Thread: So, Is Mewtwo still the world's strongest pokemon?

Since the introduction of dark types as well as all the legendaries introduced after Movie 1, does Mewtwo still have the credit as the world's most powerful pokemon?

I think it was just a reflection of the games at the time, where Mewtwo was massively overpowered compared to just about everything else. Arceus has got to be a higher power than Mewtwo, surely.

The toughest of them all is Mew. Afterall, it's a common thing with anime O_o - Stuff's more than meets the eye. The eternally frail looking OMG-it-can't-win creatures are the ones with the strength.

I believe in the anime they would most likely make mewtwo and arceus evenly matched, just to not anger any fans. Mewtwo is my favorite pokemon but in the games hes not strongest.

I think as far as the people of Kanto are aware Mewtwo is the strongest but on a global scale it would be Arceus (There isn't really indication as to how widespread knowledge of him is, because he is generally considered to be part of a creation story myth).

I'd probably say it's Arceus, even though I personally dislike the beast extremely much and think it is highly overrated, it did kinda beat the crap out of Giratina, Palkia and Dialga by itself.

Arceus is the world's strongest Pokémon. With a hearty Judgement, foes are out.

I'd take it as one of the things that has been the subject of retcon. There's no telling how many pokemon within the world that the scientists were weighing this against. At the very least, Mewtwo is as powerful as Mew, which is enough to outrank all ordinary pokemon and perhaps some legends as well. Arceus, however, exists outside the world as we know it, in it's own dimension, and so do it's offspring. It is even more powerful than they are, and they can warp reality itself. I have long considered Mewtwo to be equal to Mew and similar pokemon, and also equal to legends that are similar to Mewtwo itself, like Deoxys and Genesect. Arceus and it's children, however, exist on a higher plane of existence and are more powerful than any of them. I have no real evidence other than the power of those legends is more far reaching than Mewtwo alone. So no, it isn't the most powerful anymore, but I don't see why that should matter.

All myths seem to be regional or local, in the games and the anime.

Anyway, I'd say that from what I've seen, Mewtwo is still pretty much the strongest (but equal to Mew), even with Dark types. Mewtwo seems pretty much unhittable most of the time so even super-effective attacks would be useless against him. And the fact that he is so powerful means that his Shadow Ball will still do a considerable amount of damage to Dark-types, even though they resist it.
But I have not seen the Arceus and Darkrai movies so I'm not sure how either of those two Pokémon would match up against Mewtwo.

Its hard to say, I mean remove the plates and Arceus is just like an ordinary bidoof but he is 'god' or something like that.

This is the order of legendaries in my opinion. Gen 5 excluded

1) Arceus
2) Dialga, Palkia, Giratina
3) Rayquaza
4) Groudon, Kyogre
5) Mewtwo, Mew, Ho-oh, Lugia, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Regigigas
6) Regice, Registeel, Regirock
7) Celebi, Jirachi, Darkrai, Cresselia
8) Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Latias, Latios, Deoxys, Manaphy, Heatran, Shaymin
9) Phione

No, and he hasn't been since Gen III. In a fight between Kyogre and Mewtwo, I would bet on Kyogre, even animé-verse, and that applies to Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Arceus, Reshiram, Zekrom, and probably Kyurem too. And I'd bet that Darkrai and Genesect could beat Mewtwo through type advantage.

Arceus. He was able to beat Palkia Dialga and Giratina with ease. And Either on of those guys could beat Mewtwo.
