Gen III is the second better generation IMO, after Gen V, obviously.

Third gen is my favourite.
It added so many cool pokemon. And of course the brilliant Hoenn region. As well as being the first gen with contests.
I loved the 3rd Gen! Hoenn really stands out compared to the other regions. Its unique and interesting, and the plot wasn't so bad, it was really enjoyable to me. So yep. Gen III is awesome
Gen III is pretty good. I really had fun playin' Ruby, and there's some cool Pokémons in Hoenn. Good stuff.
JAH!!!

Me too!
Anyway, Gen 3 brought so many new features:
Contests
Double Battles
^The first ever double battle gym!
Cycling Road (I think)
And soooooo many new ghost types and just all round great pokemon.
Examples of outstanding pokemon:
Flygon (obviously)
Absol
Crobat
Tropius
Gardevoir
Claydol
Salamence
Pretty much all the Dragon types.
Also, it introduced one of the best pokemon ever, beside Mewtwo, Rayquaza!
Seriously though, Sapphire was my first pokemon game and I dont think Ill ever get rid of it *hugs game pak*
I extend my hand to the marvelous authors of this forum. I have read your works and I know that your imagination knows no bounds. Can you help me create a region? I will dedicate the series of fics I intend to use this region for to the gracious people who choose to help me on this audacious task.
So Im asking you once again Bulbagarden - can you help me?

This is the thread i've been looking for.
Generation 3 killed my interest in Pokemon. Theres no other way to say it. I'm just now getting back into it. Hearing about remakes of Gen 2 dragged out all the old feelings I had for the games.
Looking back on it generation 3 wasn't awful, but it was a major disappointment. Generation 2 was a sequel to generation one in every way. Both regions were accesible and you got to go toe to toe with the most powerful trainer of all time. I expected the same from Gen. 3 and I was let down. I admit its my fault for getting my hopes up so high but what can you really do?
Having said that besides being disappointed there were some details of the games that I just found...vexing. 1)Version exclusive Legendaries. Gen. 3 was the first to do this and I hated it. It was an obvious ploy to make people by both games so GF could make more money. (To those of you who aren't aware, you CAN catch Ho-Oh and Lugia in both Gold and Silver. I know because i've done it) 2)The exclusion of all Gen. 1 and 2 pokemon. All the pokemon that i'd grown up with being excluded like that killed me (On the inside lol). 3)Less than spectacular legendaries. The Regi's anyone? I did catch all three but found them to be useless in battle. I liked the challenge involved with catching Latios and Latias, but again they weren't the best as far as battles go.
I know that i'm not the only one that feels this way as from what i've seen/heard Gen.3 was the cause for a lot of fans leaving the series, but as with every series new fans were brought in as well. It sold well and it has a good fan base.(from what i've see though its also the most hated Gen there is)
Despite all this there were some things that I enjoyed about the games. 1)Hoenn. I loved the climate of Hoenn. It was completely different than Kanto or Johto and I liked how it was tropical. I also enjoyed all the surfing. 2)Graphics. At the time, Gen.3 had some of the best graphics i'd ever seen. 3)The risk factor. GF took such a monumental risk with Gen.3 and I respect them for it. There was a good chance that it could've led to the end of the series, but they were willing to take the risk. 4) Diving. Brand new concept and I honestly hope that they bring it back.
Overall, while I don't love generation 3, I don't hate it either. Its a decent generation. I have yet to play Generation 4 or 5 so after I play those I'll decide on what the worst Gen is. I think its gonna be Gen 5, just going by the looks of the pokemon.
I like Gen I and II more, but the gen III games are great. I love how you can have Multi battles (super multi through Colosseum and XD), and I loved the metagame.
I currently only know four pokemon from Gen 5. Zoroark, Zoroa, and the two Legendary dragon mascots. The first two are ok and were pretty good in the movie two days ago, but the two dragons look awful. There faces, to me, resemble dogs.
Although I love Emerald, the dated graphics are really killing it for me. a 3D version of Hoenn is always what it needed to be, since the landscape suited it more than the old GBA graphics.
Everything else about Gen III I liked, most of my favorite Pokemon are Hoenn Pokemon, the anime made a return to form this generation with much better episodes and better main characters, and FR/LG were pretty good for 2004 era games.
