Well someone has to cook.
And seriously brock is the best cook and ashs best buddy. plus he gotta be a qualified doctor by now its been....well 0 years in Ash aging time but at least 5 years in episode time.
Plus I can't see any of the gen 6 'friends' as being good cooks or the adult influence to the group.
As for me, I do feel they'll uphold the status quo of the female companion leaving with Iris, which doesn't bother me in the slightest if it happens. Even though I actually did enjoy Dento, I'd rather him have the same treatment as Iris, and give him a send-off. I suppose, as much as there are bits to explore and he wouldn't have as much as an easy resolve to his journey as Iris with a potential job as Gym Leader (though, her willingness is debatable here), there are options. I suppose I don't wish to see him wind up the way Brock did by stretching his character too far out over the sagas when it doesn't need to be. However, I wouldn't exactly be adamant that he goes, and can see why he should stay. Though, as for the XY characters we've had so far mightn't be up to the traditions, but XY could be courageous like BW was in some aspects, given on how effective the writers think it is. I would like to see them being creative with the tools they are given, but maybe it is more creative to have a travelling cast from a totally fresh canvas.
I wouldn't mind a female cook this time around, or maybe no notable main cook (as in, they cook, but there's not really one saddled with the role).

what i expect:
I kind of expect both Cilan and Iris to go. i think the makers stopped putting Brock in to give Ash a fresh start. if they were to just leave Iris or Cilan in for another region they would be doing what they did back when Brock and Misty joined Ash in Johto or when Brock joined Ash in Hoenn. they may want to start fresh with Ash again and have him meet more friends. i expect them to both leave.
what i want (and most will never happen):
I am okay with Cilan staying. It would not be too bad :) he's pretty cool and i have grown to like him even though Brock and Misty will always be my favorite of Ash's companions.
but i would rather have Brock come back. its pretty doubtful because Ash did get a fresh start but i would like to see it happen. he is training to be a pokemon doctor so it would depend how long that would take. maybe after learning everything his next task was to go start practicing pokemon medicine so maybe if he went on a journey with Ash again everytime thye reached town he would help Nurse Joy out and when they are in more rural areas he could take care of sick or injured pokemon there. its doubtful but i wish it could happen.
as for Iris.. i want her gone. i just... i don't like her. i hate how she always calls Ash a kid. i mean common Ash is portrayed as young and lively but he still has a lot more experience than she does. I want Iris to be called back to her home so she can train Axew and Dragonite and be a decent dragon trainer... what i may not like her but at least let me give her some good. thats what i want

So..... I heard you don't like Whitney's Miltank
There's already a thread covering what companions Ash could get in XY here: http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/f716/if-iris-dento-gone-who-do-you-think-will-new-companions-152739/
Please keep the focus here on whether or not Iris and/or Cilan will be leaving. Thank you.
I'll miss Axew if Iris leaves.
I really can't call whether they're leaving or not. The anime has a pretty weird track record with who Ash's companions are and how long they stay - it's not like there's any set formula beyond 'he has a girl companion and an older guy companion. and sometimes someone else too'.
If they bring in an anime-only character let's all just hope they're not as annoying as Tracey :/

