Anyone else taken back a little on Shooty capturing a Banipucchi? I was thinking that a Furiijio would have suited him a bit better.

Seeing as he is trying to catch more than the standard six, I think a Kirikizan would suit him.

Not really, it was about time Vanillite debuted in the anime.

And just because Trip obtained a Vanillite does not mean Ash won't catch one. Ash and Trip both have Tranquill, whereas Trip used to own a Snivy.

There are hardly any ice-type pokemon available in Unova, and Trip needed a pokemon that could evolve to show his progress as a trainer. In this case, an ice-type pokemon that could evolve once or twice are hard to come by this gen. A pokemon like Cryogonal that cannot evolve at all would have been too stagnant for a beginner trainer.

I think they're giving Trip a variety of pokemon in an attempt to make him more interesting.

I think the writers are well aware of Trip's lukewarm reception, especially coming right after Paul. It honestly reminds me of how Zoey/Kenny were received back when DP first started.

On Pokemon cards, there are Brock's Sandshrew and Misty's Vaporeon, but the two do not have them, so if you think that there might be a Ash's Pokemon, then it might be something like that.

Ash isn't, he's pretty much an anime only character. The only way it could be close to Brock's Sandshrew or Misty's Vaporeon is if someone out there makes a manga adaptation of Ash's adventures through Unova and they give him a Palpitoad for whatever reason. Kind of like how Electric Tale Pikachu Ash has a couple of Pokemon that his anime counterpart doesn't have.

if Ash gets that Palpitoad then he'll probably get another Fire, Dark, Flying, Fighting, Normal or Electric Pokemon

Edit: If Tepig's gonna evolve into Pignite, then there's no need for Fighting but still it's quite amusing that Ash is catching a lot of Pokemon (if Palpitoad's capture is confirmed) in this region..

It's probably one of these "april fools" jokes. It's kind of ironic to find two episodes about Palpitoad.

I don't really like Ash catching Pokemon that have fully evolved. I like the idea of them growing along with him. But still, I could get used to this.
