!” we said together.
With another Gym Battle, and another badge to add to the collection, I had taken another giant step on the way to the Hoenn League.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 39: On Zapdos’ Wings
“Take care, Ed. It’s been a lot of fun.”
“You too. Maybe I’ll be able to come to the Ever Grande Conference! And Mark, good luck in Pacifidlog, and hopefully the Grand Festival!”
“Thanks, Ed! Bye!”
We were seeing Ed off as he made his way back to Lilycove. He was going to explore western Hoenn. Mark and I were going south to Sootopolis City for my eighth Gym battle, then west to Pacifidlog Town for Mark’s fifth Contest. If Mark was able to win there, then we would head to Slateport City for the Hoenn Grand Festival, which Alexis, Olivia, and my parents agreed to come to. With our experience with Liza and Tate behind us, we were ready to go. The only problem was that the ferry to Sootopolis took two weeks, and the Grand Festival was exactly one week away. The only solution was to fly there with Zapdos, no matter how much attention that attracted. We would’ve used Aerodactyl, but it wasn’t exactly big enough, so we went with Zapdos. Getting Zapdos ready to take off, Mark was expressing astonishment that what I told him about New Mauville was true.
“I mean, to think that YOU survived that kind of electrocution! That’s impossible! And Zapdos aren’t exactly easy to beat!”
“Tell that to Espeon and its Giga Impact,” I replied. “Ready to go?”
“Yeah, I guess.”
We got onto Zapdos’ back, and it took off to the south. The view of the ocean from that high altitude was even more beautiful than I’d thought. We flew a couple of hours, and while we flew, we saw several Fearow, a giant bird Pokémon, some Butterfree, a butterfly Pokémon, and I could’ve sworn I saw Steven riding a flying Metagross in the distance. As I focused in, they disappeared, so I regarded it as an illusion.
“Anyway, what Pokémon do you think you’ll use? The Gym Leader uses Water-types,” Mark said.
“Hmm, I’ll definitely use Zapdos, then. I think Girafarig’s new move in addition to its Thunder shoud do fine…”
“Careful, little brother. What if there’s a dual-Ground Type?”
“I have a plan for that, believe me.”
“Okay. Well, let’s speed things up a bit!”
“Roger. Yah, Trick! YAH!”
“Dude, don’t plagiarize Olivia!”
Zapdos sped up as we passed over some rock formations. I also saw a flock of Swablu and Altaria fly by, as well as some Seel and Dewgong on the rocks below. There was even a Skarmory flying about. On it was a familiar figure, Winona!
“Winona?! What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Hey, Mike! Good to see you again! So, I assume you won another badge?”
“Yup! Oh, this is my brother Mark!”
“Nice to meet you!”
“Likewise, Ms. Winona!” Mark said. “You headed to Sootopolis as well?”
“That’s right! I have some business there with…an old acquaintance of mine! Let’s race there, you guys!” She said, as if dodging the subject.
“SKAR!” Skarmory said as it sped ahead.
“Okay, let’s kick it into high gear!” I responded, confident as ever.
“DOS!” Zapdos responded.
“Need I remind you that you have a passenger aboaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!” Mark said as we sped up. Racing with Winona, I felt the wind against me and knew what it was to be a Flying-type Pokémon. Feeling the freedom of the skies, and seeing the world below, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Looking ahead of me, I found a giant rock formation with what looked like buildings coming out of it. “THERRRRRE’S SOOTOPOLIIIIIIIIS CITYYYYYYYY!” Mark screamed.
“Wow, that didn’t really take long, did it?” I asked. “Okay, let’s dive in!” We flew in through the top. People were shocked and ran, and so we landed in the middle of the square. I still don’t know how Winona managed to beat us.
“Well, this place certainly got a lot livelier!” Winona said.
“Well, I’m gonna go liven things up a little more,” Mark said as he wobbled to the nearest trash can.
Later, Winona, Mark and I took our Pokémon to the Pokémon Center to be healed up. While the three of us were waiting, she told me everything about her and a man named Wallace.
“We were together for a while, but then it just ended. He and I just got more and more involved with our Gyms, but he got stronger, and I didn’t exactly like the idea of being with someone stronger than me. Anyway, the reason I came here is because he sent me a message saying he had something for me. He asked me to come to the Gym to get it, and although it was a struggle for me for a while, I thought it might be all right to come see him again, and maybe reminisce a bit. I still feel a little awkward about the idea, but-”
“We’ll come with you if you want!” I said.
“If you have us with you, you’ll feel at ease knowing that we’ve got your back! Besides, I needed to go to the Gym as well!”
“Well, all right. Thank you both!”
“Our pleasure,” Mark said. “It looks like the Pokémon are ready. Now, Mike. Tell me about this secret move of Girafarig’s.”
Later, the three of us were at a giant mansion. I knocked on the door, and an old butler answered. “Greetings, Miss Winona. Lovely to see you again! And who are your young friends?”
“Hello, Sebastian! These are the McCarver brothers, Mark and Mike! Mike wants to battle Wallace, and I need to speak with him!”
“Oh,” Sebastian said. “Well, I…please follow me.” He led us through the mansion, which was decorated with sculptures of Water Pokémon and many paintings. We made our way to a lounge, where a man looking like a French artist with a blue coat and black hair sat. “Master Juan, we have visitors!”
“Ah, yes! Winona, good to see you! Wallace told me you would come!” the man named Juan said.
“Good to see you as well, Mr. Juan! Tell me, is Wallace here?”
