That's funny, because I hate that Frillish for exactly the same reason. Basculin is badass, and Cilan didn't get to keep it. They better give him something else that's just as epic to make up for it. Like... Klinklang.
With... A mustache.

This episode = Plothole Terror.
Also, I was a little scared when I saw the major events on Bulbapedia and saw that Cilan caught a Basculin. Thank god he released it, because I don't know how they would be able to keep it a secret for 13 episodes.
Technically Cilan did not release his Basculin. As per the "competition" rules, all of the contestants who caught a water pokemon were to give it over to the referees for judging. As the judges, TRio used this as an excuse to steal these pokemon from the trainers. TRio failed to get away in time, and soon battled Ash and co. In the midst of this intense battling, the female Frillish from before snatched the bag of fishing balls into the water and released all of the water-type pokemon that were caught. Frillish did this to save her friends from being taken away, which was the reason why she mercilessly attacked Ash and co. before. Frillish, Cilan's former Basculin, and the other water pokemon disappeared in to the water, never to be seen again.
Also Bianca left at the end of the episode, so there was some new animation added in to fit everything in. Now TV TOKYO could get away with that little plothole inconvenience as well.
Did someone say screenshots?
So the group leave the Pokémon Centre in Not!Castelia to proceed on their journey. Pikachu has awesome happy expressions. Then again, when you can easily be :3 at any time, it just comes naturally.
Bianca runs in, along with some deja vu. Shoulda known they were passing water for a reason...
I love how at first all we see is Ash's hat. Also the look on his face when he surfaces. It's all 'aw, man, not again!'
Partially submerged Frillish is watching you~
Well, Ash, looks like you'll have to take your clothes off because of Bianca. Again. ...That sounds a bit wrong. Heehee, Pikachu holding Ash's hat. Hm...so Ash wears a white tee under his overshirt. What can I say? I've been dying to know.
Now then, Bianca pulls out a flyer for the fishing rally. Mere seconds later, it's in Cilan's hands. Now, now, Cilan. A true gentleman doesn't take things out of a lady's hands. Yes, I have been playing a lot of Professor Layton lately. What gave it away?
I'm sure that Cilan is meant to look all cool right before that little fishing-from-a-tugboat scene, but in the pics I have, he looks quite constipated.
Let's get to that fishing rally, shall we? Hmm, Poké Balls with little fish stickers on them. Interesting that they used a fish design that looks more like our world's fish than any fish-like Pokémon. I wonder...
Signups are done. Cilan's kinda got a trollface goin' on there, doesn't he?
A solid-gold looking fishing rod. I shouldn't be surprised. Really, I shouldn't.
Time to pick your rods, guys. Bianca has her eye on one but Cilan pooh-poohs her choice, picking out one for her instead.
So, which one will Cilan use? ...Of course! He wouldn't settle for a fishing rod used by mere mortals, no no. He'd use nothing less than his own special super-shiny one, of course!
The look on Iris' face...bahaha. She tends to make those faces at a lot of the things Cilan does, doesn't she?
It's fishing time! Someone clearly forgot to tell Bianca that fishing doesn't involve swinging your rod around at random. Iris has one heck of a time running past it. That also sounds wrong, but I digress.
See, Bianca? This is why you don't wave your rod around blindly. And just when Ash gets a bite, too! My word, it's hard to not make innuendos every line. Although if Ash actually made use of his hoodie, things might've been different.
Cilan to the rescue! Aww, Bianca looks so sad... But don't worry, Cilan'll show you how to handle your rod! A zen-like pose followed by totally going for it is the way to go.
And it worked! Cilan pulls up a blue Basculin! It is maaaad.
Pansage, you've got some work to do. Before our Grass Monkey friend can make a move, it's knocked into the drink from Basculin's Water Gun and gets hit with Bite and some other Water move. You sure about this, Cilan? Okay, I guess he is. Pansage leaps out of the water and unleashes Bullet Seed.
Pansage swimming away from Basculin makes me think of Jaws for some reason. I can't quite tell what happens next from these pics, but I assume Pansage reaches one of the platforms, turns around and strikes Basculin.
Can someone makes sure Cilan doesn't make those weird hand gestures again? They sorta scare me. Nonetheless, Solar Beam! Nighty-night, Basculin! Time for Cilan to make use of that Poké Ball from earlier.
It almost looks like Cilan kissed the Poké Ball. 0_o Pansage's face, though? Win.
Now then, you three. Ready to put your teacher's lessons into practice? =P
Iris waits...and waits...and waits some more before she gets all 'fuck dis shit!' and decides to take a more hands-on approach. Are you thinking what she's thinking, Axew?
Huh, without the leggings Iris really needs to proceed carefully. Still wondering if that's a skirt or part of her top. Either way, is the bow part of it normally or did she just tie it like that?
Success is short-lived: James calls her out on this and holds up a yellow card. This distraction causes the Basculin to escape. Bugger.
I daresay it's time for Ash and Bianca to try their luck. Bianca's got a biggun, it seems. I'll just let the fact that one of Ash's hands looks to be in an unfortunate place slide...
