Chapter 17: King of All I Look Upon

    Kayi

"I am the king of all I look upon," the Pokemon Prince muttered, surveying the town of Bulbagarden from the balcony of Town Hall.

"Not king," I said jokingly. "Mayor."

"For now," he said, turning to me and grinning wickedly. "But not for long. All is going according to plan. The escapees will alert the UN of our 'illegal' activities."

"But... isn't that a bad thing?" I said, confused.

"Not at all," he said. "The UN will spend months deliberating over what to do, leaving us time to raise an army. I've already begun drafting the papers. Within two weeks, Bulbagarden will be an independent state."

"That's the plan?" I asked. "Declare independence so the UN can't touch us?"

"Oh no," he laughed. "The UN will never recognize our independence. They'll send a militia to retake us as soon as their partisan nonsense reaches a conclusion. But we will fight and defeat them, and then spread our influence farther. Before long, the whole of the world will be under our control."

I attempted a smile. To be honest, I was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with all this. So much had changed since Matkin and I had met the Prince two years ago. I wasn't so sure I wanted a part of this anymore.

    Feli

"So that's how it happened, eh?" said Nelson, leaning back on his desk. I nodded.

"See, this is why electing a leader who claims to be a deity is a bad idea," Nelson sighed. "Bound to lead to trouble."

"We have to help my friends," I insisted. "Somehow."

"Well, there is one way," said Nelson with a grin. "Go into hiding. Form a resistance. Good old fashioned guerilla warfare. Rebel from the inside."

"Well, I certainly don't have many options left," I admitted. "Why are you being so helpful, anyway?"

"Are you kidding?" he said with a tile of the head. "I relish any break from the everyday monotony of life. I eagerly await any chance to follow the advice of a very wise woman."

    "And what would that be?"

"Take chances; make mistakes; get messy!" he smiled again. "Ms. Frizzle, the Magic School Bus."

    Dan

The gleaming white metal of the Tour Internationale - the International Tower - loomed over the van containing our motley crew. It was an awe-inspiring sight, or it would be if not for the distracting need to let the world leaders that a huge asshole with a god complex was currently mucking about with our town.

Saturn and Sato had enough connections to get us an immediate audience with the UN council, which was cool. Having to wait would be pretty counter-productive.

The council was made up of delegates and representatives from each of the world's nations, presided over by an elected chairman. The chairman at the time was Lance Draak, a stone-faced, red-haired main who wore a cape for some reason I can't figure out. Whatever, it looked cool.

We recounted the whole tale to the council, from Ali's kidnapping - oh, sorry, disappearance - to our escape.

Lance did not emote once the entire time.

When we were done, he took a deep breath and said, "this news you bring us is most troubling. The council will deliberate on this matter thoroughly, and inform you of our decision when that is completed. You may leave us now."

"It's the damned bureaucracy," Saturn sighed as we left the chamber. "Too much deliberation. With a topic this important, they'll go on scrutinizing for at least a year."

"A year?!" Jabber exclaimed. "That's outrageous!"

"We knew this when we set out," Saturn reminded him. "We can use the year to search for Alison."

    Jabber remained quiet.

The council chamber was located in the pod at the tower's top, so to get up and down there was a long, boring elevator ride. With Lady GoLem playing in the background.

An upside of this was that there was plenty of time to coordinate our plans.

"Do we have any leads?" Jay asked. "Any at all?"

Jabber's eyes widened. "Water Pokemon Master," he said slowly. "He kidnapped Ali before - he was getting revenge on her father for busting his battle ring. Me and an Interpol agent called Looker took him down and freed Ali, but he escaped and swore vengeance on me. Maybe he wasn't the most original criminal in the world."

"So we find a criminal kingpin and ask him to please give Jabber's girlfriend back," said Tyler, rolling his eyes. "First problem: how do we find him in the first place?"

"WPM will have surrounded himself in a web of intrigue," said Sato. "It may take us the whole year to find him - but I know where to start."

"And where is that?" Kitty asked.

"An old pal of mine in Viridian City," Sato replied. "He can get you the dirt on just about anyone - for a price."

    "What's his name?" prompted Saturn.

"Petrel," said Sato. "His name is Petrel."

    Feli

"We'll need a base of operations," I said.

"My family's old mansion uptown," said Nelson. "It was willed to me, but I never moved in because I hate my family."

    "And recruitment?"

"We'll figure that out as we go along."

"You're crazy, you know that?" I said with a small smile.

"Yep," he confirmed. "And I wouldn't have it any other way."

Next Time: Jabber and company begin uncovering the trail to Water Pokemon Master, and the resistance performs its first operation! Be there for Chapter 18: "Against The Current!"

I know, but the line coming from Nelson's mouth just made it out of pure win Chuck Norris.

Pure Captain Jack is more like it. Chuck Norris is overrated, Jack Harkness isn't.

    ^^
Actually, you're all outdone by Robert DeNiro. Even in his horrific failure, Little Fockers, he's still badass in every frciking role he's in. He's the motherfucking Godfather. Also, I need a role in this fic. (even if I die a quick, unforseen and horrific death and is not cared about afterwards)

What do you mean "Bulbagarden's History?"

And Captain Jack is outclassed by no man. He is literally immortal.

What about Jack Sparrow? He was almost immortal, then gave it up. And he's Magnificent Bastardy incarnate.

You realize you have to sign up, right? And that he's probably not taking any more submissions at this point?

The magic school bus line was just hilarious.
Can't wait to see what the resistance is planning. The Petrel thing was a bit of a shock though. Nice touch!