“Well, he retired the Gym some months ago, so I’m the Gym Leader again! However, he asked me to give you this,” Juan said as he gave here a little red box. She opened it, and inside was a necklace with a charm of a Luvdisc, a Pokémon that looked like a heart. She picked up the necklace, closed her eyes, and smiled. Juan then turned to me and Mark. “Well, well! I’m so happy to see the two of you have begun your adventures with your Pokémon as well! Mark, Mike, you both look so much like your father, it’s frightening!”
“You know our father?” Mark asked.
“That’s right!” he said, holding out the golden Poke Ball patch.
“Wait, that looks like…” Mark said, turning to my hat.
“I’ll, uh…tell you later,” I replied quickly.
“Mark, I heard about your victory in Sinnoh. From one fellow artist and Coordinator to another, I salute you!” Juan said.
“Uh…uh, thank you…sir!” Mark said, probably feeling proud of himself for such a compliment.
“And Mike, I understand you’ve made quite a name for yourself as a Trainer! That must mean you’re here to challenge me today?”
“Yes, sir! This will be my eighth badge!”
“I expected no less from you McCarver boys. Very well, I accept! Come with me.”
At last, the final badge was right in my grasp. But despite his demeanor, I could tell that Juan was definitely no pushover. I had to be on my guard and ready for anything.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 40: The Rain Badge in Spain
We made our way to the Gym, which was a giant room with a pool and ice floes in the center. Mark and Winona went to the bleachers, while Sebastian took two flags and made his way to the center podium on the side. I took my place on the left, and Juan on the right. “This official battle between Juan, Leader of the Sootopolis City Gym, and Mike, the challenger from Littleroot Town, will now begin! Each trainer will be allotted the use of five Pokémon in a two-round match, and only the challenger may make substitutions! The first round will be a double battle, and the round will end when the Gym Leader’s two Pokémon are unable to continue! Then, the field and positions shall change, and the second round will be a single battle! The match will end when all of either Trainer’s remaining Pokémon are unable to continue! Begin!” Sebastian said.
“Sealeo, Seaking! Let’s go!” Juan said as he sent out a Seaking and a Sealeo, a Pokémon that looked like a sea lion.
“Metagross, Zapdos! Let’s do it!” I said as I sent out Metagross and Zapdos.
“My, what powerful-looking Pokémon! Sealeo, Aurora Beam! Seaking, Hyper Beam!” Sealeo fired out a rainbow beam at Zapdos while Seaking fired a Hyper Beam at Metagross.
“Metagross, intercept! And Zapdos, counter with Thunder!” Metagross caught the attacks, not taking much damage. However, Zapdos’ Thunder overpowered Sealeo and zapped it.
“Sealeo, Sheer Cold!” Sealeo fired a single ball of frost at Zapdos.
“Zapdos, dodge it!” Zapdos tried to fly out of the way, but the attack hit the tip of Zapdos’ wing and froze Zapdos entirely. When the ice broke, Zapdos was knocked out.
“Zapdos is unable to battle!” Sebastian said.
“Zapdos, return!” I said. “Don’t worry, you did great! Medicham, you’re up!” I sent out Medicham, who immediately adopted poses on Metagross’ back.
“Interesting. Sealeo, use Ice Ball! Seaking, Horn Drill!” Sealeo launched a ball of ice at my Pokémon while Seaking leapt at them with a Horn Drill.
“Another One-Hit KO Move? Please! Medicham, Psychic! Metagross, Thunderpunch!” Metagross dodged the Ice Ball and, with Medicham on its back, leapt at Seaking. Medicham was using Psychic to hold Seaking in place while Metagross nailed it with a series of Thunderpunches. What I found surprising was that Metagross could do that while levitating over the water.
“Sealeo, help Seaking! Ice Ball!” Sealeo fired a bigger Ice Ball at Medicham.
“Medicham, Confusion!” Medicham used Confusion to catch the Ice Ball and redirect it toward Seaking. The attack nailed Seaking, then knocked it out.
“Seaking is unable to battle!” Sebastian said. Juan returned Seaking to its Poke Ball, but commanded Sealeo without missing a beat.
“Sealeo, Ice Ball again!” Sealeo fired an even bigger Ice Ball at Metagross.
“Medicham, Metagross! Double Brick Break!” The two broke the Ice Ball with Brick Breaks. They lost momentum, but kept going.
“Another Ice Ball, please!” Sealeo fired an Ice Ball bigger than the other three. This time, Medicham dodged, but the attack hit Metagross, causing it to fall into the water. Medicham was left alone on an ice floe.
“Rrgh! I’ve got to get Medicham out of there! Metagross is underwater, and…wait, I’ve got it!”
“Final Ice Ball, Sealeo!” Sealeo charged up a gigantic Ice Ball.
“Medicham, Meditate!” Medicham levitated. “Metagross, if you can hear me, use Earthquake!” Out of nowhere, everything started to rumble. The water shook, and so too did Sealeo to the point where its Ice Ball misfired. and hit the ceiling, causing an icicle to form.
“What’s this?!” Juan said, surprised.
“Medicham, finish it off with Dynamicpunch!” Medicham’s Dynamicpunch knocked Sealeo below, and it resurfaced belly-up.
“Sealeo is unable to battle! Medicham and Metagross are the winners, and this round goes to the challenger, Mike!”
“Way to go, you guys!”
“Meta!” Metagross said as it came out of the water.
“Sealeo, excellent work. Take a good rest. Excellent strategy, Mike!” Juan said.
“Thank you, Juan! You were great, too!” I said as I returned Medicham and Metagross to their Poke Balls. We then swapped sides as the field changed to a land-based field with a river and some statues.
