    Default Hoenn League

So I've continued watching into season 8 and Ash just won his 8th badge and now he just has to wait 3 months until the Hoenn League starts... now I have a problem with these last episodes I've been watching... Now when season 5 ended I was disappointed to find out that Ash was just going to literally start all over. At first I was almost mad with that because it mad it look like the first 5 seasons were pointless. But now I've come to like seasons 6-8, but the problem is I'm starting to see Ash repeat lessons he learned already back in seasons 1-5. If this keeps up I will just stop watching because those episodes are honestly boring because you already know whats going to happen AND the really annoying part is that most of these episodes I'm seeing are just filler episodes (with those lessons I've already seen in earlier seasons). So with that being said, my point I'm trying to make is why would the writers hold Ash back (even after 8 seasons of experience)? Ash stills shows that he is great but he looked at his best when he beat Gary in the Victory Tournament and now he isn't even as close to as good as that. THOUGH I have noticed that to make up for this the writers have made the gym leaders in Hoenn better than the ones back in Jhoto and Kanto (considering 4-5 of the badges Ash got in Kanto were not even earned by winning via battle).

Please give me your thoughts on why the writers are delaying Ash becoming great.

P.S. - I have also heard that this is the case in those Unova seasons as well. So again please give me your thoughts.

Yes, he doesn't win the league - but his accomplishment directly after that in winning the Battle Frontier is more than enough in terms of demonstrating success. It's also something shown in later episodes to be a very rare achievement - unlike Pokemon leagues which presumably occur fairly frequently and your chance of winning depends more on your luck of the skill of your opposing trainers than it does your own strength.

Starting all over, while sure it's mostly to just promote the new Pokemon in the new games, serves to allow Ash to find his ability to develop new and different Pokemon - if he just had 10 or so Pokemon covering the main type match ups and constantly trained those up, he might win a league, but could you say he achieves his goal of being a Pokemon Master by only mastering a few Pokemon and not a wide variety?

Except for in Unova where Ash more or less loses everything and doesn't show much achievement in anything - all the other regions don't disappoint me because Ash didn't win the league, it's a minor point in the overall series.

This is odd. Everyone I know saw the fact that the pokemon ACTUALLY EVOLVE in Hoenn to be a sign of improvement from Ash. I don't remember it well enough to know if all the poke lessons were still piled on him. I could swear they piled them on May since Ash was supposed to be the more experienced one now. However, I do know that Ash still makes mistakes that he made in the past. Many also find that the matter that Ash repeats his feat in Johto in Hoenn with JUST his Hoenn pokes to also be an achievement. You don't need to imagine what would've happened if he did use his old pokes because the Battle Frontier will answer that for you.

Ash didn't sucessfully beat the Hoenn League, but he evolved his Pokémon rather than keeping them cutesy (except Pikachu). Really, it was more of a success than the Kanto, Johto, and Unova leagues.

Cause if he wins the show will be over, since he would have attained his goals and they wanna keep the show going as long as possible. :/

I hope this guy realizes Ash loses the next two leagues as well.

The reason they re-set ash every season is £££££ and the reason the fillers seem repetitve is beacause each season they make it like its the first time your watching pokemon to attract younger viewers.

Can i recommen skipping the filers if you find them boring and repetitive ? if you know whats going to happen 5 minutes in just move along to the next one, its what i do when i watch online saves alot of wasted time..

Like I said in your last thread, watch the Sinnoh episodes. That's where things got good.
I have claimed the Spell Tag and Kasib Berry, along with Adaptability and Shadow Ball. I have also claimed Gastly.

If you think Nintendo need to sue PETA up the ass for making Pokemon Black and Blue, copy and paste this into your sig.

I don't think that winning a League would mean that the show would be over. Ash won the Battle Frontier and in my opinion, that was more impressive than winning a region League. Plus, winning a League wouldn't make Ash a Pokemon Master. Just winning the Champion League is one step to that goal. I don't think that they want Ash to win a region League because they still want to have Ash start fresh in a new region with each generation and it's easier to do that with Ash losing the League, rather than losing the Champion League. I also don't think that Ash could defeat any of the Elite 4 members anyway.

While I haven't seen it in a long time, I remember enjoying the Hoenn League. Ash doing that well with just his Hoenn team was a good step forward for his progress as a trainer. The Sinnoh League might be better, if only for the awesome full battle against Paul and Pikachu vs. Latios, but the Hoenn League was pretty solid from what I remember.

I fully agree with the first point, that Ash winning a regional league tourney wouldn't have to end the show or Ash's journey. I know I've brought up the idea before that Ash could win a league tourney and go on his next journey with a rookie trainer who becomes the next league chalenger, with Ash as the mentor Brock was to him.
