So much for Trip being Ash's ultimate opponent. I wonder how well Bianca will do now.

You're assuming though, true it could be a thought process or flashback-y type thing but you can't state for fact it represents the league as a whole or Satoshi VS. Shooti won't be round 1. It could be a practice battle, we don't know.

Ash and Trip are not battling in the first round of the tournament, it is ridiculous that they would get the most important rivalry done first.

Kinda interesting they're getting Satoshi VS. Shooti over in the first round, it certainly is something different from the norm.

I don't see how it is remotely likely that Ash will lose and the league will be over (as far as Ash is concerned) after just two episodes. The other rivals were developed/introduced for a reason, and Ash should have some accomplishment.

Pikachu can win against Serperior.

No seriously, I WANTED THIS MATCH TO BE FIRST. It's probably not going to be in the preliminary round, of course, but DAMN I hope Ash/Trip is the Top 64 match or some number heinously below 16. THAT WAY I CAN LAUGH EVEN MORE. Trip can enjoy a ranking and be on par with Nando. :P

Of course, this is going to last two episodes (for how little they've built this rivalry up, they can't get away with making it three again), rather than one episode/ten minutes like I wanted, BUT HEY, TRIP'S GOING FIRST. His trend as the guy other than Burgundy who always loses the first round of tournaments has been reborn!

I think this is the writers admitting trip was a dud, hopefully ash get's a female rival soon :)

Inb4 this league is only 4 episodes long, and only has 16 competitors...aka just another Don Battle Tournament.

And so it starts but unexpectedly and expectedly(as its Best Wishes) its Ash vs Trip first up... It starts with this ep and ends next.. Dont know wat happened to qualification rounds but i hope 1st round of Ash vs Trip is atleast 3vs3 as we get more info on the league eps... Nice to see Ash going Pikachu with against Trip's Serperior eventhough type matchup negates Ash's selection of electric..
One thing is very well realistic and true; that is the season of BW:Rival Destinies is justified 100%.. Trip's destiny was to fight Alder(not to win the league) and it was over in junior world cup,, so no use of continuing with Trip.. Iris's was to be a dragon master and its somewhat done by making her battle with Drayden.. So it comes to the star performer Ash and his destiny as we all know is to be pokemon master(here winning the league).. It doesnt mean Trip is a moron or somethi lik tat,, since his role is over in BW the writers just throwing him away besides Ash has many rivals(4 other than Trip).. Its upto Ash to win with his pika-pika.. I sincerely hope its a nice one :)

So Ash is battling his main-Isshu rival Trip in the first round? this could only mean one of two things ether Ash is going to win the league or...

At the last minute One Virgil's Eevees, Kotetsu's Lucario, Bel's emboar or worse a Tobias 2.0 will end up blasting him out of the league

What!? Well, that's the perfect ending. Your failure is now complete. This now means he's more likely to be taken out by Samurott kid or Eevee dude. Well, Eevee was already a likely candidate, but now I have to concede that Ash clone can do it, too. I might even entertain Bianca as well, but that's only slightly less embarrassing than being taken out by Richie/Morrison 2.0.