“Now, the remainder of this official battle shall be a single battle! Trainers, select your Pokémon!”
“Luvdisc, let’s go!”
“Espeon, I choose you!”
He sent out a Luvdisc and I sent out Espeon.
“Espeon, use Psychic!” Espeon’s Psychic lifted Luvdisc into the air.
“Luvdisc, Attract!” Luvdisc winked, sending out pink hearts that circled Espeon. When they hit, Espeon started to act weird; it lowered Luvdisc to the ground!
“Espeon, c’mon! Snap out of it! Use Psybeam!” Espeon wouldn’t move.
“Espe…” it said, entirely ga-ga over Luvdisc.
“Bro, call Espeon back! Attract’s effect will wear off!” Mark shouted.
Before I could grab my Poke Ball, Juan said, “Luvdisc, Hydro Pump!” Luvdisc fired a Hydro Pump at Espeon, scoring a critical hit.
“No, Espeon! Use Giga Impact!” Espeon, even though it was still mesmerized, charged forward with a Giga Impact.
“Luvdisc, Sweet Kiss!” Luvdisc sent out another glowing pink heart from its mouth, which hit Espeon and caused it to change course. It rammed into a totem pole-like statue and slumped to the ground.
“Espeon is unable to battle! Luvdisc is the winner!” Sebastian said, raising the red flag.
“Well done, my friend,” Juan said.
“Luvdisc!” the Pokémon replied.
“Espeon, we’ll win this one for you,” I said to it in its Poke Ball. “Okay, Metagross! You’re up!” I said, sending out Metagross.
“Luvdisc, use Sweet Kiss!” Luvdisc sent out another Sweet Kiss.
“Metagross, Psychic!” Metagross’ Psychic cancelled out the Sweet Kiss and levitated Luvdisc.
“Luvdisc, use Attract!...wait, don’t!” But it was too late; Luvdisc sent out an Attract which hit Metagross, but it had no effect.
“Too bad, but Metagross is genderless! Metagross, use Thunderpunch!” Metagross’ Thunderpunch nailed Luvdisc. “Now grab it and spin!” Metagross grabbed Luvdisc and began to spin around in the air.
“Luvdisc, try to break free!” Juan said. However, the spin was too much for Luvdisc.
“Now, Metagross! Reverse Release!” Metagross stopped, let go and sent Luvdisc careening into the ground. When the dust from the impact cleared, Luvdisc had passed out.
“Luvdisc is unable to battle! Metagross is the winner!” Sebastian said, raising the green flag.
“Way to go, Metagross!”
“Meta!” Metagross replied happily.
“Awesome job, Mike!” Winona called from the stands.
“Luvdisc, you were excellent. Take a rest,” Juan said. “Well, Mike! You certainly have technique! I can see your father in you more and more! Now then, Whiscash! Come on out!” Juan sent out a Whiscash, a giant blue fish Pokémon with two long, yellow whiskers.
“Okay, Metagross! The bigger they are, the harder they fall! Use Thunderpunch!” I said.
“NO! THAT’S ONE OF THE POKÉMON I WARNED YOU ABOUT!” Mark called out.
“Whuh-oh! Stop!” I said. However, the attack connected, but did nothing. “You’re right, Whiscash is a Ground-Type!”
“Whiscash, use Magnitude!” Whiscash sent out a powerful earthquake-like attack, causing major damage to Metagross.
“Metagross, Zen Headbutt!” Metagross’s Zen Headbutt didn’t do much either.
“Finish it with Mud Shot!” Whiscash’s Mud Shot nailed Metagross and caused it to pass out.
“Metagross is unable to battle! Whiscash is the winner!” Sebastian said, raising the red flag.
“Great job, Metagross! Take a rest,” I said, returning it to its Ball.
“Mike, if you really thought I wasn’t going to come prepared for electricity, you’re going to have a hard time beating me!” Juan said.
“Actually, I did.”
“A good Pokémon trainer needs to be prepared for anything, right? So you came prepared for electricity, and I came prepared to beat that! Medicham, go!” I sent out Medicham, who looked slightly fatigued. “Use Psychic!” Medicham’s Psychic lifted Whiscash into the air. “Send it flying and use Recover!” Medicham sent Whiscash out a ways and used Recover to get back on top. However, Medicham then got nailed by a Hydro Pump from Whiscash. “No!”
“Now, Whiscash! Use Hyper Beam!” Whiscash sent out a Hyper Beam at Medicham.
“Like I said, we’re prepared! Medicham, Confusion!” Medicham’s Confusion sent the attack right back.
“Well done! Whiscash, use Surf then Rock Smash!” Whiscash rode a wave to dodge, then jumped off it towards Medicham.
“Medicham, Detect!” Medicham dodged at the last second. “Now use Energy Ball!” Medicham fired an Energy Ball at Whiscash. It didn’t look big, but the attack did massive damage to Whiscash.
“What the-?!” Juan said, astounded.
“If you think you’re the only one prepared for anything, you’re going to have a hard time beating me! Medicham! Finish it with Dynamicpunch!” Medicham nailed Whiscash with a Dynamicpunch, sending it into a totem pole statue and knocking it out.
“Whiscash is unable to battle! Medicham is the winner!” Sebastian said, raising the green flag.
“Good job, Medicham! That was ace!”
“You know, you’re going to have to tell me where these Pokémon learned to do all those attacks!” Mark shouted.
“Whiscash, you’ve earned yourself a good rest,” Juan said. “I must say, I didn’t expect that! Well done! However, you won’t get past my long-time friend and partner! Milotic, go!” He sent out a Milotic.
