The difference is that the writers explained how the Champion League is supposed to work. The system isn't that different than the in-game Elite Four, with the exception of the league requirement.

When it's explained? It could have different rules in Isshu.

    2. Team Rocket: 706 episodes
    3. Takeshi/Brock: 630 episodes
    4. Kasumi/Misty: 280 episodes
    5. Hikari/Dawn: 201 episodes
    6. Haruka/May: 197 episodes
    7. Masato/Max: 192 episodes
    8. Iris: 108 episodes
    9. Dent/Cilan: 104 episodes
    10. Kenji/Tracey: 43 episodes

In Sinnoh, which is the only region where the Elite Four weren't just an afterthought. I suppose the system could be different in Unova, but that's a moot point since there is no plausible way for Ash to win the league with no more than two episodes after the fourth round.

Seems like we've got at most five episodes left of the league (given that the N arc is due to start on Januray 17th. Going by that...

December 6th: Kibago gets friggin' lost again!
    December 13th: Satoshi vs. Kenyan
    December 20th: Satoshi vs. Kotetsu
    December 27th: Break
January 3rd: What I'm guessing will Satoshi vs. Virgil
    Januray 10th: League wrap-up

Going by that, Satoshi will make at least the Top 8. If there's a quick, mostly off-screen match next week then he'll make it to the Top 4. But sadly, it seems the chances of Satoshi actually winning this league have plummeted in my opinion.

But hey, at least we're getting a Kibago episode next week. Isn't it nice that even in the league Iris can steal screen time from the main character (!)

Is there really a break on the 27th? I find it hard to believe that Ash vs. Kotetsu will just be one episode. Either that, or Ash vs. Virgil will be one episode (in which case, I probably won't be surprised).

For the last time, Ash Vs. Kotetsu is for the Top 8. Ash Vs. Virgil is for the Top 4.

However if they throw in a skipped COTD battle inbetween, Ash Vs. Virgil can be the finals.

Satoshi defeated Trip which got him to the Top 64, defeating Kenyan will get him to the Top 32, defeating Kotetsu will get him to the Top 16... so it doesn't look to me like he's going to make it to the Top 4. Hell, if there's no skipped battle then he won't even make the Top 8.

Ash is going to be battling a CoTD in the second round.

The N episodes premier on the 17th of Jan. BW107 airs on the 20th of Dec. That ep is the start of the Kotetsu battle. That is a round 4 battle which is the top 16. If there is a break on the 27th, that leaves 2 more eps for the league, one on the 3rd, one on the 10th. 2 eps is not enough time for Ash to beat 3 opponents in full battles and win the league, keeping in mind that the start of BW108 will most likely be the conclusion of the Kotetsu battle. 3 episodes wouldn't be enough for that. There would have to be 2 skipped/rushed 6 v 6 battles battles for Ash to face Virgil in the final, since it makes no sense for Ash to beat a COTD in the final. That would be a horrible way to conclude the league and for Ash to get his 1st league win. And if there are 2 skipped battles, who the hell is he supposed to face? They're not going to have 2 full COTD battles after the Kotetsu battle against randoms, since that would make them seem more important than Kotetsu. If they had wanted Ash to Progress further, they would have left his rivals until later in the league or lowered the number of competitors or had more rushed battles earlier on.

All signs point to Ash not winning, and most likely ending with a Top 8 spot.

Uhm, I usually always find a way to get to your points, but not this time. How did you reach to such conclusion? D:

Uhm, there's no telling Ash vs Kotetsu will just be one episode, but also there's no telling they will air just one episode on that day. They can extend the battle to two episodes and show them in a row.

He didn't; he's just spouting what he wants to happen for no reason, as he always does.

It looks to me like Ash is definitely going to lose in the top 8, based on what we know.

Ash loosing in top 8 this series is fitting considering his character development did go backwards this season.

Compared to Ash loosing to Virgil for an Eevee promotion the idea of Ash loosing to a Darakrai character coming out of no where doesn't seem as I thought it was.

It's hard for me to believe he's going to lose to an Eevee, but I simply can't imagine any other situation that can save Ash. Sigh. n_n

Also, the idea of losing to a Darkrai is ironic. I mean, he must have nightmares about "I COULD'VE WON THAT **** NGHHHHH NOW LOOK AT ME MAN"

Again, unless Ash loses to Kotetsu..he is going to get Top 4:

Prelims - Top 128: Ash vs Trip
Round 1 - Top 64 (This is considered R1 by the summaries): Ash vs CoTD
    Round 2 - Top 32: Ash vs CoTD/Stephan
    Round 3 - Top 16: Ash vs CoTD/Stephan
Round 4 - Top 8: Ash vs Kotetsu (confirmed)

the bad point is that Eevelutions are soooo old fashioned... lose against the dog whisperer would be so anticlimatic (even more if Pikachu loses against Eevee... would be like a Hoenn league 2 ¬¬ damn cat ... ) would be funny if Ash was on track to win the league, and TP interrupts the final battle as happens in BW XD ...
