    BW37 - A Fishing Connoisseur in a Fishy Competition!

Continuing to Nimbasa City in the hopes of getting his next gym badge, Ash as well as his friends encounter Bianca who is in a hurry. Bianca pulls out a flier for a local fishing tournament and explains that she came a long way in order to try fishing for the first time. JJM "Unova is ours! And we did it all for the boss!"

Thank god! I was worried they were going to alliterate again....

Nice to see James putting emphasis on "thrusting" in the motto again.

Oh thank goodness! They changed the dialogue so that Ash isn't surprised to see Yamask.

    Generally good episode.

I was hoping the whole time though that TR could be at least a little successful--they could've gotten away with one or two pokemon that they kept in their pockets or something. (As essentially these were all wild pokemon legitimately caught.) Maybe this could be an anime head-canon type of thing.

Frillish releasing other pokemon--I didn't like that bit.

I liked Bianca here. Cilan too, and Iris.

    Oh! And I LOVED Goku-Pansage!
Feel free(r) to discuss Battle Strategy with me--I'll discuss anything really.

Besides being a strange (retired) battler with a storied, legendary, mythical, exaggerated, and relatively unknown career, I am also an amateur English B&W anime reviewer. (pachiba, you like?)

    And I take hoedowns seriously.

Yet again, I can only comment on Cilan's antics, as well as Bianca. This is otherwise just a formulaic episode. Would it have made more impact if this was the introduction of Cilan's rod as it was intended? Not by much. :P

Cilan talks about his 'hammer of justice.' ...That sounds so sexual, the writers must have done it on purpose. But it's good to know Cilan didn't sexually harass the Rockets as a way of dealing with them. Too bad the same can't be said for who knows how many others.

How Iris fishes: She takes off her pants and grabs the big thing with her hands.

So according to Pokemon.com, this episode takes place...at a lake?

But don't you see? That just shows how competent they are!! They aren't willing to settle for one or two pokemon; they go for all or nothing!!

Hat. Brown hair. Blue jacket with bag on. Pants are the same, only brown instead of black/grey. How can that not be Hilbert?

Lots of people wear similar clothes and we don't even know if it's a boy or a girl. So, no, I doubt it's Hilbert at all. Plus, the hair could be different, the pants are different, those are brown in the episode.

I'm at least glad the English dub managed to make sure continuity wasn't in question. I feel bad that Cilan didn't get to keep his Basculin (stupid touchy-feely Frillish). One thing though: when Bianca was wondering what Yamask was, why didn't she use her own Pokedex? She did when they encountered Frillish. Ah well, it's nothing major. All in all, not a bad episode.

Personally, I think it would have made more sense if the animators had redrawn the Pokedex scene to have Bianca be the one to scan Yamask instead of Ash.

So you think that it's a complete coincidence that the animators just happened to draw someone with the same clothes, body, height and hair(the hair can be properly seen in the episode, not the picture) without Hilbert's design crossing their minds? I doubt that they scribbled the guy randomly without any thought of Hilbert's design clothes. I mean come on, THE BACK IS EXACTLY THE SAME(except for the brown colour of the pants instead of the normal black).

I remember people dreading the possibility of the return of the Misty lure in this episode. Thank goodness for BW's lack of past references!

The Cilan lure was awesome. Now that is a fishermen.