“That seems to be a common Pokémon among Coordinators,” I noted. “Medicham, Energy Ball!”
“Milotic, Twister!” Milotic’s Twister nailed Medicham before it could use Energy Ball. “Now use Hydro Pump!” The Hydro Pump came too soon for me to call out a Confusion. The attacks caused Medicham to fall into the river.
“Medicham is unable to battle! Milotic is the winner!” Sebastian said, raising the red flag.
“What?! So quickly?” I exclaimed, astonished. I then returned Medicham to its Poke Ball. “Great job, take a rest. Okay, this is it! Time to win our last badge! Girafarig, showtime!” I sent out Girafarig, who looked totally ready.
“Milotic, use Hydro Pump!” Milotic fired a Hydro Pump at Girafarig.
“Girafarig, Mirror Coat!” Girafarig intercepted the attack and fired it back with double damage.
“Dodge and use Twister!” Milotic went underwater to dodge and fired a Twister from its tail, nailing Girafarig in the head. I started to think of what I could do. That’s when I thought of the icicle that had been formed on the ceiling.
“Girafarig, use Psybeam!” Girafarig fired a Psybeam, but it missed.
“Milotic, use another Hydro Pump!” Milotic fired a Hydro Pump.
“Girafarig, use Confusion!” Girafarig used Confusion to catch the attack and throw it back. However, Milotic dodged again by going into the water. “Rrgh, try that move we’ve been working on! Charge Beam!” Girafarig fired an electric beam at Milotic as it resurfaced, and it seemed to do quite a bit of damage. “Way to go! We’ve mastered it!”
“Rig!” Girafarig responded.
“Use Recover,” Juan said calmly. Milotic recovered its energy. “Now use Twister again!” Milotic used Twister.
“Dodge and use Stomp!” Girafarig jumped into the air and tried to Stomp on Milotic’s head.
“Dodge by going underwater!” Milotic dodged.
“C’mon, you’re getting nowhere like this! You’ve got to try something else!” Mark called out.
No way, I thought. This plan WILL work if we can hold out a little longer.
“Mike, I’m impressed you’ve lasted this long, but it ends here! Milotic, use Water Pulse!” Milotic fired a Water Pulse at Girafarig.
“Dodge it!” I said, then Girafarig dodged. I was about to issue another command when I heard a slight crack. Looking up at the now slightly cracked icicle, I said, “Girafarig, Charge Beam towards the ceiling!” Girafarig fired it upward. Juan looked confused, but then he saw the Charge Beam hit the icicle. It then fell from the ceiling, right over Milotic.
“Milotic, in the water!” Milotic submerged to dodge the icicle.
“Now, Girafarig! Stick your head in the water and use Thunder, full power!” Girafarig stuck its head in the water, and next thing I knew, the water was sparking. After the electricity subsided, Milotic emerged, severely damaged.
“Oh, no! Milotic, Recover!”
“Oh no you don’t! Girafarig, full power Charge Beam!” Girafarig fired a massive Charge Beam at Milotic, stopping the Recover and causing Milotic to faint.
“Milotic is unable to battle! Girafarig is the winner, and victory in this match goes to Mike from Littleroot Town!” Sebastian said.
“We won! WE DID IT! You were awesome, Girafarig!” I jumped down from my position and hugged Girafarig’s neck.
“Rig! Rig!” Girafarig replied happily.
Juan returned Milotic to its Poke Ball. “I’m very proud of you, old friend. You did well.” He then came over to me and Girafarig. “Mike, that was simply amazing. Using every aspect of the battle to your advantage was a clever technique! And your bonds with your Pokémon are simply amazing! It reminds me of when I was a Trainer at your age. I see nothing but a bright future for you in the Hoenn League Championship! It is with great pride that I present you with this Rain Badge, proof of your victory here at the Sootopolis Gym!” He handed me a badge that looked like a triangle of water drops.
“Thank you very much! Yeah! WE WON THE FINAL BADGE: THE RAIN BADGE!”
“You did awesome, Mike! Best of luck in the Championship!” Winona said, giving me a hug.
“And Mark, here’s hope for you in the Grand Festival!” Juan said, shaking Mark’s hand.
“Thank you!” We said.
Finally, I’d won all eight of my badges! Now, it was nothing but smooth sailing towards the upcoming Hoenn League Championships in Ever Grande City. We left that day with hope in our hearts, and confidence for Mark’s upcoming Contests.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 41: Showdown at the SC Grand Festival
“Well, Mr. GREAT SEPHIOD, you did it again. Another Ribbon for you!”
“Well, you didn’t make it easy, little brother,” Mark replied, dressed up as The Great Sephiod.
“Yeah, well, it would’ve been more worth it for you to have EARNED the ribbon, and I wanted the opportunity to battle you-”
“And you lost.”
“Whatever. Anyway, this ship’s taking us to Slateport?”
“That’s right! All the competitors for the Grand Festival are on board.”
After we left Sootopolis City, Mark and I had made our way to Pacifidlog Town so Mark could earn his fifth Contest Ribbon. However, I wanted to make sure he earned it, so Espeon and I entered as well. Mark and I ended up competing in the final stage with Espeon against Umbreon, but Mark ended up winning (how he won is not important right now). Anyway, we were on a boat that took the Coordinators and their guests to Slateport City where the Grand Festival was going to be held. As soon as we landed in Slateport, we were attacked by the paparazzi. Surprisingly, reporters asked me just as many questions as they did Mark. Anyway, we made our way out and to the hotel where we were going to be staying. When we got up to our room, Mark and I were greeted with hugs from Olivia and I was greeted with a slap from Alexis. On the balcony, we argued for a while about the whole Zapdos incident while Olivia checked out the view and Mark talked with Mom and Dad inside.
