Thread: Ash's Dad

As much as I like Riley, he really can't be Ash's father. He looks way too young to have had a ten year old kid running around. Personally, I never really cared about finding out who Ash's father is and I don't think it's really that important for him to appear or to have some important role. He could just be traveling around aimlessly for all we know and it wouldn't really have an impact on the series or Ash's character.

Riley could easily be older than he looks. Maybe all the aura he's channeling keeps his appearance young?

Byron states ingame that Riley's age is unknown and he is a "mysterious fellow". There's a possibility Riley is near Byron's age and the aura is keeping his looks young and smooth. Since Byron has a twenty-year-old son, Riley could well be just ten years younger than Byron or so

I really don’t think Ash’s dad should be in the anime. From an appropriate content angle, I imagine the subject of divorce would cause some problems in a kid’s show. As for the character development angle, there are more problems. First, it can be assumed that Ash’s father left in order to be a Pokemon trainer. He chose Pokemon over his own family. How do you think Ash would react to reuniting with his father? That would be quite awkward, especially in the presence of people such as Iris and Cilan, I doubt their characters could react to the events in a way that is both convincing and moves the plot along. You’ll notice there is a reason why Ash’s mother appears so few times in the anime. Already, that’s enough of Ash’s parents. We don’t need Ash, who is typically portrayed as dedicated, courageous, enthusiastic, and INDEPENDENT to be with his parents all the time.

Let's just assume that Ash's father had an unfortunate accident that resulted in his death at the hands of a swarm of wild Weedle. He accomplished nothing in life save fathering a child and his prize Snorlax ran away to sit in front of the Bicycle Road for all its days. I mean, yes, Riley could be Ash's dad in theory- but that'd be the boring, "chosen one" route and is about as original as Gio or Lugia being Ash's father.

BTW, is there a reason why I can't vote in a poll?

In the very first episode of pokemon, Ash is watching TV and on the TV it shows a Pokemon League battle in which the two trainers were blacked out so you could not see their faces or what they were wearing. One trainer had a Nidorino and the other had a Gengar. My theory is that one of these trainers could be Ash's father.

Ash's dad is Arceus. Ash is the Pokechrist. Arceus help us all.

May be he is the Champion of the Kanto region in the anime. Who knows...

He's the trainer that took the squirtle from Professor Oak. He started his journey 5 days before Ash.

Gary is his dad? But he took Squirtle the same day that Ash started his journey.

Theres a few possibilties on this i think,for me Spencer Hale(character from the unown & Entei movie) looks quite a bit like Ash.But other possibilties i've heard are prof. oak,Giovanni,Koga and Alder.

I would think that it would be more likely for him to pop up as some sort of nomadic traveler/adventurer epic trainer.

Then again, just because they said he was out on an adventure doesn't mean that that adventure had anything to do with him being a trainer.

Anyway, Ash's Dad is only mentioned once in the anime, all the way back in the second episode.

Wasn't that only in the 4KIDS dub?
