HGSS's anti-piracy pretty much worked in a way as so to freeze up the game after a certain number of events, subject to a formula that escapes me at the moment. But I can tell you this - unpatched, after you hit 3 badges, it would start freezing after every 3 events or so. With none, you'd be able to play more or less freely, and I think you got just under 30 events before a freeze with 1.
Of course, anti-piracy can only go so far. Not a matter of if, but a matter of when. Lots of games have bizarre and fun anti-piracy though, including Earthbound and Spyro 3 (which took 3 months to be cracked IIRC). Crysis had a fun one too - if you had an unpatched pirated copy, every gun in the game would shoot chickens. Puggsy or something on the Genesis has an interesting way of handling it - if it detects .srm (which most pirate carts had, regardless of whether the game used it or not), it stops you from playing after one level.
Don't know what to put here.
it really won't deter piracy, but it is pretty funny. is it in the japanese version as well? i've never seen that demonstrated, just the english version.
If you search "by the way if you like this game buy it or die pokemon" you will find out it's in the game code of some of the old games. (;
where exactly does this appear :P?
Haha, oh wow.
