Besides, in the end I imagine it will be the normal Eevee who ends up being the most important... In which case whatever other evolutions end up participating in Ash's defeat will be largely irrelevant. The two missing ones can be shown defeating Virgil's prior opponent's, or something.
I don't know what to make of the whole Ash vs Virgil and whether or not Ash will lose against him. I think that if one of the league competitors revealed thus far is going to eventually knock Ash out of the league, it is most likely going to be this Virgil kid. The only other possiblilty I am considering at this point, as well as hoping for is another Tobias-esque trainer preferably with a monster Hydreigon, possibly a female trainer would be the one to beat Ash. I wouldn't count on the latter happening as by know we would have some info on a hidden trainer who will appear at the league. So while i'm hoping another Tobias is going to be pulled off here, I would say that Ash is most likely to lose to Virgil as much as I hate to admit it.
Of course they don't, but perhaps a certain something will...
Patience. The League's beginning, let alone the final battle, is still over a month away. The single promoted Pokemon shall come in due time.
So since this Looks like a one on one and there is a limit to how much they can stretch it this begs the question what's going on for the bulk of the episode. I guess they can recycle the Moltres flame plot AGAIN or it is possible we might get a couple Cotd v rival fights

Its still possible for a 3 on 3 at least.
I won't mind if the first few fights are one on one as long as that doesn't include Ash vs Bianca, since there's little of interest in those match-ups anyway. I do hope that we get the usual full battles later though, since Best Wishes has yet to have any. It'd be neat if some of the later rounds were Triple Battles, similar to how the Hoenn league had Doubles rounds, since we haven't had any of those other than that crappy one with the Maractus.
I could see them use rotation battles somehow; you just need a rotating stage. And switching between your Pokemon would be like tagging in/switching in.
I bet the Eevee wins, not its evolutions.