“I’M MAD BECAUSE YOU COULD’VE BEEN KILLED!” Alexis shouted.
“Would it hurt to say that had it not been for a special orb I found, I WOULD’VE been?” She just glared. “I’ll take that as a yes. Look, I was helping Wattson! Plus, who knows what kind of destruction Zapdos would’ve spread while messed up?”
“Look, Mike. You need to be more careful! I couldn’t stand the thought of losing you!” she argued.
“Come on! You think I’d be hurt, or kidnapped, or something like that?! Believe me, I can handle whatever happens!” That’s when I felt a clamp at my stomach, and it dragged me into the air. It was Ashley and Olson, who were in another hovercraft. “ME AND MY BIG MOOOOOUUTH!” I shouted as they lifted me about twenty stories into the air.
“Well, runt! Looks like you’re going on a little trip!” Ashley said.
“You’re coming with us to the boss, and we’ll be taking all your Pokémon!” Olson added.
“Rrgh, can’t move!” I said, unable to reach my Poke Balls.
“GIVE HIM BACK RIGHT NOW!” I heard Alexis shout.
“How the role has reversed! It’s that girly I kidnapped way back when!” Olson said.
“Sorry, but your boyfriend belongs with us now! Say goodbye, runt!” Ashley said.
“Whatever you say. ‘Goodbye, runt!’ ” Alexis said mockingly. Next thing I knew, the hovercraft was blasted with a Hyper Beam.
“TEAM ROCKET’S BLASTING OFF TOO SOON!” they said as they went flying away. Luckily, the clamp loosened enough for me to get out of it while in free fall, so I grabbed the Master Ball.
“Deoxys, use Psychic!” I said as I sent Deoxys out. It caught me with its Psychic.
“Man, that was close! You okay?” Deoxys asked.
“Yeah, but who fired that Hyper Beam?” I asked. That’s when I saw Alexis and Mightyena. “Alexis, that…that was amazing!”
“Uh…thanks!” she said as she turned away.
“So, who wants to go for a flight?” Deoxys said. Alexis turned back, curious. Next thing I knew, me, Deoxys, Alexis and Olivia were flying through the sky, laughing all the way. We kept following the movements Deoxys made in a row as if we were synchronized swimmers. Soon after that, we returned to the others at the hotel.
The next day, we all went to the contest hall where the Grand Festival was to be held. We were sitting in the stands, watching the performances. To my surprise, I saw Robert and his Milotic perform. I decided that if I ran into him, I’d try to catch up. Then, Mark went on stage. Vivian, the MC, and the four judges looked ready for his performance.
“Umbreon, action!” He said as he sent Umbreon out. “Use Swift, then Psychic!” Umbreon fired a Swift into the air, then brought it all back together into one star with Psychic. “Now, finish up with Faint Attack!” Umbreon leapt at the stars with a Faint Attack and caused them to explode, shimmers going in all directions.
“Absolutely beautiful! The aftereffect of multiple Swifts sparkling creates quite a spectacle! Let’s see what our judges think!” Sure enough, the judges gave Mark a 100. “A perfect score! That’s the second today! I guess we know who a favorite is! That’s ‘the Great Sephiod’, everybody!” she said.
I sighed to myself, thinking: This isn’t Sinnoh; he doesn’t need a tux and mask OR another name. Ah well, I guess that’s why HE’S the Coordinator. Later on, I was at a practice field working with Golduck on attacks. Upon finally mastering its Blizzard, we decided to wrap it up for the day. I joined Mark at his practice field, and discussed Alexis and her reactions with him.
“Well, she’s right; that Zapdos mishap AND the Mt. Pyre incident AND the shuttle fiasco were pretty dangerous. You’re pretty reckless, but just try to be safe from now on, man. Relationships can be tough,” he said as he walked back to the hotel. I contemplated what he said that night, and finally went to Alexis’ room and knocked on her door.
“Who is it?” she asked.
“It’s me. Look, I’m sorry, Alexis. You’re right: I really shouldn’t get involved in reckless stuff like all that. Otherwise I’m a danger to myself and those around me. Also, I took it horribly and it was wrong of me to yell at you. I really want to put this behind us. Think we can?”
She came out and said: “Well, I think I was wrong, too. I mean, you need to get a LITTLE involved in some things in life. Especially when constantly dealing with Team Rocket. I just worry about you and how you’re always doing dangerous things…I don’t want to think about you getting seriously hurt or worse. So try not to do anything extremely crazy or life-threatening, ‘k?” she asked as she gave me a kiss on my scar.
“ ‘K,” I replied. We smiled, kissed again, said goodnight, and went back to our rooms. I could’ve sworn I heard her say something like, ‘Olivia, hand over that video camera’. But I digress.
The next day, Mark had another appeal round to determine the Top 32. His appeal with Ninetales using nine Will-o-Wisps, enhancing and gathering them onto all nine of its tails with Fire Spin, and evaporating them all with Toxic went over well. Robert’s appeal with his Claydol went just as well. Both of them made it to the top 32. As the days progressed, Mark and Robert climbed to the top of the ladder. Meanwhile, Alexis and I successfully managed to teach Mightyena a move called Fire Fang, a fire-based biting attack. We were able to see Mark and Robert facing off in the final match on the last day.
