I'm using the first generation of pokemon games as an example for an algorithm I made for my thesis. Part of the algorithm is to find everything that could possibly happen within a round of the game. I'm using gen 1 since it would be the simplest.

For example, if I have a pokemon that is paralyzed two possibilities can come from that: I can't attack for the turn, or I can attack that turn.
If I'm confused and paralyzed that's three things:

    Nothing bad happens
    I'm hurt myself in confusion
I can't attack due to paralysis

On top of predicting what could happen, I also need to be able to find the probabilities of each outcome happening.

I can find the probabilities for each affect (move accuracy, chance to be confused), but I'm having a tough time understanding each step that the game goes through. Does it check for confusion before paralysis? Does it check for both? If it does check for both, what's a higher priority for the game, being hurt by confusion or being unable to move? These are the questions I'm having a tough time answering. Also, this is for the full turn, so that can include differing outcomes caused by the opposing pokemon.

I'm hoping to have a simple list looking something like this:

    Compare speed
Check for confusion on faster pokemon
Check for paralysis on faster pokemon
Check for move accuracy on faster pokemon
Check for flinching on slower pokemon
    ...

    Any ideas?
Well, because there is a 30% chance for paralysis and a 50% for confusion, and paralysis beats confusion,
    Nothing bad happens = 35% = 0.7*0.5
    Can't attack due to paralysis = 30% = 0.3
    Hurt self due to confusion = 35% = 1-0.7*0.5+0.3

    1. Check for Paralysis
    2. Check for Confusion if not Paralyzed

Oh, and does anyone know how the AIs work in Red/Blue or Later?
    Dibs on Banette or Wobbuffet.
I claimed Wobbufet! Man, that doesn't sound very exciting.

I don't calculate stat values, and I don't care about natures. I catch my Pokemon the way they are. I just play the game normally. If you agree copy & paste this in your sig.
Write your questions on a $20 bill and send them in to me.
We now return you to your abnormal programming.

    Default Pokemon Colosseum- CORRUPTED

Okay so I have 2 GameCube games- Super Smash Bros Melee and Pokemon Colosseum. I only have 1 memory card, and Melee is saved perfectly fine, but every time I try to play Colosseum, it tells me that the file is corrupted and I have to start a new game, which also ends up getting corrupted as well. Wtf is wrong with it? I've tried playing the game 4 times now, and all the files got corrupted.
    HeartGold FC- 3697 3834 7354
    Platinum FC- 3826 2943 9809
    Black FC- 2623 7586 3462

    Don't mess with L!

Many years ago, I had a similar problem. I had a non-Nintendo-brand memory card for my gamecube that worked perfectly for every game, except for Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. It worked fine with other cards, but just not with the one particular card.

Get yourself another memory card, preferably a Nintendo-branded one, and see if that helps you any. Used game stores may still stock them, and if not, ebay will help you out.

i had the same problem with Gale of Darkness and a MadKatz(sp?) memory cube. I think the official ones, like Satoshi said will fix the problem.

Default help with restrictions for battling via different versions

i would really appreciate help on knowing the restrictions on battling between the following versions: leafgreen, firered, emerald, ruby, yellow, gold and red. I know that in order between leafgreen and emerald for instance, you need to have completed the elite 4 in emerald and completed One Island in leafgreen. so these types of details between all would be very helpful, thankyou! :)

This belongs in Lost Tower SQSA thread, so I've moved this there. In future you can ask questions, that don't need an entire thread, about Gen I, Gen II, Gen III or Gen IV games here in this thread. With Gen V being in a different thread (here).

Question A Quick Question Regarding Move Relearners

Okay, let's so I have a, I dunno, level 35 Weavile. I would love to have Ice Shard, but obviously I can't learn it normally, since only Sneasel learns it, and not until 49 in Gen IV, where this is taking place, and it wasn't bred onto him. Can I use the move relearner to teach this Weavile Ice Shard, or would I need to level him up to the same level first? Or could I teach it to him at all? Because Avalanche on a Weavile is butts and that's the only other physical ice move they can learn.

That would be butts. :( However, I am in Platinum! I didn't think to check Gen IV's tutor list for some reason. :x Thanks for the help, looks like I need to find some shards~ That, and a Game Freak employee to strangle until they give some of these pokemon non-ridiculous movepools. (I'm looking at you, every grass-type.)

I have one of those event Celebi, the one that triggers the Giovanni event in HG/SS. If I trade it from HG to SS, can I use it to trigger the event in both games?

Yes, since it has the fateful encounter flag, it should trigger the event in both games.

What type of internet security does your connection have and what type of DS are you using? Generation IV games can only connect to the internet through a connection which has a WEP key or no security. Generation V games can use DSis and 3DSs to connect to a WPA key connection as well as the types of connections which the original DS and DS Lite can connect to. If you have WPA connection you could buy a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector on the internet but they only work on Windows Vista or older Microsoft computers.

I think I'm WPA. I use a DSi for wi-fi, and have windows seven. If i understood correctly does that mean there is no way to connect my gen IV games to wi-fi

in order for your Gen 4 games to connect, you'll need to change your settings to WEP.
