There's too many edits in the English dub for that to work.

I wonder if it would be possible for TPCi to buy the rights to those movies so they could control all of the movies like they can in Japan?
To be honest, I'm not sure who has the rights to the first three movies at this point. WB's rights to sell them seem to have expired (long story), so now they're actually out of print.

As for the TV show, I wouldn't put it past them to do more episodes in the future, depending on the amount of effort and cost involved. Pokemon's probably one of the few (perhaps the only) show with film-based episodes still in production, so we'll see what happens.

The Japanese DVDs for movies 1-3 have always had the dub audio track on them.

How exactly did that work with all the edits done?

Well I believe (although don't take this as gospel) there was only one point in the first 3 movies that was actually cut out and thus, remained undubbed - and that was about 10 seconds of Tracey dialogue in 2000. And I don't recall where on these boards I saw this written - but the dub track was just completely silent for that time.

Has anyone been able to confirm whether the English version of the first three movies will be included again? just over a week until the Blu-Ray set is been released.

I noticed several screenshots of the content in a Japanese Blog, when searching for more details.

So I guess no-one actually pre-ordered this set? I was hoping to get more information soon, as this is a limited edition.

    I got the set.

I haven't had a chance to go through all the discs yet, but everything I've seen of it so far points to this being a bare bones set. No trailers, no textless openings / endings, no character model sheets or pre-production sketches, none of the location hunting footage, no commentaries, no English track for the first three movies (they've been included on every DVD release of those three)...nothing. The menu options are "Play (2.1 Audio Track)," "Play (5.1 Audio Track)," "Chapter Menu," and "Back to Main Feature."

At least the video quality is nice.

They might have been in a time crunch to get it out this year and not had time/resources to flesh them out.

I suppose it depends how much is behind the video quality being nice - if there's a full remastering of the movies, that's a lot of time and effort on its own, and probably doesn't leave much time for more. If it's just okay like the US Blu-Rays of the early movies, then that's a bit poor.

I must acquire this, should they decide to do this with the dubs. I'd love to have my favorite movies all bundled up in one presumably-HD package. I don't own any of them, so having them all on Blu-ray would be awesome.

No "early movies" were released on Blu-Ray in US, unless you mean movies 4 and 5 which were upscales, therefore a waste of money.

It's sad to hear that all interesting stuff has been removed. Very sad.

4 and 5 on the Miramax Blu-Rays definitely look like native HD film transfers to me (though 4's left a fair bit to be desired).

The lack of English versions for Pokemon movie 1 - 3 is disappointing, looks like I won't be buying this set. If only there were English subtitle scripts available, that could be used with these Blu-Rays.

If movie 4 and 5 were based off a film source, then it was old poor quality film prints, that had not been kept in good condition.

Echo Bridge (not Miramax) aren't known for quality Blu-Ray releases, so I doubt any of their four Pokemon movies came from a good quality film source. I wonder if there are even high quality films prints available of the English versions, I wouldn't be surprised if the older movies had not been kept in good condition.