“All right, it’s down to these last two fabulous Coordinators! You boys have five minutes on the clock, and the winner goes home with the prestigious Ribbon Cup! Begin!”
“Milotic, Claydol! Let’s go!”
“Umbreon, Empoleon! Action!”
They sent out their Pokémon, then the five minutes began.
“Claydol, use Ice Beam!” Claydol fired an Ice Beam at Umbreon.
“Umbreon, Psychic! Empoleon, Steel Wing!” Umbreon caught the attack and formed a ball of ice with it. Empoleon used a Steel Wing copter to break it up into shards, then Umbreon fired it back at Claydol, costing Robert some points.
“Milotic, use Twister! Claydol, another Ice Beam!” Milotic used a Twister while Claydol’s Ice Beam made gave it an arctic chill. Empoleon was hardly affected, but Umbreon suffered a little, causing Mark to lose points.
“Umbreon, use Confuse Ray on both of them!” Umbreon’s Confuse Ray went out toward the pair.
“Claydol, Rapid Spin! Milotic, Twister!” Claydol used Rapid Spin to block the attack. Milotic, however, couldn’t stop Confuse Ray with Twister, so it got confused and started to hit Claydol with its tail.
“Milotic, no! Use Hydro Pump!” Milotic, by accident, used Hydro Pump on Empoleon. Mark lost points.
“Huh?!” I exclaimed.
“EMPOLEON!” it said as it unleashed giant snowballs at Claydol. Apparently, it was an Ice-Type move that did more damage if the user was just attacked, working just like Rock Slide. The attack knocked Claydol into the back wall, causing Robert’s points to drop drastically.
“Claydol, Hyper Beam!” Claydol fired a Hyper Beam at Umbreon, but it dodged, docking a few more of Robert’s points.
“Umbreon, Empoleon, let’s finish this up! Shadow Ball and Water Pulse!” The two attacks spiraled into their targets; the Shadow Ball knocked Milotic back, but the Water Pulse KOed Claydol. I heard a buzzing sound from the judges, causing Robert’s points to drop by half and Robert to call Claydol back.
“Milotic, come on! Use Hydro Pump!” Milotic snapped out of its confusion and hit Umbreon with a full-power Hydro Pump. “Now, Twister and Hydro Pump together!” Milotic’s attacks fired a water cyclone attack at Umbreon, trapping it and dealing damage at the same time.
“Umbreon, no!” When the attack subsided, Umbreon passed out and the judges buzzed for it as well, and Mark’s points dropped by half. Upon returning Umberon to its Ball, Mark had only two minutes left.
“Milotic, use Hydro Pump!” Milotic nailed Empoleon with Hydro Pump, and Mark gradually lost points. We kept cheering for him from above, but Mark just seemed to lose his cool as Milotic kept using Hydro Pump after Hydro Pump.
“C’mon, Mark! You can’t let it shake you like this! Empoleon is a Water-Type! There’s no way Milotic can win! He came up with that water Twister combo, so you can make a comeback too! I know it!” Just then, Mark made a face as if a light bulb had turned on. He then looked my way and gave me a thumbs-up.
“You KNOW you know it! Empoleon, charge at Milotic!” Empoleon ran right at it. There was only one minute left.
“Milotic, use Twister and Hydro Pump together!” Robert said. Milotic fired the water spout again.
“Just what I wanted! Empoleon, use a spinning Aqua Jet!” Empoleon used Aqua Jet and dived right into the attack. It then began to speed through the attack like it was nothing.
“What the-?! NO!” Robert said.
“Wait, what’s happening?” Dad asked.
“Empoleon’s resisting the attack?!” Olivia guessed.
“…Of course! Empoleon’s Aqua Jet is acting as a shield! Since the Twister is merged with Hydro Pump, it’s a cyclone of water. In order to cruise right through with no problem, Empoleon would need to have water around it along with the proper motion to counter the force! Therefore, Milotic’s technique is useless now!” I said, smoking a pipe I’d snatched from Dad. Of course, he then snatched it back.
“Empoleon, Drill Peck!” Spinning through the Twister, Empoleon used Drill Peck to hit Milotic. “Now finish it with Flash Cannon!” Empoleon fired a white beam of light at Milotic, causing it to pass out. The judges hit the buzzers, and that was it.
“That’s it! With a series of attacks from Empoleon, Milotic is out! That costs Robert the rest of his points, and this year’s Grand Festival Champion is The Great Sephiod!” Vivian said. Confetti flew everywhere, and the rest of us ran onto the field to congratulate Mark. After the acclaim and congratulations, Mark went up to the stage with Umbreon, Empoleon, Ninetales, Breloom, Mime Jr., and Aerodactyl. He received the Ribbon Cup from Mr. Contesta and then waved to the crowd along with all his Pokémon. Later that evening, after the celebration party, we were at the docks, getting onto two different ships. Before that, we went to see Mark off; Umbreon and Empoleon were at his side, and Espeon and Mightyena were at our side.
“So, where will you head next?” I asked.
“Well, I need to go see Professor Rowan in Sinnoh, then I figure I’m going to try out the Johto region next. Just be sure to keep up with your training, and good luck in Ever Grande City! I’ll be rooting for you!” he said as he held out his hand.
“Thanks. Good luck in Johto,” I said as I shaked it.
Our Pokémon exchanged their farewells also. Then, Mark and his Pokémon got on the ship and we waved him off until he was out of sight. We then departed for our boat to Rustboro City.
“So, tell me why you’re not going to Ever Grande right now?” Olivia asked.
