I did a solo run with my Sceptile in Sapphire. I had HM Slaves but they dont count. :)
To be honest, I don't ever recall myself playing a Pokemon game where I don't solo. I like it when I have a level 40 starter when my opponent has a level 29 monster or something.
I did solo'd,but only Pokemon League and it was with Typhlosion back in Crystal and I was close to doing it in Black with Galvantula.
I've never solo'd before, but am planning on doing so.
Gym-wise, I remember soloing a few of the Unova gyms unintentionally (I wanna say... Brycen and Drayden, but I'm not positive), and one gym in LeafGreen unintentionally (Sabrina; using a level 37 Ninetales). I did solo part of Sinnoh (I believe the last half) in Pearl with a Staraptor, and if I recall I had some Pokemon for HMs Staraptor couldn't use.
I uninentionally soloed with my Emploleon... My first level 100.
On my very first game on sapphire, (which was my 1st pokemon game) I solo'd with Blaziken. Then, I was 8, and didn't know it was a strategy, I just did it because I was stupid. Tate and Liza where hard as hell. On Platinum, I solo'd Byron, Candice, and Volkner with my Infernape. On White, I solo'd Brycen and Grimsley with Scrafty. And on my 2nd playthrough of White (I just didn't save) I solo'd Brycen with my Darmanitan, Iris with Krookodile, and Marshal with Swoobat.
I have never solo'd. I might try with hm slaves.
In HG I pretty much abandoned all my pokemon except Sandshrew as soon as I got to Union Cave. The ice type gym leader kind of sucked but other than that it was pretty easy.
I think basically any kid who's had a pokemon game has unintentionally soloed (strategy? What's that?)
Or maybe I was just a moron when I was 8. Yeah, I soloed Red with my Blastoise, and I remember it not obeying me more than once (due to it being above the current level threshold). I also remember having to use Struggle a bit in the Elite four.
But I did beat them (eventually), because I remember going to get Mewtwo (Master Ball!).
I probably soloed on Silver too, although I can't remember, Silver is pretty hazy for me, although I do remember choosing Totodile.
Still, I find it more fun having a whole team, although the idea of a Joey run (one Rattata) sounds intriguing.
The younger and less strategic Lugnut often found the concept of team building too much work, so as a result solo'd both Red, and Gold. Ahhh the gold old days.
I have historically done this very often, usually with the starting Pokémon, often due to me being too lazy to raise an entire team...
I have solo'd before...back when I was very young and only trained my starter Pokemon. So yeah, there was around a 50 level difference between my starter Pokemon and the rest of my team when I went to the Indigo Plateau in Pokemon Red.
I should try solo-ing one of these days...it will definitely be fun...