Good timing on Cilan's part, eh? Let's see what we've got--oh. Oh. It's that pink Frillish again! She takes one look at Ash and...well, let's just say it's not just girls who should beware of things with tentacles. I take it Pikachu hit the deck before impact. Ouch. But not nearly as painful as what Ash is going through now.
Frillish sure is big, eh? Iris and Cilan try to intervene but they soon find that this Frillish isn't picky about gender or age. I'm sure there's some people out there who wouldn't mind a weird...four-way (for the lack of a better term), with two of their best friends and a glomping jellyfish. She kinda reminds me of Ash's Muk in terms of inappropriate affection.
Running the risk of being suffocated by this Frillish who really believes in sharing the love (but seemingly not in buying her victims dinner and drinks first), Ash requests Pikachu use Thunderbolt. It hurts, sure, but at least they can breathe again.
Team Rocket have gotten their fill of water-dwelling Pokémon it seems: they take the bags of Poké Balls and proceed to a motor boat. However, that darned Frillish has beaten them there and she pushes the boat away. What makes it even better is that she doesn't even notice the Rockets! I bet it's all just a game to her.
By this time, all the Trainers present have noticed what's in those bags and the Rockets have no choice but to reveal themselves. Judging by the look on Ash's face, he has to explain to Bianca who these weirdos are.
Why the 'dexing of Yamask? Strange.
Cilan won't stand for this injustice! Thus he sends out Pansage. Ash also asks Pikachu to join in.
Interesting, so a Yamask can use its mask to block attacks, like Pansage's Bullet Seed. Doesn't work so well against Pikachu's Thunderbolt, though. Heheh, Woobat's expression.
Pikachu knocks Yamask's mask away with Iron Tail and Pansage strikes Woobat with Bite. Meowth has an idea which falls flat when he realises the Poké Balls are gone, the Pokémon set free by something pink...
Ash's face when Frillish pops her head up is really funny.
Dang, Yamask uses Haze and the Rockets jetpack away. Yawn. What I would've given for Frillish to have her way with them... Er, not like that.
D'aww, Pansage on Cilan's shoulder. Speaking of which, Cilan appears to be rifling through the remains of the fishing stand. He finds the golden fishing rod...in pieces. He looks so sad...
Bianca runs off and the group continue onwards.
...I'm really gonna miss that Frillish.
I kind of like that Frillish. It's too bad it wasn't a capture, because I feel she will make a great team member for anyone. Ah well...
That's it for now.
Iris jumping the water to try to get the pokemon the more unorthodox way was pretty funny. Team rocket reminded me of Sinnoh team rocket which was very nice to see after the very boring b/w team rocket (to me anyways).
Oh, I misunderstood what he said then, though I still think everything is possible until it airs...
But... do they really care? If they'd want to, they'd do to these eps what they did to this one... I don't expect any logic from them after what they just did - they really didn't need to waste time and money to edit this ep, all they had to do is air it as it was and put a little note at the beginning that this is an episode that should've aired earlier... seriously, it could be so much simple and better than what they chose to doQuote:
Unlike this episode, they can't really hide the fact that that episode was meant to air earlier. They had been leading up to it, and advertising it, for ages, and everyone know when it was supposed to have aired and that it got skipped over.
Not that it has anything to do with this episode, but Seger never gave them a new plan last episode.
It's a bit hard, since they have a dozen episodes that specifically led up to the events that took place after that episode, and another decent chunk of episodes that specifically take place after these events. They were able to brush over the existence of BW26 and redo it as an episode that takes place later because it was mostly a standalone episode.
And to remind the viewers of Japan that this episode included scenes and footage that would have been too sensitive to air back in March in the midst of the earthquake and tsunami incident?
"Much simple and better than what they chose to do" might have brought up a lawsuit or complaints from the viewers that they were subjected to further horrible stress as a result of the programming. Changing an entire episode's ending to not link this up with the two Emolga episodes, and quite possibly some other minor details, was completely understandable. Some viewers in Japan might have been able to place all of the pieces together, but the majority of them will be too ignorant to care either way.
There was no need for TV TOKYO just blatantly say: "This was an episode that should have aired earlier but due to an unforeseeable natural disaster we felt that it was too soon to air it back then. We edited some parts of the episode that might make some viewers feel uncomfortable, but here it is."
Those petty edits did not compare to changing an entire episode's footage around just because some character in a DP episode resembled a character from a very old Japanese cartoon and avoid a lawsuit with that company as well. Believe it or not, this franchise has more than enough money to work around these minor inconveniences.
I saw the episode and I loved it!
Good Points
- Dento. He was just awesome. He was hilarious but I liked that there was subtlety in the acting of fhis character, he was at the same time excited, a bit arrogant, overconfident, ready to help his friends when they needed tips. He was really great in here and I love the fishing mania.
- Bel. I finally figured out why I like her so much. She's kinda like Satoshi's Waninoko in human form. There's just an inherent joie de vivre and lightness to her character that's very comforting.
