According to Takeshi Shudo's Novelizations Ash's Dad is a Pokémon Master on his journey to be the very best...so if Pokémon Master means World Champion, Ash will confront him at the end of the series to claim the Pokémon Master title. I think Ash's Dad is a character like Jin Freaks (Gon's father in HunterxHunter), the best Pokémon Trainer (Best Hunter) surrounded by mystery, also in Takeshi Shudo's Novelizations Delia bought Ash a computer when he was little, the Ashy-Boy searched on the official Pokémon League Site some information on his father and grandfather, but he didn't find anything, Delia told him that was because his father and his grandfather were Pokémon Masters...in HunterxHunter Gon searched about his father on the official Hunters Site, but he didn't find anything....If Ash's father is a Pokémon Master and Ash is based on Red, I think that he must be something like Red, Red is also a Pokémon Master in games. Who helped Prof. Oak in Anime to complete the Pokédex? Who stopped Madame Boss in the gold era of Team Rocket? I think I know the answer...

ash's dads debut should be in a Maury style show where they have his father and two other COTDs claiming to be his father and his father is revealed to be the world pokemon master and realizes that ash's father is Red

Ash's father should be introduced in a "Luke, I am Your Father" situation. And Ash would say, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

And the series ends.

Ash's father was nothing more than a throw away line. I never understood why people sat there thinking there was going to be some sort of epic storyline with Ash's father showing up.

Its not a plothole whatsoever, its random fans making a big deal out of nothing.

I've always started to think this mostly because of the fact that most of the first few episodes of the Original series usally featured things that never are reference or happen again. (Like Ash Falling in Love with a girl, the pokedex used for trading, the mentioning of pokemon levels, that Damian trainer having more than 6 pokeballs and many other things.)

Although I do think that If the series did ended early after the Indigo League Ash's dad could have shown up near or at the end of the planned finale (if the series did'nt go on as long as it did).

Ash's dad could be that Riley guy the gang met on Iron Island.

I think Ash's father is a professor, much like male protagonist who has professor father ._.

A gym Leader fits in this case..it should be directed in such a manner that Ash makes his journeys via different tournaments... so one big tournament should be held where Ash's dad should be featured as Gym leader who already knows that Ash is his son....Finally, there should be one match between both of them at the end of which his father will reveal his true identity mentioning how proud he feels for his son who got such a great pokemon career :D
