    Sad to see Conway go.
Kinoshita did do a fantastic job! I remember when the ep first aired and people were pre-judging the quality simply because of that

Did she animate any other episodes after this?

My only complaint is that he didn't get a proper "farewell." After the match, we never saw him again...we don't know his future goals or anything. And he didn't have a chance to creep Dawn out one last time

Is it possible Ash was smart enough to have 3 random pokemon out to confuse anyone who spied on his training?

Aw, looks like my message didn't appear.
    Anyway, great episode 10/10
I love Conway and it's really sad to see him go. As Superpigg said, it's a shame he didn't get one last goodbye. I know he wasn't really around apart from in 2 previous arcs - but the fact the writers even brought him back as a rival is awesome in itself. I wish we knew more backstory - badges, companions (doubt it!), if that dusknoir is the one from before etc.

Anyway, nice to see Gliscor back and I liked the insert song.

    Goodbye Conway :(

    God what absolutely horrid animation.
Huh? And you can do better? I liked it.

    - croag out till next week.

Once again, I am watching without the cold opening. This cheeses me off. Anyway, odd stuff going on here. Lol, getting the attention of the champion herself is advertising to die for. ...Ash faked Conway out? What did you expect with an incredible defense like Shuckle's? How true. o.o That's a pretty advanced strategy for the anime. Lol, never a dull moment with Ash thinking outside the box. "I know Lick can cause pokemon to become paralyzed, but this is something more." Thank you for the censor dodge, writers. Go Noctowl o.o. Ouch. Punching out a pokemon while it's down. Lol, weren't you paying attention? Gible bites everything. The Ultimate Challenge is back. Pretty good. Now, the real battle begins. To be continued...
The waves of history swallow everything until we are all spat back out as flotsam, and then we are gone.

What was up with Barry voice? Did he just go through puberty during that match? Though love that Barry is a Gible fan :D But yeah, wow the voices were out of whack in this ep (or maybe I just haven't watched the dub in so long...)

I love how the writers used the quirks and uniqueness of Ash's pokémon (Noctowl's psychic abilities and Gible's habit of biting and chewing everything) to give Ash the victory. (It's refreshing after seeing Ash's Unova team be so freaking generic.)

Nothing I haven't said before when the Japanese episode aired, except... My heart melt again at the end when Ash ran to Gible and picked him up... That was so cute!!! I love that Gible finally got its own real battle and it emphasized both how it could be tough and hilarious at the same time. (Unlike Ash's current team of boring pokes who have the collective personality of moss... >_____>)

As much as I think that the Paul battle is the greatest battle ever, this is actually my favourite episode of the League... just for that Ash/Gible moment at the end of the battle. It gets to me. I heart this episode. :D

The only thing that was bad about this episode was Gliscor :D

We've been shown time and time again with trainers trying to have a calculated match and then Ash proves them wrong with his emotional investment in his Pokemon and his ability to constantly think outside the box.

Very fun episode. I was really happy that Ash used Noctowl. Noctowl was always one of my favorite pokemon of Ash's, and it was nice to see it get good screen time.

I agree. I found this battle to be one of the more interesting ones of the league so far. It held my attention the whole way through, and usually I get bored in the middle of long battles.

And I enjoy seeing Team Rocket use their business knowledge and techniques to draw in more profits :p

Cynthia was really funny when she couldn't decide what to eat! I like that little extra edition to her character, it makes her more quirky and likable

Oh my freaking god. That ice cream riceball part with Cynthia made the entire freaking episode. I'm in tears laughing.

Two things are enough to describe today's fantastic episode, a great quote and one word that needs no further explanation because it contains more than words can say:

    1. Barry: Aaaaah, Gible, yessss!
    2. C Y N T H I A

First of all, I got my favorite Pokemon (or rather evolution line) of all time, Gible and it TOTALLY rocked!
I can barely describe how overjoyed I am that this wonderful Pokemon finally got his glorious moment to shine, a battle I've been waiting for, a battle which he deserved!
Now, who's been saying that Gible would be fantastic and and has the qualities of a true champion since the very moment Ash caught it!!??
I guess this person is called Queen Cynthia!
And may I remind you how many users made fun of this brilliant Pokemon, calling it a comic relief, clumsy and all kinds of nasty things??
I want to hear that you're sorry and I'm thinking of certain users in particular ;)

    Secondly, CYNTHIA!
OH MY GOD, she was so incredible, so overwhelmingly beautiful, so majestic, so sublime! I almost thought I would have to die when I saw her.
First, her voice was so angelic and especially sensuous today!
In addition, in that scene where she was glad that Ash had won, she looked so overwhelmingly gorgeous, I guess this is one of the most beautiful pictures of Cynthia ever.

If this weren't blasphemy, I'd say "Thank you God for this masterpiece of Pokemon!"

    9/ 9.5 out of 10 points!
"When I was younger, I used to dream of nothing other than becoming powerful through being victorious in battle, and so I trained endlessly."

Borderline spam. If you're going to post something like that, the least you can do is explain yourself.

Yeah, seriously. I've said this before, but while she is not the best, she has greatly improved since she first began working on the show. Compare this to DP 4 and you wouldn't know it was the same animation director.

As for whether or not she's done any episodes since this one? Nope, oddly enough.

Honestly, I can't see what's the problem here. Gible didn't make a move, all it did was turn around and open its mouth (which is almost always open anyway). Sure, Dusknoir is moving faster than anyone can use any attacks but it isn't moving at the speed of light and attacking stuff before anyone can react. Even Noctowl had enough time to look back at Dusknoir.

I guess this person is called almost everybody around here!

It was kinda obvious that Gible would kick ass someday. No one said otherwise. Gible was very similar to Snorunt back in Hoenn. Satoshi caught both very late in their region, trained a certain moves over and over again only to have it kick ass in the league. I liked the battle very much and I like Gible, so stop acting like you were the only one to "see the light".

Uhm, Gible was always been a comedic relief Pokémon but that doesn't mean it can't kick some ass and have its fair share of wins. Gible isn't Satoshi's first Pokémon to be like this. Just take a look at Corphish...

    It really is both.

So, I (at least) won't apologise to you for anything. You are just to stuck-up to see that a dim witted, funny as hell, comedic relief Pokémon can be a good battling Pokémon.

I agree on the Kinoshita comments. She really improved over the years. Maybe she used Pokémon as a practise project only and went onto other, "more important" projects after she got better. :p

I love Gible. He is both funny and strong. I just love entertaining strong Pokemon, the typical tough Pokemon with an average personality can get boring. So to see a Pokemon that can make you laugh and you wouldn't expected to have so much power actually have it is great to see.

Now I really can't wait for the dub of the Ash vs Paul battle. Still to this day I can't believe the dub has gotten this far.

No, which is why the comment makes no sense. Donphan has always been voiced by Kenta Miyake.
