Just read the whole thing and I actually quite liked it. Which is saying something-I usually detest fan fiction. This is nice, not too serious kind of upbeat and stuff even when it is a bit sad. It makes me feel like I'm playing Pokémon Crystal-pretty fun and you don't need to get too into it to like it.

Thanks. i made it like that because Gary's 10 and just starting out, but it'll start to get just a little darker every volume starting with volume three, because that's when Gary hits his teenage years.

Now this chapter's what I'm talking about, I can see you really got better, keep going

Good narrative indeed, but the last chapter I din't like it sincerely. Because new Team Rocket is a carbon copy of the previous one: same behavior, same objective (remember Team Rocket does a lot more than stealing Pokémon), even same motto and balloon shaped after talking Pokémon. Don't get offended, I really enjoyed a lot your previous chapters, but the latest was very unoriginal, when the others were so creative. Take it as an advice =D

You'll soon see why the mannerisms of the new trio mimic the old.... That was intentional.

Weird to be updating so soon, but...




"Who were those guys?" asked Gary as he and his friends continued through Viridian Forest. He was referring to the strange trio that had assaulted them a few hours earlier.

"Yeah," replied Kitty. "They called themselves Team Rocket... But didn't Dad say he destroyed Team Rocket, almost fifteen years ago?"

"Could've fooled me," Leaf chimed in. "We had trouble with them in Fortree just five years back."

"Fortree City? In Hoenn?" Kitty questioned.

Leaf nodded. "That's my hometown," she admitted. "That's where I was born."

Gary was so perplexed that he didn't notice the hut until he ran into it. "Ow," he said plainly. He fell down and got a good look at the hut. It was old and rickety, and straw hung from the roof in patches.

"Hold it right there!" a voice shouted. Gary turned to find a man dressed like a samurai glowering over him. "Trespasser!" the man shouted.

"N-no, I-" Gary began. He didn't like the looks of this.

"No excuses!" the man barked. "All trespassers must battle the Samurai! That's me! So get up and choose your Pokemon!"

Gary gulped and got up. He didn't like this guy- but rules were rules. He called Bulbasaur. The samurai plucked a Poke Ball from his belt. "Go, Pinsir!" he screeched.

"PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINSSIIIIRR!"

A large insectile creature burst from the Poke Ball. Two pincers clapped together on its head. Gary hesitantly released Bulbasaur.

"A Grass-type? This should be easy!" the Samurai chortled. "X-Scissor, Pinsir!" Pinsir's claws glowed bright blue. It then clamped them firmly around Bulbasaur. The Seed Pokemon cried in pain.

"No! Try Razor Leaf, Bulbasaur!" Gary cried. Bulbasaur spewed a storm of super-sharp leaves from its bulb. This was only enough to get it free. Bulbasaur landed opposite Pinsir and continued its leaf barrage.

"That's enough!" yelled the Samurai impatiently. "Fury Cutter!" Pinsir began slicing Bulbasaur, getting more powerful each slash. Gary was aghast. This couldn't continue!

"That thing has to be weak by now! Finish it, Pinisr! Guillotine!" the Samurai outgrabed. Pinsir charged its foe, its eyes glinting with malevolence. Suddenly, Bulbasaur used its vines to thrust itself up into the air. When it fell back down, it used those same vines to grab Pinsir, holding the Stag Beetle Pokemon above its head. A blast of yellow light emerged from its bulb.When the light settled, Pinsir was knocked out and Bulbasaur was no longer Bulbasaur. It had grown long fangs, and its bulb had opened, revealing a budding flower.

"Wow!" Leaf exclaimed. "Bulbasaur's evolved into Ivysaur!"

"Vy!" Ivysaur agreed.

"Whoa.." the Samurai breathed. "You sure are something... What's your name, kid?"

"Gary," Gary replied. "Gary Ketchum."

"Ketchum..." murmered the Samurai as he watched the three children disappear into the forest. "Haven't heard that name in almost... 20 years..."

Next chapter: "Pewter City 1/2: The discovery of Contests!"

Good fight and a good ending too, although a word of advice try to make it longer so you can have more space and that way you don't get to have so many chapters for one thing

I keep it like an episodic series because I feel it adds to the charm. This is the last Viridian filler- next chapter, Brock appears, and Gary challenges him.

nice chapter. yea I agree with golden hero, make them a bit longer. they don't have to be terribly long, but maybe a little more. i liked it though, especially the cliffy ending.

I can tell you this much- the Samurai WILL appear again. He was always one of my favorite CODs.

I thought it was a bit quick to have Bulba evolving, but hell, this is anime based, and was an epic evolution anyway.
But the best is that you rescued the first CoD of the show... back then I thought they'd really meet again... lots of memories (just as Samurai should have felt when he hear "Ketchum" XD).

Brock? I thought he had quit Pewter Gym after getting married with a Joy (or Suzie, the girl who gave her his Vulpix <3) and founding a breeding center or whatever. Can't wait to see what you did to adult Brock!!

Samurai will be making infrequent appearances throughout the series. His final appearance will be epic, to say the least. Ivy won't be evolving for a while now, not till at least Saffron.