I'd like for them to stay, but I feel pretty doubtful that they will. Although they have pretty perfect outs if they want to keep them. Cilan's been covered before, but I could see them introducing the Fairy-type toward the end of BW and having Iris desiring to go with Satoshi so that she can experience this new type and learn how to deal with it; considering that Dragons are weak to Fairy, it'd make sense for a Dragon-type trainer to go and do extensive research on a type that's native to Kalos.
Cilan is far too popular a character, and too much of a change from the norm type of partner that Ash has, to be dumped at this point, so we can say bye to Iris and hello to Kalos!Cilan. Hopefully!
I don't think Iris would need to go with Ash to Kalos to learn how to deal with Fairy types. They would most likely retcon the other regions to include Fairy types, just like they've had Johto and Hoenn Pokemon living in Kanto, so she could travel anywhere to deal with Fairy types. Plus, Clair was brought back most likely to give Iris another option to do besides going back to Drayden. She could go to Johto to train under Clair instead. She seems to learn more staying in one place than traveling anyway, or at least that's the impression I've gotten of her character, so she'd probably learn more off-screen in one place than traveling with Ash through another region again.Originally Posted by Non
I truly hope they both stay, but that chance is low.
Considering a few pre-Gen VI Pokemon have already retroactively gained a dual typing to accommodate the Fairy-type and it's an inevitability that a lot more of them will be getting the same treatment, I wouldn't be surprised if the point of Clair's reintroduction into the series is (beyond being an excuse for Iris to not proceed to Kalos) to introduce Iris to Fairy-types, so that Iris can learn to deal with them under Clair's wing so THEN Iris will feel like she's adequate to be Opelucid Gym Leader. In other words, I think Clair's a better and far more logical choice to learn about Fairy-types than bumbling through a new region with an ever-clueless Ash who won't stop any longer than a minute to say "Oh, Fairy-types! Cool thing, that. Kthx ONTO THE NEXT GYM!" (even if he does catch a Fairy-type, I feel like it would be a while since Ash has to catch at least his mandatory regional bird, fire, water, and grass Pokemon first :P)
Before anyone says anything about Clair's episode being about a shiny Druddigon, I say odds are good that Clair will at least mention the Fairy-type or allude to it, and judging by the OP + Clair's episode being a little ways off from the end of BW, it seems very likely that Clair will appear again at least one more time before BW concludes. Either way, I think Clair should cover the matter of Iris not being boned on not getting to experience Fairy-types.
Which is all the better for me because I can't wait for Iris to get the fudge outta here. :P I got tired of her before the end of BW's first year; everything beyond that has been agonizing torture; she is by far THE worst traveling companion of Ash's they've ever concocted. And fittingly so her Pokemon are THE worst of any traveling companion's Pokemon for their own special reasons, so I want the whole lot of them outta here. And it was mentioned before, and I've said it for ages myself, but Iris really had no reason for following Ash around to begin with ("I wanna meet Zekrom!" does not qualify as a legit excuse to me; Misty's bike excuse held way better than that :P), so naturally there's no reason to keep her around. Her story... her horribly-done story... is pretty much done as far as they'll let any main character's let be done. So even looking at this without the bias, pretty much anything there could be for her in Kalos that couldn't be anywhere else has been covered thanks to retroactive typing being confirmed, and Clair's existence is just icing on the get-the-fuck-outta-this-show-NOW cake.
So yeah. Au revoir, Iris!
And again, as previously stated by users in this topic and myself in several topics, Cilan's chances are 50/50 still. Again I must state, the power of Mamoru Miyano is perhaps even more powerful than most creative forces behind this show, so if he doesn't wanna go, then by god he's not gonna go and Cilan will remain in XY. And of course, beyond anything else about Cilan's character, Ash needs his mobile mom figure above all else; why else do you think Brock lasted on the show as long as he did? Personally I think Cilan can last one more series without getting stale, especially since the setting of XY is literally PokeFrance, which is WAAAAAY too perfect for a guy like Cilan. What would be even better is Burgundy somehow being there as a recurring character (and then all of her French quips would be totally justified!). Even with the promotional poster of Da! showing Cilan as part of the Sayonara~ picture, we all remember that Brock didn't carry on from series to series by traveling with Ash to them: nope, he just appeared out of the blue! Cilan could do that too. None of the rival characters of XY look like they'd be fitting cooks, but that's just me. Unless they use Serena or some random new gym leader to fill the role, Cilan could very well be set for XY.
But personally, I'm fine with Cilan staying or going. I enjoy Cilan, but not to the point that I'd be eternally butthurt if he didn't make it to XY. But it's hard to deny the evidence that Cilan's chances of staying are infinitely greater than Iris' non-existent chance.
So yeah. Cilan, best wishes if you leave and WELCOME ABOARD if you stay :D
Iris... ... ... I need a calendar, HOW CLOSE IS OCTOBER COMING AGAIN!?
