I don't see how it is very clear that they aren't bringing co-stars back. If they're willing to bring back the female sidekick role after both May and especially Dawn got so much screentime in their respective series, I don't see why they can't make another female co-star after Iris. It really does depend on if there's some side quest in X/Y that could work for a female character to participate in. There really wasn't anything like that in B/W since Musicals were just a non-interactive version of the video game Contest appeal round. At least there was room for the writers to add in battle rounds in Contests when they were first introduced. Plus, I think that they wanted Ash to travel with two characters who are Gym Leaders in the video games like he did in the original series as an homage of shorts. If X/Y either bring back Contests or introduce some new sidequest, I don't see why they wouldn't have another female co-star.

There isn't anything much for a co-star to do. They got rid of contests and I'm real confident that there will be nothing in the games that can suit a co-star role and can justify that they might bring in a co-star...

We know next to nothing about the games, so I don't see why you're so confident that there won't be anything in the games that they could adapt into another sidequest with absolutely no information to back that up. You could be right, but they could also introduce something new. It really could go either way at this point when we know so little about the games. For all we know, they could bring back Contests since they've brought back features in the games after getting rid of them before or do something unexpected. It would be seriously boring if Ash's Gym badge quest was the only focus in the next series. It was already dull that they went back to that in BW as it is, although the generally poor quality of his battles didn't help either.

The show should never lose sight that Ash is the star, but should also never ignore his friends.

I think it would be interesting to have girl trainer, ranger, explorer etc for a change added to cast developing in different directions with writers showing various type of careers on screen through which characters can grow and learn new things just like its case in real life.

But regardless i wont mind another girl sidekick in cast either because we don't necessarily need to have female co-star in anime to get good growth and believable development out of her. Often less can be more not needing someone who is nearly equal to Ash in amount of focus he receives to be handled properly. Despite getting less i felt May had more genuine growth than Dawn. Same goes for Misty in comparison to Iris regardless of imperfections concerning her plots.

Speaking of which Misty actually got good focus for supporting character(more than males in general do, not counting Ash) in first two seasons and later half of Johto(more notably Master Quest and end of 4th season) . There wasn't done enough with story but you could still feel her presence in episodes bringing dynamic and contributing to various plots like Cilan does.

While with Iris i feel issue isn't so much in amount of growth she receives, but rather in inconsistency and uneven distribution of focus revolving around her. At one moment she barely gets any development for long periods, just to have writers cram too many stuff in short period of time resulting in rushed and poorly executed planning.

p.s. But in all honesty im tired from constant rinse and repeat dumping girl companions halfway unfinished formula dragging on for years.That's not creative way to keep some show exciting. Shame because imo it would be more captivating to reuse some of popular previous companion people grew to like giving them more development, exploring more about their past, break new grounds with their goals getting update etc.Such as Misty who could certainly use more development missing her dynamic persona or May going forward as coordinator.

Erm, didn't you watch her most recent appearance? Her ship sunk into Lake Valor with her inside it after getting hit by two Future Sights and we haven't seen her since. It's more than likely that we're done with her.

It sunk, then it KABLOOIE. No way she survived.

Back on topic, my hopes for VI gen in anime will be based on Episode N final result. From what we have seen up to now, the writers learnt from the mistakes of BW series, and I expect that to be true, but I will not hold my breath for it if Episode N turns out to be a fiasco.

Probably standard. New female character, perhaps getting rid of Cilan. Maybe if they can't think of anything original, they'll bring back some old characters for Ash to travel with. That is, if he remembers them, since he usually gets his mind wiped after every region.

Ash will dump everyone, except Pikachu, of course, he'll stay in Pallet Town for all of a few minutes before going to the next region, his friends casually replaced with two others.

Not exactly what I want to happen, but it will.

here i go again. we do not know for sure that they will be replaced. unless we work for tpc then its useless to assume that we know whats going to happen. yes there are reasons for iris to stay in unova. but lets not forget the there was reasons for ash to end his journey( right know i can only think of one right now: battle frontier)

I think it'd be pretty awesome if they kept Iris, and the new male sidekick was some sort of French-like Pokemon Baker or Pokemon Musician. He could always be baking them lots of bread using fire Pokemon if he were the Baker, or participate in Pokemon Music Making Competitions of some sort. It'd sure be different... Right?

Maybe not, but most of us know how the anime works by now. At least one of them is going to be replaced.
