I chose Diamond because I thought Palkia was ugly.

I thought everyone would choose Red, and I wanted to have different Pokémon to them. Someone stole my Blue cartridge on a school trip... oh well, at least I got Yellow later, definitely one of my top 3 games.
I don't think I chose. If I remember right, my 1st was crystal from my brother's friend. If not, it was silver or yellow, but either way, I didn't choose. now, I choose my favorite color: Soul Silver, (1st gen remakes, I've had both), sapphire, diamond (better than pink pearls :P ), and black
hehe, yeeaaahh...
A cousin of mine bought me a red version as a present XD Ah those were the good days when someone bought me a pokemon game.

My dad gave me Pokemon Red when I was five, and I am forever indebted to him.
My 8 year old self was waiting on an airport with her family, looking for something to do. I took my younger brother and my mom and went to the nearest duty free shop. To our joy we had discovered that the shop had a small selection of Game Boy games on the display. Having beaten Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins to death, we convinced our mother to buy us a new game. Two of which were, as you can guess, Pokemon Red and Blue. The images of cool-looking monsters quickly caught our attention, so we've started discussing which version should we pick. I wanted Red, because I was very fasctinated with dragons back then (thanks to Spyro), but then my brother said that "probably everyone picks that version". So we've ended up buying Blue.
Even up to this day, I have absolutely NO idea how the little bastard had predicted that.
I didn't have much choice in the version I first received as a kid. One day I got home from school and Red Version was lying on my bed along with a gameboy color.
There is truth beneath the floorboards;
There is hope in brick and stone.
But they tell me to shut my mouth;
Leave well enough alone.
But I think all that's needed is a match and gasoline.

I got Yellow because it was in my sisters (then) boyfriend's collection of old games that he gave me. That game was my life. I can't find it now. :(
I chose Blue version simply because I like the color Blue. Later games was where I became a bit more materialistic (boxart monster [Gen II + III], what overall content/monsters one version had that appealed to me [Gen V]) about choices.
