Notice my signature? Han Ji-Wan is my older name. Gummy Spider is my newer name. Is there a way to change my username on Bulbawiki? I haven't checked because it doesn't really matter, but if it's that much of a problem, then I will change it to Gummy Spider if at all possible.

Anyway, as for the topic at hand, as long as it's mentioned for the hometowns in the game that the player and any rivals are or are not part of the count, it doesn't really matter. As long as it's consistent, and as long as, say, Barry isn't counted in Survival Area accidentally since he's there for the rest of the game (at least in Pt).
Of course, I'm not going to count Barry in Survival Area. Would've counted him in Twinleaf Town, but SnorlaxMaster doesn't agree with that.

Also, I have a question. Bianca (Bel's english name for those who don't know) actually lives in Kanoko Town after the game.... What do I do? Kanoko Town's population is 10 without her. It's 11 with her. What should I do?

And btw. Here's a surprise... Raimon City surpasses Castelia City's population... :O

Yeah, she should be included then.

    Okey dokey, then! :D

Cynthia is not included in Sazanami Town because she only rents a house there, doesn't live there. Besides, she lives in Sinnoh.

You do know I said right there. Your name can be changed on the wikis, but the load balancer screwed up CentralAuth again so we'd have to fix that first.

And canonically Cynthia doesn't live in Sinnoh by her own admission; she's just the champion of its Elite Four.

Japanese censors are only for porn, putting pixely boxes over everything. As for the Japanese census... which is a completely different thing... no idea.

Somehow, I didn't see that. Whatever. I'll change it to "Gummy Spider" once the CentralAuth is fixed...

However, Cynthia's family lives in Celestic Town. But yeah, that doesn't mean she lives in Sinnoh. But it's just likely she's a resident of Sinnoh.

    Heh. :D

Really, I don't care about the Japanese census, I only need one. :/

The point with the Japanese Census is the games were made in Japan. So if we were to try and apply real-world census techniques to the games, we should be using the Japanese ones.
Thanks Jo The Marten for the avatar.

Does it really matter which census I used? All/most censuses count people in the cities. That's all I did. We don't need to get more complicated than that.

Post Re: Demographics - Official Count

I would have to say I count them as the home where they lived before starting their journey, e.g., Red from Pallet Town, Kanto.

I don't know, that's just what makes sense to me, unless they buy a house somewhere else, and consider that their permanent residence.

Well, consider the male player in Platinum, with the villa. Would that count as residence?

I could have sworn seeing Han-Ji-Wan on a lot of threads. I don't know. Anyway, the player and his rival should most definitely be counted in a town's population. Look at it like this:
There is a man on a buisiness trip. He and his family normally reside in Phoenix, Arizona. His company decided to cut costs, so he was outsourced to Singapore. The company frequently sends him around Asia to meet with clients. Between these times, the man is free to do what he likes as always as he is on call. It is April 2010, and the US Census is under way. On the census form, the man's wife lists him as the number 1 person (or 2,3,4,5,etc) in the house. He is therefore counted as a citizen of the US. Furthermore, the census form has a question under every individual's personal area if that person resided in the house on April 30.

Back to the demographics issue. If the editors on the demographics section of articles are questioning whether or not to count to player character and his/her rival(s), simply include them in the list and mention the dispute in parantheses or asteric the sentence. Problem solved.

As for the situation with NPCs like Cynthia, who are known to originate in the town but do not have an obvious residence there, they shouldn't be counted in a town's demographics.

This should already be happening. On the town articles, it should say "Town has a population of X (excluding the player and the rival)", or something similar (New Bark Town would just exclude the player, not the rival, since the rival didn't previously live there like the player).

The issue was whether or not they should be included in the number. It was always going to say "including" or "excluding" beside the number.
