A more grand sense of adventure
Better battles that weren't drawn out, nor did they try too hard to be "epic", which they're not (that last part is not referring to OS battles, in case some people are confused).
Marketing didn't get in the way of putting out a good quality product crafted with effort and passion.
Aimed at a wider age range, which meant there was something for everyone.
Actual emotion that wasn't forced (both characters and stories).
    Best character interactions.
More iconic Pokemon, as well as better personalities for them (well, most of them).
    Add to this:
    Slapstick Humor
    Great dub BGM
    Excellent JPN BGM
Dub very faithful to original JPN version in Kanto
Kanto Poke-rap (The best one- my worst are the Hoenn Pokerap (not "Take the Challenge") and Unova Pokerap).
Strayed more from the games and established its own identity

I'm trying to get what actually trumps in Kanto compared to the other sagas in my view. Other than the music and that it was the first series, that's about all I can think of. For those who know more and disagree with me, see above lists from other members:

Is it sad that I didn't remember "Take the Challenge"? :P
Can't believe I forgot to add "humor", thought I did, oh well. Better music is a plus, too.
That last one was kind of already listed XP

Don't worry about that one-- I didn't even remember it at all until I saw a vid of it on Youtube.

Anyway, I think Shinji Miyazaki's BGM was best in OS. That's why I didn't care that 4Kids was replacing his JPN AG BGM with his OS BGM. It made the Hoenn Seasons feel more classic in the dub, IMO. :)

Well in the OS Brock actually had a purpose in the series, unlike AG and especially DP.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but Wobbuffet was actually funny.

Lickitung was my favorite Jessie pokemon. I liked that about Kanto and hate that about Johto.

Lickitung was pretty cool, too bad she couldn't have both Lickitung and Wobbuffet...

It was an actual children's comedic tv show in the OS, rather than marketing. The filler episodes were more "lol look at what Ditto does" or "random adventures of Wobbuffet" as opposed to "here's a D/P episode with Sunflora/Totodile in it to advertise the new remake games"

Uh, they did blatantly make an episode to say, "Look at what Ditto does."

How is that filler any different than any later one?

The only thing that Os did better then everything else is begining the series. Everything else I can think about OS is that the other series did better with story, charater, Devloment, humor and the battles.

The earlier ones have more substance is what I think he's trying to get across.

For me, the non-game based Japanese TV show music, especially in Kanto. Although it helped that there was more in the original series, especially in Kanto.
    Seasons =/= Regions

Yeah, and I'd also add that the earlier episodes were more creative with what they showed the Pokemon do. I mean, Ditto actually had an arc, which paralleled with the human character--Duplica. Many later episodes were just "cool pokemon does cool things," but it didn't really have a full-blown arc.

Let's put it this way: remember when Gyarados was introduced? First Magikarp appeared, and they had a whole gag about that. Then, they built up how useless it was...and then, just at the height of its worthlessness--GYARADOS! Not only that, but then it actually did something. Quick appearance, but...damn! And the results of one Pokemon's temper tantrum affected the next four or so episodes.
