It has a 600 BST, cannot breed, and isn't part of an evolution line. That's pretty much the exact definition of a legendary otherwise all the other 600 BST aren't Legendary either.
It also used to encompass gender, up until Gen III where people just assumed Legendaries could only have one gender, which once again, was broken. The "can't breed" part had to be adapted to "Can't breed to make more of itself" since Manaphy came along.

Then there's Phione who can breed to make more of itself and is pretty weak, yet is a legendary by proxy.

If I recall, "Legendary" used to just be a fan term, we really shouldn't pretend its definition is set in stone when we gave it that definition in the first place. Perhaps I'm thinking of Pseudo-legendary, but its not like Game Freak haven't gone and retconed themselves in other places.

Too bad the Ranger Sign wasn't explained that well. I'd still like to know the mechanics of it.

Also, the animation seemed bad to me compared to other episodes. Why can't they get the good animators for these types of specials >:

With any rules, there are exceptions. But I sorta agree that it would be so much easier if there were subcatergories to legendaries. Too be honest, Heatran doesn't exactly inspire the same "awe" that legendaries featured on game boxes seem to inspire, which in a strange way, makes it more appealing to me.

But anyway, is that really the ranger sign for Feraligatr? I'm not even that far into the game D:

I think that is largely due to the gender status moves like attract. It likely does affect them and so that's why they have genders for moves that affect them. Something like Mew and attract always fails because Mew doesn't have a gender, but I guess it works with some legendaries because those type of moves affect them. And really I can't see why Legendaries can't have genders. I'm not even sure I want to know how Pokemon scientist classifies one as male or female, maybe due to attract and moves like it but even still, kind of creepy to think about (especially since they can't breed normally).

Phione is likely an exception well considering it's pretty much sandwiched between legendaries, otherwise it probably would be a normal Pokemon with some weird connection to Manaphy almost like Mewtwo in a sense, although weaker, so Phione is like an imperfect version of Manaphy. Still kind of cool though when you think about it. Shame there aren't more imperfect "legendaries" out there like Phione. It would be nice to see something like a weaker version of Darkrai for example and it only slightly resembles it or other 600 BST legendaries.

Yes, assuming NoA didn't go and change all the Ranger Signs on us for no reason. I tested it out in the Japanese version of the game when this episode first aired in Japan, and it worked.

Also, I giggled a little bit every time they said "he-tran."

One thing that confused me was how Ben happened to make the Ranger sign perfect; lines straight and all. But how? Does he just have to say "Feraligatr" in order for the Ranger sign to be drawn?

I thought that this episode was OK. Wasn't the best, but definitely not the worst. I did enjoy the episode for what it was worth. I thought that Ben was an interesting character, though I wasn't a fan of how Ukulele Pichu was missing, since I would figure that this took place after those two 4 minute specials that were made when the game first came out in Japan.

Not that good of an ep, but not bad either. Some parts were really really boring, and others kinda fun.

You gotta figure that in most mythos, there's gods, demigods, spirits, embodiments, and so on. I'd put Heatran somewhere between demigod and embodiment, as it seems to be the deity of Stark Mountain. Maybe it's like ancient...nngh, I want to say Babylonian society that had a god for each house. Granted they were minor gods, but they were still gods.

I'm guessing he just targets a point on the ground and the sign draws itself.

So I guess that a Ranger Sign is the Ranger version of a Monster Ball? He also seems to have perfect aim, but DracoMan also has a point.

This is also an episode that shows Team Rocket leaving the episode without blasting off for a change. In this one, they simply run away.

It doesn't make any less sense than the whole Monster Ball thing.

And it obviously got back via the same "inter-dimensional portal" through which it came.

I LOL'd when the Ranger thought Team Rocket were hero's awe man was that funny. Why is the Ranger so clueless about Team Rocket? Maybe I'm a newbie when it comes to Rangers, but shouldn't they know all about evil teams out there? Awe well, for me it was an ok episode. Heck even when this one aired in Japan it wasn't one of my favorites but whatever, it had its moments.
