Nowadays, every Pokemon has its own unique image, but back in Gen I, there were maybe 5 to 10 different icons shared between all of the Pokemon. One looked like a deer facing forward. Another looked like a flower with a face. There was a snake and a bug. Another looked like Rhydon, or those statues outside of the Indigo Plateau. In Yellow, if I'm not mistaken, they added a unique one just for Pikachu.

In any event, I can't find those old Gen I icons anywhere, and more importantly, which Pokemon used which icons. Some are obvious--most bug types are going to use the bug icon--but if there's a resource out there that kept track of this, could someone point me in that direction?
Those icons are what showed you what egg group a pokémon was in. With a little research I believe it could be fairly easy to determine what Pokémon were represented by what icon. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I do not. And even if I did, I don't have the Pokedex filled. Ah well... Thank you for doing what you could!

I'm pretty sure this holds true for Gen II, when they added egg groups, but there were far fewer icons in Gen I, and egg groups didn't exist yet.

Instead of "what" do you mean "if"? The Hoenn Generation III games have batteries in them but the consequences of them running out of power aren't as bad as in Generation II. In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald the clock will stop running when the battery runs out but the game can still be played. This will keep a constant tide in Shoal Cave.

The reason i put "what" in there instead of if is because i knew a few of the GBA games had batteries in them.
And my new question is what is pal park and what do i have to do to get my platinum and heart gold to trade together?

No, B2/W2 do not have a VS Seeker. Just as with B/W, there are only certain people you can re-battle.

Pal Park is how you transfer Pokemon from any Gen III game (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green) to any Gen IV game (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, Soul Silver). To use Pal Park, you must first select "Migrate from _______" from the main menu when you have a Gen III cartridge inserted into the GBA slot. Then you select any 6 Pokemon that's stored in the PC and they will be transferred to the Pal Park in your Gen IV game, as long as they don't know any HM moves. Then simply go to the Pal Park in your Gen IV game and catch all 6 Pokemon.

In order to trade between Platinum and Heart Gold, you'll need two DSes and a wifi connection, as well as the Pal Pad in both games. Make sure you have the friend code of the other game registered in the Pal Pad (Platinum's friend code in Heart Gold's Pal Pad, and vice versa). Then have both games enter the Wi-Fi Club, which is located in the basement of the Pokemon Center, and interact with the other game's character to begin trading.

So no special requirements like having the national pokedex?

The National Pokedex is not required for trading. Only the Regional Pokedex.

Pal Park, however, does require the National Pokedex in both games.

You get it the first time you enter the basement of the Pokemon Center, after earning the second badge.

first off, welcome to the site :D if u have BW id love to battle some time. ik unrelated, but i greet everyone that way.

now to your question, if you want to put the effort in, dratini is very worth training. my dragonite in my most recent SS playthrough is my best pokemon by far. its an immensely useful pokemon, easily addaptable to any battle.

Should I carry on my Soul Silver with my Tauros, Ursaring or Dratini?
The Downside to Dratini is that you can' expect to train him all the way to LEVEL 55 before challenging the E4 -.-

    Edit:

well, yes. but by the levels of the E4, you probably should train it to atleast 50 something. meaning itd likely evolve mid E4. if its fast and knows a good dragon move, it can sweep lances most powerful dragons like mine did.