- Dento.
- Yanappu. Finally, a good battle for Yanappu, it had been a while. I really liked the battle against Basurao since it was well written, it felt organic since there were a lot of unusual movements (like Yanappu swimming and doing backflips) and they used the environnement so it was a nice change of pace from the disappointing battles BW had to offer so far, particularily BW025 and BW036.
- Did I mention Dento? Did I?
- Team Rocket having a semblance of personality. They weren't quite where they were before in terms of entertainment, but they weren't jokes either.
- Interactions. I LOOOOOOOOOOVED the interactions between Bel, Dento and Satoshi. Whenever those three are together, they really feel like a trio, like three friends, which is a nice change. There's real chemistry between those three characters and they bounce really well off of one another.
- Dento saying, "MY VINTAGE!" Awesome as always.
Bad points
- Iris being a Debbie Downer the whole way through. Seeing her bitch every time the gang, particularily Dento, does something that's outside of her comfort zone is only a tiny bit less grating than nobody calling her out on it. She was boring in this episode, had no chemistry with the other three and her scenes really felt out of place
- Kibago needs to evolve or something because it's just annoying right now.
- The Rockets v Satoshi/Dento battle felt very static and game-like. Some of the time wasted on Iris should've gone to make that battle more engaging.
Overall, a really really good episode, mostly because it relied on Dento, Bel and Satoshi who are at their best when they're together, because of their great interactions. I wasn't bothered by the edits. This didn't feel super out of place. Even though it was clearly a big city that the map all pretty much shows to be Huin City. There was just a lightheartedness about those three in this episode that I really liked.
BEAUTIFUL EPISODE! Man, I mean...gaaaaah, if only this aired in order and didn't have so many plotholes...but GGGAAAAAHH!!!
I loved it so much. Dento got to have his slasher smile pretty much the entire episode. He's totally into this!
If Bel knocks Ash into water again in the future, causing him to strip down to his underwear in front of her...again, I'm going to just assume that she does this on purpose. And...I didn't know that you were allowed to make mini campfires in the middle of the sidewalk like that XD
Oh god. The Pururiru. Oh god. Fanart fuel right there.Better turn on the r18 filter on pixivWhat is this? Like the 4th pokemon who's fallen head over heals over Ash? What a player. You go, Ashy boy. Tentacle rape scene was soooo squicky XD Dammit, if Ash didn't have two water types on his team already, I'd totally want him to have that frillish. I mean, it mirrors Shooti's :P
Haha, figures the action-packed jungle girl wouldn't like such a slow paced past time :P She's just jelly of Dento's skills (though, her attempts were quite valiant ^^)
If I listed all the moments I thought Dento was amazing in this episode, I might as well just do a full episode summary, lol. But I won't. It's CONDENSING TIME!!
The way his voice sounded in the end...when the prize fishing pole was broken...it melted my heart ;_;and of course that bastard would rummage through the rubble to steal it XD
Debbie Downer? Lol. You said the same thing for her in the last episode and all she did was say that the fossil Araragi held in her hands looked like an ordinary rock. Also, you should be used to the fact Iris finds Dento a pain whenever he does something. That's what makes Iris amusing. You seem to be making a lot of excuses for someone who doesn't care. :D
How can Kibago be annoying even when he isn't doing anything?
Cilan was great in this episode. I can see why some people fawn over him, lol. I definitely like him a lot more now.
I was also anticipating someone catching Frillish (Bianca, to be specific), and was really surprised when it didn't happen. I think Frillish would've made an interesting Pokemon for Bianca, but oh well. Overall, I really enjoyed this episode, and didn't even notice any plotholes, really. The next episode looks entertaining as well.
Ah yes I adored this episode mainly becuase of all the amazing Dento moments in here. I can't wait to use some of these clips for my videos. Bel entrance always remind me of Barry's, running into Ash or at least knocking him over but he seems to be knocked into the water every time Bel comes in.
Ok Ash why you have no clothes on in the middle of the side walk? Seriously there is a Pokemon center near by. Already Dento was going nuts once he spotted the flayer. Now it's time for Fishing time! Dento being more fabulous as he explains of him loving to fish in this episode. Iris seemed so annoyed once she noticed this. The funny part about this was Dento looked so evil in this. He always giving that deadly stare when it comes to fishing, gives me the chills. Dento showing how to fish seemed to got Iris a bit jealous. The battle with Yannapu was really awesome. It's great that we were able to see more action time for Yannapu.
I also loved how Iris got so tired of fishing that she decided to go in and grab the fish herself but instead got in trouble. That made me laugh. Everything else was alright. The battle with Team Rocket was not that bad although when I noticed Ash took out his Pokedex to check out James new Pokemon, I was going to say "You already know that Pokemon already" but then I remembered that this was a skipped episode. I also loved Dento sad moment when he tried to find the fishing rod once the battle ended. So cute.
Those are really cute screen shots. I love Dento face when he was blushing a bit. So adorable. Dento not amused face made me laugh.
