Thread: "By the way, if you like this game, buy it or die."

Bulbapedia says that this text appears when using the Seagallop Ferry in a ROM of FireRed. However, I played through my ROM until I activated the Seagallop Ferry, and the guy doesn't say anything unusual when I try to ride. Besides, it seems very unlikely that a message like that would appear in a Pokémon game. Does anyone have screenshots/videos to prove it?

I'm guessing some smartass stuck it in some of the ROMs and circulated it. This doesn't seem like the kind of stunt NOA would actually pull.

You can see the text if you rip a ROM straight from the real GBA cartridge, so NOA is clearly responsible.

It's likely displayed if something in the SRM or VRAM or something doesn't match up with that of a normal Gameboy Advance, but since emulation has since advanced (or you're using something like a GBA BIOS to make it exact), that little check doesn't get triggered. I'm not certain of the specifics; it's been a while.

An interesting piece of text is found in Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen by playing a dumped ROM of the game-
"By the way, if you like this game, buy it or die."

Does any other game in the series have similar text like this to avoid piracy?

I saw this a long time ago on Bulbapedia. I find it kind of funny, but I don't see how it'll convince people to avoid piracy.

Nothing like this appears in any other Pokemon game as far as I know.

The exact same thing I believe. I also think it's either at Olivine or Vermillion Harbor.
