Thread: Most Difficult Gym Leader in each generation?

I swear to Arceus, Fantina is the most stubborn gym Leader EVER. I'm fighting her right now, and her pokemon defy the rules of pokemon! My alakazam did more than 1/2 damage to Driftblim (put it in the yellow), but my second attack leaves a sliver of health. My Blissey did something similar, and her Mismagius never succumbs to the paralysis I gave her! Fantina has used three hyper potions by this point, and she used confuse ray almost every turn! She's the subbornest gym leader ever!

RBY: Ironicly, they were all easy, even with Charmander against Brock and Misty. Wartortle didn't really get to fight Lt. Surge because my other Pkmn killed his, even if it did have to fight Thunderbolt wasn't a problem. Yellow, Brock was a bit of a challenge but everyone else was easy.

GSC: I think you know. Screw Whitney and her Miltank. I remember playing through Gold one time and not being abled to beat her until I evolved Croconaw into Feragilatr! The others were easy, only Bugsy posed a problem with Bayleef (But then again it wasn't too hard). Claire was also a bit of a problem with Dragonair's Dragon Rage Dx

RS: Eh..All of them were easy..maybe Brawly's Makuhita or Norman's 2nd Slaking. Winnona was so-so too.

DPPt: Um..Not really sure..never used Chimchar so not sure, but Mismagius kinda a little hard, maybe Gardenia too..

1. Nobody in RB, Brock was a pain in Y until I figured out there were a number of Pokes you can get that can tear him apart (Butterfree, the Nidorans, Mankey). Beyond that in Yellow, I had trouble with Blaine for whatever reason.

2. Claire. Other than her, the rest were easysauce. Whitney's simple when you use the traded Machop. I believe it is female, and it destroys her.

3. Winona or Norman. My last playthrough I had a definitive answer for both in the form of Hariyama and Breloom, and Gardevoir with Thunderbolt.

4. Fantina can go to hell. I didn't have a very good answer to her ghosts.

I never have trouble with gym leaders in generation 1, except maybe Brock in Pokemon Yellow.

In generation 2, Clair is always my hardest. She's the only one I have to go train to beat. The rest, I just go in, beat them, and come out.

In the third generation, I don't really remember the leaders, since I haven't played in two years but I don't think I ever have trouble with any of them.

And in the fourth generation, the ghost leader is the hardest for me.

Gen 1: (Ok, FR /LG) Misty. I taught Wartortle freakin' Mega Punch to beat her. >.>

Gen 2: Never played,but Miltank sounds like a beast. HG / SS shall reveal all.

Gen 3: Wallace. Me and my training of Blaziken exclusively...

Gen 4: Candice. God that Frosslass is annoying with Snow Cloak, Double Team and supereffective hits on basically everyone in my team. PP stalled the bitch with Staraptor after wasting its Blizzard PP.

Ive really only played Fire red to completion in gen 3(playing sapphire now.) I sold my silver when I was like 15 so I forgot everyone in Gen2. I did play gen 1 but its the same as fire red. I don't have a DS so I can't comment on gen4 either. So ill say what I thought of the Kanto gym leaders.


The gym leader I always had the most problems with in the past was Sabrina, there is just not enough pokemon that are good against psychic and too many that are weak against it. The last play through I found her easier because I power leveled the Mr. Mime you get in an NPC trade. He was higher level than her pokemon and was able to wear her down as both of us kept getting "Not very effective..." attacks

The easiest leader for me would have to be Surge as I always pick up a Geodude in Mt Moon and level it to prepare for him.

Gen 3: Winona, it always takes me a few times to beat her for some reason.

That's how many times it took me to get through her gym puzzle!

Gen 1. Never played, but in FR/LG, it was Brock. Charmander was awesome.

Gen 2. DIE!DIE!DIE!F*** YOU, WHITNEY!!!

Gen 3. In R/S, it was Tate/Liza. My Blazikin was pwned. In Emerald, it was Wattson. My Pokes were level 20, max, and I had to Stun Spore, Leech Seed, switch to Nincada so Shock Wave doesn't work, and SAND ATTACK LIKE CRAZY!

Gen 4. HAHAHAHAHA! Nobody, really.

Gen 1: Nobody. I rocked them all
Gen 2: Fuck you rollout
Gen 3: R/S I had no problem due to mudkipz but had a damn hard time with Blaizken on Tate/Liz
Gen 4: Like 1 I sailed through it.

1: Sabrina. Blast you, Alakazam.
2: Whitney and her rollin' Miltank.
3: Definitely Tate and Liza.
4: Maylene, because it's tough getting past Lucario.

Butterfree can take out rock types? I had trouble with Brock in Yellow and realised I had to go back through viridian forest, get a mankey, go back trhough it again and level it up until it learned fighting moves. My nidorans double kick did not do much at all and that was a pain in the butt as it took so long to get throuhg viridian forest (all pokemon kept fainting when going to get Mankey)

1. Sabrina, she was painful back then. Thank god for the dark type<3

2. Whitney's Miltank. I don't like the gym leader either.

3. I don't know why everyone's going with Tate and Liza, they were pretty easy for me and I chosed Blaziken, which is Fire/Fighting. I had some difficult with Wallace in Ruby, Juan wasn't that hard in Emerald.

4. None of them really, Fantina was the most challenging though, but she wasn't tough.

1. Misty: If you battle her Starmie and your starter was a Charmander, then you know what I mean.

2. Whitney: Let’s put it this way. Miltank+Rollout= EVIL!

3. Norman: His Slaking was a pain to beat.

4. Maylene: One word: Lucario

I must say that I’m really surprised that so many people are picking Fantina as the toughest in Diamond/Pearl, she wasn’t that tough to beat especially since I use my Luxray (who knew Crunch) and Torterra (who knew Bite) against her.
