Default Replaying the old games - How does it feel?

So, recently, I've been replaying Pokémon Red on my GBA-SP, and after completing it I plan on ether playing through Yellow, Blue or Crystal.

I've been wondering, to those who play the old games still, what does it feel like?

Do you like the comparatively simple system, compared to the more recent games?
Is it annoying, or pleasant, that you never run into any post-Gen Pokémon?
Do you prefer the melodies of the old games, rather than the ones of the newer games?

Those aren't really questions, just starting points, I just want to see peoples thoughts on it :3

It feels great. I prefer playing the old 'uns a million times more then I do anything post generation 3 (nostalgiafag, don't care).
I GREATLY prefer the simpler system. I don't have to worry about natures, abilities or any sort of great emphasis on EVs and IVs. I can just catch a mon, raise it however I want to, and not worry about it sucking massively due to the aforementioned features screwing it over.
I'm indifferent to the fact that I never run into any post-gen pokemon. I don't particularly care for 95% of them and their absence is pretty much ignored.
I prefer the melodies of gens 1 and 2 because they're eight bit and memorable. Eight bit music is charming.

I just finished playing my Pokemon Yellow in my old Gameboy Color last month. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it more than playing Pokemon Platinum, lol :p

Do you like the comparatively simple system, compared to the more recent games?
Nah, I prefer the recent games as there's more things to do. I can easily finish a blue version in less than a day. I want a pokemon game that lasts.

Is it annoying, or pleasant, that you never run into any post-Gen Pokémon?
Not annoying at all. I miss the Gen I pokemons anyway. And for the first time, as far as I can remember, I had a Rapidash in my Yellow team. lol..

Do you prefer the melodies of the old games, rather than the ones of the newer games?
I prefer the old school 8 bit music from the old games. I really adore the Lavender Town music. It reminded me of the creepy pasta stories about it. so cool!!

I've been playing my friend's copy of Pokemon Blue, and though the graphics suck, it's so simple that it's refreshing. There aren't a lot of sidequests, catching all the Pokemon is so much easier, nobody tries to take me on the ferris wheel etc.
I'll keep on moving straight ahead!

I still make runs of G.III and G.IV games, even now. I recently even played through Blue and Gold. Gold was full of all sorts of fun nostalgia, and I was able to finally play through one of the original games (while aged a bit, I can appreciate what it would have been like back in the day).

Do you like the comparatively simple system, compared to the more recent games?

Nope. The battle system was already in-depth enough that adding features to flesh it out has only helped it.

Is it annoying, or pleasant, that you never run into any post-Gen Pokémon?
Little of both. It is admittedly a restriction, but it gets me to play using older 'mon that I've always liked but never used. I can deal.

Do you prefer the melodies of the old games, rather than the ones of the newer games?
Pokémon as a series has never had any problems providing quality music. The only reason why they might seem better to me is because of my short-sighted nostalgia glasses.

Anything from G.III or beyond (the ones that I still play every now and then) aren't old enough to have deteriorated from age - they're still enjoyable expeditions through familiar territory. Not quite at the level that the current generation has advanced to, of course, but plenty of fun nonetheless and definitely worth playing now and again. Even G.I and G.II are still quite fun, though their updated re-releases do tend to take precedence.

I never bother with EVs, IVs or whatever anyway, my strategy of playing to Type weakness has never failed me.

The first 251 Pokemon were my favourite but there are some from Gen III and IV I like, since I play SS I mostly encounter Gen I/II Pokemon anyway.

That's where GB Sounds on SS comes in :P All the music is probably on YouTube anyway so I could listen to the old ones off there while playing the new games. Lavender Town music while walking round Morty's Gym anyone?

I just found an old copy of Yellow, and I have been playing it.

It feels like the games have aged well, and I honestly forgot what each TM is. I have to check often. I'm glad that they fixed not having the name next to the number in later games. Plus the bag limit was fixed which was a massive help.

Started playing Pokemon Blue on Pokemon Stadium the other day and It felt great! I miss the old Pokemon generations because I haven't been able to get a Pokemon I'm attached to. Can't wait until I beat White and get the ability to catch the other generations.

To be honest, I'm not much of an EV trainer or IV trainer anyways, so the system doesn't seem "simple". I also sort of enjoy not having so many moves to memorize.

Is it annoying, or pleasant, that you never run into any post-Gen Pokémon?
I don't think that it is annoying, because playing through any game will have restrictions on what Pokemon can be caught, so it doesn't phase me too much as different. And besides, the thing that makes all the regions feel unique is the Pokemon that appear in their respective regions.

Do you prefer the melodies of the old games, rather than the ones of the newer games?
Although I do prefer the more "musical" style of the newer games, who doesn't love a good nostalgia kick? Who doesn't feel their heart flutter the first time the walk down route 1 after many years and running into the ever-familiar cry of a rattata? Or who doesn't feel a little bit of their inner child come out when they hear their character step out of the moving truck for the first time since they were 12 and hear the calming melodies of Littleroot town? Although the new games may be musically better, nothing can beat that feeling when your inner child comes out of hiding.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I think playing the older games is refreshing, and it shows you how far Pokemon has gone as a franchise, and makes you feel how it will always keep going.

Some days it's a good day to die. Other times it's just a good day to have breakfast.

    1. Yes, I also like the glitches and the fact you can speedrun it faster.
    2. I don't care much.
    3. I: Not really. The others (2, 3, and 4) are better then BW's music.

I don't know...it's just...well it feels like AWESOME as it was first, second and n-th time. The old system was more fun,all I do in Black is breed for IV's and the abilities can be very annoying unlike the old games where it was like: Catch>Train>Kick ass.

I love the old games. I bought emerald from my ex-friend (now a jerk) and I recently ordered a firered off of amazon. Somehow, the storylines just seem better. In the old games, there is one goal, and the path to attain it is clear. Eyes on the prize. In the last two generations, the storyline has been made worse (for me) by the addition of a bunch of different quests for legendaries. I even kept my old ds lite (instead of trading it in for a new 3ds, as my dad suggested) just so I could continue playing the third gen games. I actually play than more than gen 5 games.
