BW 005 "Sanyou Gym! VS Baoppu, Hiyappu and Yanappu!!" Review Thread

Anyone who thinks Ash is a stupid "newb" or whatever needs to watch this episode. He's knows what he's doing, he knows how to battle and use strategy. That Pokabu battle was pretty cool, I can't wait to see what kind of moves it learns.

Pikachu's power being reset, whatever. It took the backseat in DP and I don't mind it happening here.

What ever it is they have planned for Iris, they're at least dropping some hints for it. She had this look about her, like she was studying how Ash battles and his Pokemon choices.

This one was funny, Ash's reaction to the cheerleaders was a hoot. I loved his reaction to Iris stalking him tooXD Is it me or does it seem like Iris has a bit of a crush on Ash? Its just the way she's acting towards him in this episode. The rest raunt scene was pretty funny too LOL, poor Ash and I'm impressed with his gym battling style so far. So over all I'm really loving Best Wishes, I'm glad it will be a part two and I'm pretty sure Ash will win that badge or he'd be staying in that area a bit longer to win it.

I must admit, it was good to see Ash over-react to the trio wanting to serve him food. Him wanting to challenge all three gym leaders was in his character as well.

a new generation and none of Ash's Pokemon has shown a Gen V move yet

all we know is that Mijumaru knows Shell Blade and he hasn't officially used it yet..

and the same to you gym leaders! what I thought was boiling water was only Water gun (which makes Pikachu look even more pathetic)

so so far the only new move we've seen are Grass Mixer and Shell blade

Thinking about it, challenging all three when he only needs to beat one is is kind of funny--in game, I imagine most players would do so as well given the chance, for the experience points.

Mud Shot--last time I remember it was Groudon VS Kyogre, but surely it's been used since then?
Geez, I hate that move so much early on. No wonder he lost. Super Effective + Accuracy loss= Super fun happy time.

I loved this episode. Iris' facial expressions throughout the match were hilarious to watch. Mijumaru gained a lot of lols from me, how it talks big, then is put in its place.

Iris and Mijumaru are making Best Wishes awesome!!! They really made this episode.

Just watched the episode and I loved it!

The three gym leaders were hilarious and I love that they all have different personalities and battling styles. Then fangirls and Ash blowing up were hilarious.

First up, the battle against Pod's Baoppu was great and Ash exploited the fact that Pod was all offense bye having Pokabu use Dig against it and then getting in close for the finish.

I liked that Corn was the total opposite in that he was more about defense and making the opponent's attacks less effective. For those complaining that Pikachu shouldn't have lost, stop looking at the result and look at the battle. Corn had an answer for each attack that Pikachu launched, be it evading it with double team or halting it with mud sport. No matter how strong you are, if you can't land a hit and the opponent keeps sending scratches and water guns your way... you're gonna fall sooner or later. I hope we see both of them again in the future. Oh look Baoppu and Hiyappu have evolutions that have to be introduced...

Then Dent... I really liked Dent's appearance at first, he picked up Pikachu (who didn't shock him...) The battle against Yannappu was funny since Mijumaru was too scared to fight at first. Then it was funny expressions after funny expressions from Mijumaru. Loved it. We pretty much know how the battle will end but still.

Rockets didn't take up too much screentime and left a distinct aura of cool, so they pretty much did everything I wanted them to do in a gym battle episode. :)

Two minor things that bothered me. Iris and Kibago are fading into the background fast. Take them out of this episode and the episode stays the same and is still as enjoyable. I don't feel she's bringing anything to the table at this point. Also, Yannappu looked hella cool and packs Bite, Bullet Seed and Solarbeam, but I hope it also packs a personality which so far... haven't really seen...

Really? I thought this episode was a step up. The way she looked with that "let's see how strong this guy really is" and acted during the battle at least showed clues as to why she's really traveling with Ash.

We still don't know why she's travelling with Ash though. We know nothing about her. Besides liking cute pokemon and thinking Ash is a noob... not really seeing anything that really makes her stand out. In this episode, she was basically talking to herself saying self evident stuff like, "Ash is using Mijumaru instead of Mamepato who would have a type advantage?" There's potential in Iris, but right now, she's sorta fading into the background for me. Kibago having as much personality as a twig.

Hopefully, next week will highlight both of their personality and sort of give an insight as to why they're travelling, let alone travelling with Ash.

Wow, the reset has never been this harsh to Pika before. At least not that I remember. That was a good strategy to use against him, though. Piggy gets a win and otter gets humiliated by broccoli monkey. I'm sure we'll see it kick butt next week, though.

I can't watch Dent without thinking of Ling Yao from FMA:B or Kida from Durarara.

That actually sounds very plausible. I'd agree with that thought.

What is hard to believe, however, is that Ash willingly chose to face all three when when he only needed to beat one like we do. I get it already: all of this is a way to advertise the games.

I don't think so... Brock was a gym leader and he hadn't a clue that Misty was the gym leader... Nor did either one seem to have much information on other gym leaders...

May's dad was a gym leader and she didn't have much information on other gym leaders...

So she could still be a gym leader...

However, if she knows nothing about the elite four or champion then I'd doubt she's a gym leader as it seems all gym leaders know about them...
