Thread: Erasmus's Art

I've been drawing for awhile, mostly sketching. I've never uploaded to any sites mostly either, being a lazy and generally unmotivated sort of guy. So I've quietly toiled away over the years, keeping my drawings to myself.

Until recently, anyway. I decided I would begin trying have more of a direction with my drawings and ideas over the summer and start posting them somewhere.
That pretty much went no where too, until today where I uploaded a handful of my better sketches to Deviant Art. I finally just decided to get up off my butt and so something.


(Note: I don't actually have a drawing table, so this picture is not entirely accurate.)

These are all RP character sketches/flat colors. The first three are for RPs here on Bulbagarden and the last was a doodle for the tabletop RPG Eclipse Phase.

Nicomedes, or Nick, is an odd fellow. His looks have never endeared him to many and he spent a good chunk of his life wandering around the various routes of the Pokemon World. First with his father and then by himself. As such, he tends to not "get" social interaction all that well.


Federnder grew up at an orphanage before striking out on his own. Always feeling that he wasn't exactly the person he wanted to be, that he was too impulsive and uncaring, he eventually joined up with some sort of military academy for a few years. Upon leaving, he was more stoic and more worldly, but also more unsure about exactly what he wants out of life.


The general idea behind him was that he wanted to be "a man," but was a little confused on what that meant, exactly. Being gentlemanly? Being violent and aggressive?
I'm rather pleased at how the positioning of the hands worked out.


This is a quick sketch I did based around a character I made for an Eclipse Phase campaign. The actual character him/itself was an AI in a swarm body. As in, his body was actually a swarm of small robots flying around.
I sketched out an idea for some sort of robot suit it could inhabit to better interact with a humanoid centric world, but that does not actually exist in the game.

Most of these are sketches of characters from comics I've had ideas for but never actually did much with.

These are again from one of my many vague comic ideas, something about superheroes this time. Not to sure on their personalities or backgrounds either. Just something I felt like sketching.


This would have been a kind of ensemble comic starring a variety of characters various Lovecraftian traits.
Pictured here are the fish woman and the boy playing host to metal covered alien parasites. They're on vacation, you see.


Not entirely sure what prompted this, other than the general lack of female Turians in Mass Effect.


This is an idea that's been rattling around for awhile. A fan character for Golden Sun, she's of the "Dark Mage" class one can only get by equipping the Tomegathericon. Another story thing I've never gotten around to truly creating.
I'm rather pleased with the muscle definition on the arm, something I don't usually use.


Another Golden Sun fan character that is related to the Dark Mage Sketch. He's a Proxian, hence the scales and claw. Through the idea was around for awhile, the head scarf design I pretty much cribbed from one of the new Prince of Persia games.
I never got around to finishing his lower body.


I'm rather fascinated by ants and generally all insects, arthropods, and the largely creepy crawly lifeforms.
This is an alien from one of the many comic ideas I have, but an too lazy to actually sit down and solidify. It would be full of aliens that subvert, or at least attempt to, the general humanoid body structure.


These are different. They're not from a comic I'm probably never going to draw, they're from a book I'm probably never going to write.
I tried to go more realistic than I usually do on this. And aside from the guy's right cheek, I'm rather pleased with how it turned out.
If you were to guess who I based the guy on, you'd probably be wrong. He looks like Clint Eastwood, but I actually based him on Civil War General Sherman.

These are a few of my Pokemon related sketches.

Just some random little doodle I did in an attempt to mimic the general art style of Pokemon. Not even sure I really had a personality laid out for him.


More character sketches for uncertain comic ideas. Don't be fooled by the title or appearances: the guy on the left isn't a pokemon trainer and the guy on the right isn't as wacky as he looks. He is insane, schizophrenic in fact, but that's unrelated. The Metang acts as his medication, of sorts, leaving him free to be sane and choose to act weird.
Mostly on hold for lack of a clear idea and to give me some time to sort through the complications of wanting the character to be eccentric but seriously deal with the issues of mental disorders.


I really like expansive views, especially of a starry sky and over views of things. Especially if there's water to reflect the sky.
Being a sketch, it is not incredibly obvious that this is that. The weird blob on the horizon is supposed to be the Milky Way/whatever the Pokemon universe has. I don't do a lot of scenery views and this was an attempt to fix that.
I didn't want the trainer and pokemon to factor too largely into the piece. Just being small observes and not the center of attention was what I was going for

These are two sketches I did based on the upcoming Bioware MMO, The Old Republic.

Just a face sketch for an Imperial Agent character. I had planned on finishing the body before uploading, but circumstances interfered and so I'm uploading the face only at the moment.
Fun Fact: I tried to base him off of Martin Freeman, of Sherlock, The Hobbit, and Hitchhiker's Guide fame. Not too sure how much I succeeded.


Some sort of Mandalorian armor.
I'm not entirely pleased with the helmet hose and may tinker with its placement later.

This is probably the most likely of my comic ideas to actually get somewhere. It's currently called Thread and it's about Magical Girls, pretty dresses, and ruminations on the nature of identity and gender in society.

Of course, I've got the various plotlines and themes down, but not the names. Never been good with those. So these three are nameless for now, though not personality-less.
The girl on the right is our heroine and the most laid back of the trio. She's got that sort of bland niceness one comes to expect from good people: polite, unassuming, not confrontational, but lacking in a certain sense of the world around her. She's seamstress and works at a clothing store.
The middle girl has both a more forceful and less thoughtful personality: easily making an impression but not always a good one. Opinionated, she however does not have as great a sense of what she truly believes or wants to accomplish as her friends. Consequently, she has many hobbies and interests, but no direction.
The girl on the left is the most stoic of her friends: she is the least talkative and outwardly emotional of the trio but also the most blunt and direct thinking. She tries to watch out for and take into account the feelings and personalities of the people around her. Frequently, their various eccentricities confound her. She participates in track.


Two more characters for the same comic as the three girls. These two are also nameless, though I believe I named the one on the right Oliver. Neither are the most central characters, plot wise, but they jump start the story and are involved with important character interactions throughout the story.
The coated guy on the right is rather antisocial, though not necessarily by choice. He prefers to observe people more than be directly involved in their social actions. He lives in the clock tower at the center of the city.
The one of the left is the previous owner of the main heroine's powers. A generally cheery personality belies the circumstances that surround her. She is the guy to the right's only friend.

I actually based the final design off of someone I happened to notice one day on the subway. The heroine is no where near exactly the same in appearance, but it helped me finalize her look.

(Grr... how annoying. Looks like I can only have 20 images per post. The last two are in the next post.)

A handful of other things that don't really fit into the other categories.

More of a concept sketch than anything else, this was my attempt to practice something more mechanical. I'm not entirely sure about the wrists.


A simple, though not simple to make, set of spinning cogwheels. They were entirely done in GIMP (I am poor), and as my first try at this sort of art, probably took more time and complexity than they needed.
I originally didn't like the wobbling, but it's grown on me. Gives it a certain unique feel.

These are really good! Some of the characters' heads are quite big compared to their bodies, but I make that mistake all the time.