“Well, it’s not quite that time yet. Besides, I want to check out the Meteor Falls!” I said while looking around. When my eyes met contact with Dad’s, we made the same eyebrow raise. He had given me a PWE assignment to go to the Meteor Falls the night before.
“That makes sense. After that, will you be coming home?” Alexis asked.
“I’m not sure; depends on how long I’m at Meteor Falls.”
“*sigh*…all right, just remember: BE SAFE!”
“All right, all right! Yeesh!”
At our destination, the others left for Littleroot Town, while I made my way northwest to complete my assignment. Hopefully, after that, I could go back home and rest up before finally entering the Ever Grande Conference.

Re: Pokemon: Legend of the Blessed Aura (Hoenn)
Chapter 42: Articuno in Meteor Falls
At last, I’d arrived at Meteor Falls, the mountain north of Rustboro City. Dad had given me an assignment two days before:
“Our intelligence has reported several Pokémon going insane at Meteor Falls and attacking other Pokémon. There are also reports of the temperature around the mountain dropping. We believe Team Rocket to be connected in some way. Go there and try to stop this from getting any worse.”
So, I had to just go in, find out what was creating all this havoc, and put a stop to it. Easy. I entered a cavern to find ice everywhere. There were several frozen Pokémon, so I had Deoxys break them out with Focus Punch. According to one of them, there was a Pokémon named Articuno who was freezing everything in sight. “Hmm, Articuno, huh?” I said as I got out my Pokedex.
“Articuno, the Freeze Pokémon. Articuno’s wings are like thin sheets of ice. It is believed that Articuno has the ability to freeze water vapor and create snow.”
“Huh, with a Pokémon like that, it’s no wonder it’s so cold in here.” I looked around for a while, until I heard Deoxys call me.
“Mike, hurry! Get over here!”
“What is it, Deoxys?”
“It’s Ed! Look!”
“What?!” I came over. Sure enough, Ed was frozen solid in a block of ice. “Get him out of there!”
“Can do!” Deoxys said as it struck with Focus Punch. Later, after Arcanine heated things up again, Ed came back to consciousness. We got caught up and warmed up before discussing what to do next.
“So, what do you think?” I asked.
“What do I think?! I think I’m going to bring that Pokémon back to reality and then catch it!” Ed replied.
“Are you kidding? It’s difficult to capture one of those Pokémon! Hell, I only captured Zapdos by luck!”
“Still, it’s really incredible! And you know I love incredible Pokémon! Which reminds me,” he said as he got out a Poke Ball, “Check it out! I traded my Volbeat for this!” He threw out a Poke Ball, and out came a yellow-brownish mouse-like Pokémon with lightning-bolt like ears and a long black tail with a miniature lightning bolt at the end. I got my Pokedex out again.
“Raichu, the Mouse Pokémon. It is able to shock with over 100,000 volts. When the electricity accumulated in Raichu’s cheeks reach a maximum, its ears will become pointed.”
“Wow, an Electric Pokémon! And it looks really cool, too!” I said as I scratched its head.
“Rai! Rai!” the Pokémon replied happily.
“So, what brings you here?” Ed said.
“I came here to find out why this has been happening. Once I’m done, I’m going to Ever Grande City.”
“That’s awesome! I wish I could come with you, but I’ve got to go back to Lilycove because of…some family issues.”
“Don’t worry! I know you’ll be with me in spirit! Anyway, let’s go find Articuno!”
We then set out, with Raichu using Flash to guide us through the caves. There were several Snorunt and Glalie, which was weird, considering their habitat was the Shoal Cave back in Mossdeep City. I then saw an Absol who was watching us from above. It then leapt ahead of us and walked in the direction we were going. As we went, a Bagon, a hard-headed Dragon Pokémon, joined it in leading us. Soon, a Solrock and a Lunatone that we had freed joined us as well. We made our way up the waterfall with Solrock and Lunatone’s help. Soon, we went into the coldest cavern in the mountain. The Solrock and Bagon used Fire Spin and Ember to heat things up, and the room became warmer as a result.
“GYAOOOO!” I heard. I turned to see Articuno right near us. Deoxys, Raichu, and Absol rushed to the front against it. Articuno fired a Water Pulse to shake them all off. By this time, the other Pokémon had run away.
“Deoxys, use Constrict!” Deoxys wrapped its tentacles around Articuno. Articuno struggled, then flew around, slamming Deoxys into the walls.
“Raichu, use Thunderbolt!” Ed said as soon as Deoxys released Articuno. Raichu zapped Articuno with a Thunderbolt, but it looked unfazed. Absol rushed around Articuno and fired a Flamethrower, causing some damage. Articuno then hit them both with Icy Wind.
“Deoxys, Focus Punch!” Deoxys’ Focus Punch simply met Articuno’s Steel Wing in a stalemate. Absol then fired a Razor Wind at Articuno, breaking the stalemate. Articuno then fell asleep and glowed with a blue light.
“No! It’s using Rest to recover its energy!” Deoxys said.
“Oh, yeah? Deoxys, Dream Eater!” Deoxys sent out a Normal Forme clone which struck Articuno’s head, sapping energy away. Articuno woke up, enraged. It then nailed Deoxys’ arm with Steel Wing which, to my horror, completely disintegrated.
“Don’t worry. My structure is unstable and vulnerable to powerful attacks, but I can quickly regenerate lost tissue!” Deoxys said as it grew its arm back.
“Okay, WARN me next time! Anyway, give it a Zap Cannon!” Deoxy’s Zap Cannon completely crippled Articuno, but it still tried to get up. “I don’t get it! What’s making this thing continue to stand?!” That’s when I heard two familiar laughs, looked up, and said, “Hey, Team Rocket. So, you’re controlling Articuno just like you did Tentacruel?”
