Not being able to transfer the pokémon I had spent years training put me out... of the game. I didn't play Pokémon again until late 2009, when news of the Gold and Silver remake found me.
That's 6 years without Pokémon.

Since I didn't officially have the GBC games with me at the time, what hit me hard wasn't that you couldn't actually trade or transfer, but the fact that nearly 200 old Pokemon were made (initially) unavailable without the AR I know I wouldn't buy that easy.
What I do remember of one kid who was really struck, though, was when this 8-year old kid I knew went all the way to the point where you battle Suicune thinking he could trade it over to his Sapphire. Massive lulz when he found out, indeed. :D
I was more interested in the new pokemon then worrying about the ones in johto.
I was gutted that my beloved Blue and Crystal teams were going to gather dust from now on, but other than that I enjoyed the change.

I never actually knew that the two Generations were incompatible until later. I think just by the time DP came out. lol. so basically, it didn't matter much to me.
!!! UPDATE: I'LL BE GONE FOR SOME TIME !!!

While I've been with Pokemon ever since it came out here and was an avid player of Crystal, I had to vote for the "I didn't care" option.
I can barely remember anything from those days, so...I didn't really mind that I wouldn't get to use my current team then for R/S. I mean, I was 9 years old when Ruby and Sapphire came out. I was just really excited about the improved graphics, a new region to explore and all of the new Pokemon. Didn't care one bit.
The shift never mattered to me. It was a new generation with a new region and new pokemons, so I was over-excited. That's all there was to it.
Never even occured to me that something "bad" happened like that when I first got Ruby, because as soon as I started playing, I didn't just play it like a true fan of the series, I WORSHIPPED IT.
Even with FireRed and LeafGreen and then Coloseum, I payed no major attention to those games since prior to those games being released it was nearly a year of worshipping Ruby as the greatest handheld game to ever come into existance.
Anime Characters Claimed: Mighty, Shirobon, Shout (Bomberman Jetters)

It didn't bother me. I was so hyped about RSE, I just kinda threw GSC to the side and forgot about it. Besides, my Pokemon are still on the cartridges so even if I can't trade them to the newer games it doesn't really matter.
I didn't care, my first pokemon game was sapphire.
When my best friend showed me a screenshot of Groundon's entry and said that it outweighed Snorlax, I was devastated. But the rest of the generation went fine with me.

It didn't. I wasn't in the fandom when Gen III came out. And when I did get back into Pokemon again, LeafGreen was the first game I got, but the graphics and everything didn't even affect me at all. I was just like "Oh, it looks different now. That's cool."

SO HARD I didn't have my old weird looking graphics and my Johto pokémon and my glitches it wasn't fair!
Well, for a while after the craze of GSC had died down, I kind of assumed that the Pokemon series was done and that there weren't going to be any new games, so when I saw an ad for Ruby and Sapphire it was a bit like a dream. I played the games after a long break from pokemon, so I didn't realize how different they were (I'd never transferred my Gen I team over or anything.)
To be honest, though, I can't really stand the graphics. I liked The older graphics, the fat, chunky people and the simple landscapes, as opposed to the skinnier, busier stuff in Gen III. I still have trouble playing through my RSE games.
But, all in all, I didn't had the mind to notice a difference. c:
With Sapphire being my third pokemon game in a short amount of time, it didn't bother me much. I just noticed it was really colorful, and that somehow made me happy.
Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon.
Can only evolve into one...
