Yayness, this is shônen-ai, that's RARE! As Toge said, shônen-ai *always* deserves longer comments because it friggin rocks! This fic explores a pairing I never would have imagined that is Jirudan and Sakaki (why is it named AirShipping?) nad it feels so cool that they're hot together (not cute, not kawaii, hot), therefore making it a completely worth reading pairing.
I liked the office and the radio scenes best, the way Jirudan felt kind of numb, to describe it best after hearing Saki-kun's death ;-; that was sad. The part where they laughed together seemed so pausible, two completely arrogant men laughing at their mistakes, taking off both their burdens to have a relaxed talk. And how it fitted that Sakaki wanted to "have" Jirudan, as a possession, and then get attached to him was frightening. It seemed real, y'know.
I always praise fics for the reality they show in the fic, trying to imagine a normal world with pokemon, not a childish fantastic one, one where feelings are involved and Pokemon Training/Raising is just another fashion that might just pass in the next five years. This fic does so, it makes you believe this could happen, then you realize there's not such thing as Team Rocket or "Gyms" for that matter and find the trick the fic has made.
Therefore this fic gets the HA (Heavy Angst) Warning! and the SR (Slapping Reality) Warning! Congrats on a great fic!
Coolas!

Whoo.
That's going down as one of my favorite reviews.
In responce to your first question...I don't know why it's called Airshipping. Gyara called it that on her site, so it stuck. (actually, not knowing about that one, I'd coined 'Airshipping' to denote Setzer and Daryl from FFVI a few weeks prior)
And given that they're surounded by these creatures, I don't think training them would be considered a fad there. It's probably like dogs and cats, most people have them, or have an opinion on them...and it's so ingrained into their culture that I don't see it fading there without some sort of major event...
As for the rest...well, it *is* a fantasy world, but with real humans. And the fantasy is a part of their reality, so it's commonplace and every day for them...
Oh oh oh! *raises hand crazily* Can I answer?
Okay, what I meant was, everyone in the Pokeworld knows what pokemon are and all, but some of them don't like them ("I hate pets, they crap on the carpet"), others like them as pets ("look at it's CUTE ears! It's so CUTE!!") and some people want to be Trainers and Train them ("I'll be the greatest Pokemon Master of 'em all! Wow, where did that came from?"). What I'm saying is, the training Sport is to me, a fashion, a trend, like "SK8ing" or Rollers and all, people won't stop doing it, but it'll be off every kid's attention sometime, like, once, everybody knew who Tony Hawk was, now they just like the PS2 game. Is this clear enough?
As for the other part, the fantasy one, I meant child fantasy not fantasy (fantasy is cool), child fantasy is like the Anime series (the movies have shown to be a bit different), where anyone who has a problem can be easily fixed by the SUPER POWURFUL MAGIK POWURZ OF POKEMON!! You get the idea? The angstier stuff is like, Ash trying to leave Pikachu because he feels like home (so I only watched season one, kill me) and turns out he doesn't have to! Yay! Well I'm more of a depressive drama stuff perosn so there.
*put two cents on big cash box*
Yay!

Well, "Fantasy" is a broad term, and I think Pokemon fits both of what you mean...
both the 'mad skillz' sort and the more mystic legend stuff...
...the trick is to balance them. But with someone like Giovanni, and someone like Jirarudan, both of whom have seen the power of these creatures, and have lost something important to them, it's easier to focus on the legend side...
...plus, that's what Jiri lives his life for, legends.