“AND using its powers to round up every last Pokémon in this mountain!” Ashley added, Misdreavus cackling next to her.
“Haunter, use Night Shade!” Haunter fired a Night Shade at us.
“How about a REAL Night Shade?!” Deoxys retorted as it fired a Night Shade to counter the other. The impact sent Team Rocket to our level.
“Try THIS! Go, Armaldo!” Ashley sent out an Armaldo, a bug-like Pokémon with wing-like blades for arms, a thick shell on its back, and two long eyes as well as two fake red eyes.
“Get ‘em, Cradily!” Olson sent out a Cradily, a Pokémon that looked like a big, green Lileep, but with eyes on the side of its head and a longer stem between its head and its body.
“No! Their Pokémon evolved!” I said as I got out my Pokedex.
“Armaldo, the Plate Pokémon. Armaldo is the evolved form of Anorith. When hunting for prey, it dives beneath the ocean, swimming around using its two large wings.”
“Cradily, the Barnacle Pokémon. Cradily is the evolved form of Lileep. When hunting for prey, it digs prey up from the beaches, ensnaring them using its eight tentacles.”
“Armaldo, X-Scissor!” Armaldo sliced crossways, hitting Deoxys with the edges of its arms.
“Cradily, Sludge Bomb!” Cradily nailed Deoxys with a Sludge Bomb.
“Deoxys, double Focus Punch!” Deoxys hit both Pokémon at the same time. Cradily looked hurt, but Armaldo looked unaffected. “It’s no good! Armaldo is too strong against that attack!”
“Mike, leave it to me! I’ve gotten better at this!” Ed said, bringing out another Poke Ball.
“Okay, what’s your plan?”
“Well, Armaldo and Cradily may be different types, but they both share a common weakness! I CHOOSE YOU, AGGRON!” He sent out a giant dinosaur-like Pokémon with armor.
“Whoa!” I said as I got the Pokedex back out.
“Aggron, the Iron Armor Pokémon. Aggron is the final evolved form of Aron. Aggron’s steel horns can destroy the firmest of bedrock and it digs tunnels as it looks for iron to eat.”
“Aggron, hit them both with Iron Tail and Metal Claw!” Aggron’s Iron Tail knocked Armaldo into a wall, and its Metal Claw brought Cradily to the ground, where Team Rocket was at this point. “Way to go! Now for the others!” Just then, an Ice Beam came out of nowhere and froze the six of them. Ed and I turned around to see that it was Articuno, back to normal.
“Ab-SOL!” Absol shouted as it hit Team Rocket with a Hyper Beam. The explosion sent them out of the mountain.
“Doesn’t this kind of thing only happen to those idiots Butch and Cassidy?!” Ashley screamed.
“Well, misery loves company!” Olson answered.
“TEAM ROCKET’S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!!” they shouted, disappearing in the sky.
“We did it, Ed!” I said as we high-fived.
“Yeah, so did Articuno! Thank you very much!” he said to Articuno.
“Gyao!” Articuno replied happily.
“Hey, now’s your chance! Why don’t you challenge Articuno?” I whispered to Ed.
“No! Articuno’s too weak! YOU had to go and-”
“Gyao!” Articuno interjected. As soon as we turned to it, it used Rest.
“Ohhhhh…well, it’s rude to catch it while it’s sleeping!”
“GAH! Ed, I think it told us to wait!”
“Gyao!” Articuno interjected again. It was awake, and ready to battle.
“Okay, Aggron! Let’s do this! Start of with Metal Claw!”
“Aggron!” Aggron said as it leapt at Articuno with a Metal Claw. However, Articuno dodged and used Water Pulse.
“Look out!” Aggron tried to dodge, but the attack hit. It looked like it did a lot of damage. “Time to strike back! Use Double-Edge!” With an orange stream behind it, Aggron charged at Articuno.
“Are you nuts?! That attack will hurt Aggron!”
“Not quite! Its ability, Rock Head, prevents recoil damage!” Aggron nailed Articuno with Double-Edge. Articuno then used Ice Beam, which Aggron was highly unaffected by. “Give it a full power Metal Claw!” Aggron nailed Articuno with Metal Claw. Articuno quickly recovered, froze Aggron’s feet with Ice Beam, then used Rest.
“That’s not good! You’ve gotta hit it now!”
“I’ve been waiting for this! Aggron, finish it with Flash Cannon!” Aggron fired a Flash Cannon at Articuno, which damaged it greatly. Articuno then slumped to the ground. “All right! POKE BALL, GO!!” Ed threw a Poke Ball, and Articuno entered, wiggled around a while (a LONG while), and finally clicked. “I…I did it!! I CAUGHT AN ARTICUNO!!”
“Way to go! But I’ve got to finish my mis-I mean, we should free the Pokémon!” Deoxys, Absol, and Arcanine went through Meteor Falls, melting the ice with Focus Punch, Hyper Beam, and Flame Wheel, respectively. After that, we said goodbye to the Pokémon and left. Absol watched us from atop another ridge, and then went off into the woods.
“Mike, best of luck at Ever Grande! We’ll try to make it there as soon as we can!” Ed said, now on Articuno’s back.
“You’d better! After all we’ve been through, I’d hate for you to miss out on this!” I replied.
“Take care of yourselves!”
Ed and Articuno flew off into the distance, while Deoxys and I waved from below. With our mission accomplished, we knew that now was the time to start on our way to Ever Grande and to our victory in the Hoenn League.
