Thread: Most Difficult Gym Leader in each generation?

*Sigh*
Gen I: Misty, Sabrina and Giovanni in Yellow. Arceus, that last battle was annoying, cause you really couldn't get a single type benefit in-they were all tough as hell.
Gen II: WHITNEY!!! Followed closely by the ghost leader's Gengar and the later mangled MFing Kingdra.
Gen III: Wallace in the eigth gym with his goddamn Milotic, followed closely by The Twins From Hell.

On my Leafgreen game, it took me MONTHS to defeat Koga! On my Pearl, probably Roark. As for my other games, I don't recall having too much trouble with one gym leader but I have a really bad memory.

Kanto: Misty. When I played Blue it wasn't too bad, I remember taking her out with a Wartortle and a Pidgeotto, but with FireRed, damn I had a hard time. I always pick Charmander and my team of Charmeleon, Pikachu, Butterfree, Pidgeotto, Geodude, and a low level Mankey was no the first few battles. Pikachu was too weak for Starmie, dammit! :(

Johto: Whitney. Need I go further than Miltank?

Hoenn: It was pretty easy for me, I don't really remember having problems when I played through Sapphire. I think I had the hardest time against Wattson.

Sinnoh: I only lost to Roark and Fantina, mainly because I thought Cranidos was part ground and didn't use my Luxio. Plus I had no water or grass types. I have no idea why I lost to Fantina first.

is it just me, or is there a trend? have the gym leaders been getting easier to beat with each generation?

It's possible, but it might also just be that the people who grew up on Red and Blue now just know more and are just older, so it's easier for us.

I started with Totodile and for some reason I still remember having trouble with that Steelix. Then again, my Feraligatr only knew one Water-type move, Surf.

Generation 1: I was on Yellow, so Brock took the longest to beat. I defeated him pretty handily though once my BFF traded me her Gengar. None of the others were particularly bad - maybe Sabrina or Giovanni. With Sabrina, it helps having a lot of your own psychic Pokemon, since in Gen1 the psychics were pretty much unbeatable except by other psychic-types.

Generation 2: Whitney's Miltank was definitely the WORST. But I also remember both Chuck and Janine making me wish I'd had the army of psychic-types on that game that I had on my Yellow (rather than just teaching my Togetic Psychic).

I haven't played the other two generations yet so I wouldn't know.

Gen I: I dunno why, but I found Sabrina's Alakazam quite tough.
Gen II: Whitney's frickin' Miltank, followed by Claire's frickin' Kingdra (mostly because Kingdra is weak against dragon-type moves and nothing else).
Gen III: Norman and his frickin' Slaking.

I don't think any of the Gen IV leaders gave me a particularly hard time.

I-Misty! I always chose charmander, so yeah.
II-Never played it.
III-Tate and Liza! They kept killin' Blaziken!
IV- Dp-Gardinia! Why did she have to be so mean to my prinplup?!?
Pt-Maylene! Traded over a sealeo who wouldn't listen! WHY HE HADE TO BE OVER THE LISTENING LEVEL I DON'T KNOW!

Watsons sonic booms, damn.

I: Koga. He always managed to knock me out right when I was about to win.
II: Morty. I had a hell of a time just GETTING to him.
III: JUAN ARRRGGGHHH. Tate and Lisa, I hated them, too.
IV: Crasher Wake. I owned everyone else pretty easily, but water gyms have always been my weak point.

Yellow: Brock. No electric, trained it A LOT. It learned Slam. Rock owns Normal
GS: Hmmm... never finished it, darn the non-saving cartridge.
Emerald/Ruby: I don't really know. Maybe Flannery, I guess...

Misty, Koga, Norman, Winona.
None in 2 and 3 gen.

First gen: I'll go with Misty only because I always find her Gym a steep level curve.
Second gen: Whitney I guess
Third gen: Okay in Ruby/Sapphire it's DEFINITELY Norman nrrrgh. They made him too easy in Emerald though... I forget who was hardest in Emerald.
Fourth gen: You know what this is pathetic but i can't remember any of the gym matches. At all. All I remember is having trouble with Fantina but then I evolved my Magikarp to Gyarados and Gyarados learned Bite and kicked serious ass.

Gen 1: Erica ( probably the only person in existence
Gen 2: Whitney-that damn Miltank
Gen 3: Winona stupid me trained a Manectric to lv35 and was killed in one earthquake by Altaria
Gen 4: Crasher Wake Gyarados used waterfall. But my Likiliky knew Thunder and out comes Quagsire

Winona got an Altaria in Emerald, and I don't have any good memories at all battling her. She knocked out my Vibrava the first time I went through, and the second time I had to keep alternating my Lairon and Manectric to deal with her. And since you can't get any Ice-types at all at that point in the game, there's pretty much no surefire way of beating her short of actually having a higher-level Flygon or Altaria yourself...

Wattson's friggin' impossible if you don't have a Ground-type in your party. I recall catching a random Geodude on my LG and trading it over, via Ruby or something, to beat him.

And any Leader whose signature Pokémon is Kingdra (read: Juan, Clair) is bound to be annoying...they only have one freaking weakness! It's a perfect wall setup! I came prepared and outwore it after several tries.

Speaking of, with all the new Dragon-type moves available since Gen III, especially ones that Kingdra can learn, I'll bet that Clair's Kingdra in HGSS is more annoying than Juan's ever was--since it'll get super effective against the only type that can take it out, another Dragon.
