    Default Natures and Breeding question

OK, so I just went all over the place trying to find another Ditto because my first one didn't like my Anorith, but they wound up having an egg anyway.

But then I decided to breed my Shuckle. She has a Careful nature, and so does one of the Dittos. Match made in heaven, right? Well, these two don't like each other EITHER! I thought having the same nature would make them compatable!

So how is compatability determined if not by natures then?

That's weird, I thought that anything could breed with dittos.....like no matter what (unless they were unbreedable)

Nature doesn't determine compatability. egg groups do. it still should be able to breed with ditto. the only way 2 pokes won't breed is if the daycare man tells you that they would rather play with other pokemon than each other

Yeah, but I want my eggs to hurry along, which it does if they like each other.

As far as I know, a Pokemon matched with Ditto will never get a "They seem to really like eachother" message. Ever.

Except for certain incompatibles (legendaries, Nidoqueen, etc), Ditto will breed with anything. The only message that denotes that they won't breed is "They prefer to play with other Pokemon". Anything else denotes that an egg will be created.

Yeah, but I want my eggs fast. Saying they don't like each other means the eggs will be really slow.

I think wether they like eachother or not is completely random. (except for incompatible crosses)
And as I sit and talk to you,
I see your face grow white.
The shadow hanging over me is no trick of the light.
The specter on my back will soon be free.
The dead have come to claim a debt from thee.

Um just be patient. Good things come to those who wait...erm or walk 500 steps or so. The same thing happened with my Eevee, I just had to walk a bit more.

Here are the possible breeding-time combinations (barring incompatibles):

    - Different species (even w/in same evo line), same OT IDNo. (slowest; "don't seem to like each other much")

These two are the same: ("seem to get along")
    - Same species, same OT IDNo.
    - Different species, different OT IDNos.

    - Same species, different OT IDNos. (fastest; "seem to get along very well")

    Thus trading is encouraged.

When I get to the point in my breeding schemes where it's time to breed the desired nature into my lines, I use Ditto+Everstone to get the nature on at least one female Pokemon of my desired species, and then give her the Everstone and cross her with my chosen male of the same species (I'll have several from earlier steps in the breeding plan). Then you're breeding two of the same species together for natures ("seem to get along"), and thus you're not waiting around forever for eggs from the "don't seem to like each other much" group. If this is part of a breeding chain toward good stats, always make sure that you hatch at least one female possessing your desired nature before you break up a given pair--the daughter may have better stats than the mother, and she can then pass on both stats AND the right nature.

Everstone passes on the nature? I didn't know that.
