Default Orre - Main Series? Or Side Game?

Okay, this has been bugging me for a while.

For some reason, Orre is listed under the Main Series category in the Region box that appears in all articles concerning region or the Pokemon World or whatever.

I say Orre should be under the Side Game category because Orre
    - does not have a regular storyline like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova.
    - lacks routes in between towns and cities.
    - lacks a Pokemon League. No gym leaders, etc.
    - Pokemon are not caught in the same way as in the other Main series region

This list can go on and on.

I'm puzzled why Orre is listed under the Main series. Do you guys agree with me and believe Orre should be changed to Side games?

    If not, why?

Or, none of them. Why, to what else?

Orre has two games that are located in it with related storylines.

Orre is listed as a main series game because it is the same type of RPG as the main series. The side games all have completely different mechanics. The orre games do not.

Furthermore, the Orre games are capable of directly trading with the handheld games. The other games that interact with the main series handhelds in any way do not do this.

YouTube projects advertised are in early development and subject to change.

I agree with Gummy Spider. Just because they have had two games shouldn't really count. All the main series hand held games are well known and some feature over numerous and are the flagship games of that generation. They deserve the title, while most people haven't even heard of Colesseum. I hadn;t even heard of it until I found Bulbapedia, and I don't know anyone that has played it

So, only for that one reason. Orre is a main series region?... That's not logical thinking. It has many traits that do not share with the actual main series regions.

The trade is special. You are required to have some sort of special trading wire (correct me if I'm wrong) to connect the GameBoy and GameCube.

    Exactly.

Also, Orre has never been mentioned ONCE in the main series games and vice versa.

So you're saying it's a side game because it uses different hardware? I hardly think it matters, since the hardware is compatible regardless.

Through the link battle feature (another main series staple), Brendan, May, Red and Leaf can all appear in Orre.

Which brings me to my next point. The Stadium games and Battle Revolution, despite acting solely as a peripheral for 3-D battling (plus minigames in the Stadium series), are still considered main series titles because of the way they interact with the handhelds. Stripped of the RPG mode, Colosseum/XD serve exactly the same purpose.

Furthermore, the Stadium series also required special hardware in the form of the N64 Transfer Pak, yet this does not affect its status.

YouTube projects advertised are in early development and subject to change.

    Main series = Handheld RPGs

Orre, obviously, is not a handheld RPG. I dislike the idea that we would count something as a main series game simply because it can interact directly with the handhelds. There are a variety of criteria that the handhelds meet that Orre does not, both gameplay-related and storyline-related.

Orre meets many of these 'criteria' better than the Stadium games. In addition, even if you dislike it, the fact that I can trade my Pokémon from Orre to the handheld games is THE most important criteria that a game must fulfill in order to be considered part of the Main series.

And don't forget that you can trade stuff back to Orre. That's a fairly significant detail, too.

I voted wrong because you phrased your poll question really awkwardly.

As someone who played both games and created the Orre pages, I have to say that I personally still consider the games side games - for the simple reason that A) they were developed by a team outside of GameFreak and B) nothing about the events of either game are ever mentioned in any of GameFreak's games. Of course, I also consider both Stadium games Side Games as well.

Well before the DS, you needed "some sort of special trading wire" *cough link cable cough* to trade between ANY games.

I think it should be it's own class because it has elements from both catigories but not enough to be in one or the other, and i don't think it can be both can it?

Before GenIV the Orre games were the only way how to get many of the missing Johto Pokémon. It was Gamefreak that decided which Pokémon will be catchable in Hoenn and which will be in Orre and the only reason why the Orre games were made by Genius Sonority was that Gamefreak had no experience with making fully 3D console games.

Why should it matter? If GenVI will take place in a more faraway region than Unova with no-one referencing the previous games, will you not consider them Main series?

Honestly, I don't consider any of the console games to be true mainseries games. The reason? They're not developed by Game Freak. Simple as that. Shouldn't all mainseries games be developed by the original company that developed the first games in the series?
