Everyone knows about the infamous shift from Gen II to Gen III, which voided virtually everything in the first two Generations. How did this affect you?

I personally didn't care too much. I was little and I was still able to catch some of my favorites while still being able to catch newer pokemon too. I was pretty content. Plus, I could always trade with FR/LG (when they came out) if I absolutely needed to.

In fact, I vastly preferred it. A Region full of new Pokémon to get to know, unlike the fiasco that was 2nd Generation.
Is that so ~
I didn't care. It wasn't like I'd be losing my Crystal.
Gen 3 is amazing. Hah.
I just thought of it as a fresh new adventure with new Pokemon. It didn't bother me at all.
I'm excited for any pokemon game so the shift's impact was minimal, save for the graphics.

"Why can't I do the same transfer thing like in GS?"
*fruitlessly attempts to fit the GB link cable into the GBA link cable socket*
... :(
Didn't hit me at all. I was actually happy that the games were incompatible as they didn't leech on any other region like Johto leeched on Kanto.
Surprisingly I didn't care whatsoever. I never whined about it because I rarely traded my pokemon except for just dex entries. I was just happy the damn game looked so nice
Well it kinda put me off to be honest, there were suddenly so many more variables to consider, unless you were just playing the game for the story.
I actually pretty much sat out Gen III, I only got an Emerald cart after buying Diamond so I could trade a few older Pokés onto the new game.
I was more disappointed that it required a whole new system to play, TBH. I had a long break between Gen II and Gen III (2001 - 2005), before I got back into Pokemon again and invested in a GBA when I could get it slightly cheaper. I'm not sure I was even aware that I couldn't transfer from my older games, I just enjoyed the new experience and improved graphics.
Considering I didn't play any Gen II game until after gen III, the change didn't effect me at all. But if it was the opposite, I still wouldn't of been effected considering I actually like change.
I put in a lot of hours and trained a lot of Pokemon on GSC, so it did upset me that I couldn't transfer them to RSE.
But after a while, I just got over it.
I hope they never pull something like that again and allow us to forever transfer our Pokemon to new games.
I was completely unaffected and UNAWARE. I never attempted trading even though Crystal and Gold were at my disposal. I had a cable and two Gameboys Advance SP (my sister and mine). Probably because I never traded Pokémon before.
I was disappointed that my Gen II Pokémon were trapped in Johto, but other than that, I was fine.
