The Battle at Nibi Gym- Okay, I get it, Ash challenges "Brock." 'Showdown at Pewter City' while not exactly accurate sounds more ominous and more awesome (you know awesomer).
The Pokemon Ensured-Victory Manual- I don't even know what this means. Sounds like a clip show title to me. I mean at least "The School of Hard Knocks" at least I guess made more sense.
Bill's Lighthouse- Now I admit there's nothing wrong with it but compare it to "Mystery at the Lighthouse" 'Bill's Lighthouse' in comparison sounds boring.
Electric Showdown! Vermillion Gym- I guess compared to "Electric Shock Showdown" it's too explicit on what's happening. "Electric Shock Showdown" does imply electric Pokemon battling but doesn't say it's for a gym. Though the title is very close to the original. So you don't have to count this one.
Ghost Pokemon and the Summer Festival- Sounds like an event more than a title. Compare it to "The ghost of maiden's peak" which sounds more like a title. Maybe not for Pokemon but in general.
Get One at the Pokemon Tower- Like the previous title except for this one it sounds like an advertisment. "Come one come all, come to the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town, and get one. Get one "what" you say. Well come down and find out! It'll leave you breathless" as opposed to "The Tower of Terror" again sounds like a title.
Don't be Mad, Primeape
- While sort of like names, anything can be titles, but how in the world are most of these titles? I mean as awesome as it would be to have an episode title possibly be based on memorable quote in the episode. 'Don't be mad, Primeape" doesn't sound very memorable. "It took me about a million postcards for that hat" sounds far more memorable and I'd laugh my ass off if that was the title of the episodes (now that would've been creative). So in this case of the English title I prefer "Primeape goes apes" though I'm sure "bananas" probably would've fit better than "apes." Erika
and (I'm assuming Kusaihana
- Well compared to "Pokemon Scent-sation it is fairly boring and lacking. Though on the upside it doesn't imply a gym which may not actually be a good thing.
**An inverse boring Japanese Title** Sleeper
and Pokemon Hypnotism!?- If it wasn't for the fact that Sleeper is most likely Hypno
, which I'm sure it is, this title would have been interesting but change Sleeper to Hypno and you get "Hypno and Pokemon Hypnotism" and well outside the fact that would be slightly creative for the dub, the creativity of the title doesn't quite work well for the Japanese as it would the English. Then again I guess it's slightly better than "Hypno's Naptime" which sounds like a horrible boring kids show. 'Alright, kids, let's watch Hypno sleep
for a half hour, feel free to join him.' Vulpix
! Breeder Showdown!- I suppose there isn't anything bad about it. But even still "Pokémon Fashion Flash" sounds so more peppy.
Fighting Pokemon! The Big Battle!- Not that "The Punchy Pokemon" is any better but still "Fighting Pokemon" "The Big Battle." Doesn't sound very exciting. if it was "The last Battle" I guess that would be better.
Now I do have to give the Japanese some credit, where credit is due- What the hell kind of title is that? Nah just kidding but anyway "Do Coil Dream of Electric Mice!? now that is creative and I have to give props to the Japanese for that one. But at the same time I can't help but think "Sparks fly for Magnemite
" while inferior actually has more meaning towards the episode than the original. But as I said I'm not really complaining on this one, I actually like the original title, one of the most (if not only) creative titles the Japanese is capable of. Just wanted to point this out. Paras
- Okay if you just look at the issue of the episode (the first however many minutes), it kind of does imply Paras
is going to evolve since it would've been unlikely for Parasect
to just randomly show up (of course the title alone could imply one shows up alongside Paras). "The Problem with Paras" actually makes it more vague, it says there's a Paras and it has a problem. But what? Exactly, we have to watch out to find out. So I prefer the English to the Japanese here. Though "Charmeleon
gets it's ass beat by a Paras" would be loads more awesome. I still can't tell if Charmeleon actually did faint or it was due to shock or Charmeleon was being nice to Paras. But regardless it was still absolutely hilarious.
Resurrection! Ancient Pokemon- Kind of misleading here isn't it? Since none of them are actually resurrected. So I prefer "Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon" though "Ancient Pokemon" sort of implies we'll see never before seen Pokemon compared to "Prehistoric" which already implies fossil Pokemon. But anyway to go further I think we need a title that says "Attack of the Prehistoric Forest" now that would be interesting to see. Lucky
's Medical Charts- Sounds like a short on a video game, sort of like that one Pokemon Channel game and the Pichu
brother shorts. And as far as the title goes, I can't tell if I care about "Chansey
's Medical Charts" or not. "A Chansey Operation" sounds more suitable.
and James"- Well it does imply James will get a Growlithe, shame it just stayed. I think I like "Holy Matrimony" since it sounds like someone would say as a substitute for "Holy Crap" but it being applied to a marriage. Like someone walks into a wedding and sees something unexpected, I'd think they would say "Holy Matrimony."
