But look at all the evos and pre-evos. Can we classify those as "new" even though they are related to old Pokemon? I actually think 200 is a reasonable considering that there might be more evos and pre-evos of pre-existing Pokemon while keeping a safe number for totally new Pokemon.

...Unless the purpose of this generation is to complete all the evolutionary lines to end the series...?

    Unlikely, but possible.

Even then, not all Pokemon could evolve, or have evolved from a Pokemon.
There will always be non-evolutionary Pokemon. Or at least one. If you don't know which I'm talking about, begone. We all agree there might be more, though I draw the line at three beyond Elecable and Roseleido.
As I have said, this only means we get lots of new families. Which is cool.

As far as weak arguments go, that is the weakest. Just because you don't want the alternative doesn't mean that Game Freak hasn't created it.

Yes, it is. But it's more fun to think positive.
Bell02 Alpha isn't being any fun.
And, anyway, I've seen tons of people ranting about how a bunch of evolutions of old Pokemon would be bad for the series or something. At least on Serebii, it's not very popular.
    Think of it this way.
In order to evolve Pokemon that were previously unable to evolve, a new item is required. Do you honestly think they'll come up with a bunch of different items just to make a couple Pokemon evolve?
Of course, the flaw in that is that they could just make a couple new items, akin to the King's Rock and Metal Coat, that multiple Pokemon would use to evolve.
Bums. But I still wouldn't like it. Anyhoo, there won't be very many more evolutions of old Pokemon, because I say so.

Hey! Don't talk about me be behind my back I'm very fun look:
    :7up:

Basically, I want there to be a lot of new evolution lines also, so here's to that. However, what I'm really hoping for is more new monsters. 550 total is satisfactory for me in this game, but I think gamefreak might try to throw people off again. I also hope we can catch most of them too, just because I've always had more fun catching the pokemon in the percular game than trading it to myself... which is a little odd but whatever!

I always think GF could easily say that the climate of Shinou causes Pokemon to evolve.

While that works in the short-term, it would be a bad move in the long-term. Under that logic, Kanto, Johto and Hoenn can never be visited again. It would be very unwise for Game Freak to commit themselves to that.

So? If they do make further games, they will take place in regions based on other areas of Japan. There are more than four regions of Japan, eh?

And who says they can't use other countries as regions?

They can make as many new regions as they want. That has no effect on ever returning to the old ones.

There's room for about 2 more generations in Japan, if Gamefreak stretches them out a bit - the area between Kanto and Shino, and the area between Johto and Hoenn.

Well, they're Japanese, and the game has its largest fanbase in Japan.
    So that's why.

They've already done Orre. Or maybe they will create an entirely original region once they run out of areas in Japan.

That wasn't done by GameFreak, though. I think we'll see "side regions" in spinoff games like Ranger and XD, but I think the main series will keep themselves in Japan. Perhaps with the sixth gen being the last big "expansion".
