I'm not sure what else they could have done with Nando.

He interacts the same way with virtually every character and his personality is really just the same soft-spoken bard in all his appearances.

Maybe this is why he barely appeared in DP, the writers couldn't think of what else to do with him.

This battle was good but not great, IMO. I'm actually looking forward to the next one.

LOL, true.

We didn't even find out what made Nando good in both Gyms and Contests. Wasn't the whole point of this character to show that a trainer could do both Gyms AND Contests and succeed?

We never learned why Nando was able to succeed at both. They could have done more with a different type of character who wanted to do both Gyms and Contests.

While the battle between Kricketune and Heracross was great to see, I'm really disappointed that Quilava didn't get to do much against Armaldo. If they focused on the actual battle instead of all the cutaways, this episode would have been a lot better.

All in all, a decent, but not fulfilling beginning to the league.

Makes you wonder why Staraptor was here too.

They should have had Muk/Glalie or anyone else here who didn't get a match.

Really, this whole battle was messed up in general. The writers spotlighted the wrong Pokemon.

~Sweet scent, although useless in the game, is a Godsend in the anime since everyone keeps DODGING everything.

~You know, when Nando first appeared, I had high expectations for him. We never had a dual coordinator/trainer and his personality and mannerisms were unique. But I guess unique doesn't always mean better. I'm glad that he got his last battle with Ash, but his farewell was unsatisfactory...I wonder why they even put him there in the first place :/

That's actually a good point. The only Pokemon that got two battles that really needed two battles in the league were Gible and Pikachu. Gible because it's done nothing besides traumatize Piplup since its capture, and Pikachu because it's Pikachu. If any other Sinnoh Pokemon should've been in this battle, it should've been Torterra, so it'd have a chance to not be completely useless.

Quilava should've been the star of this match and won it, and Heracross gets another battle anyway, so the spots that went to Staraptor and Heracross could've been given to Muk/Bayleef/Totodile/Corphish/Glaile.

What we got was still a decent battle, though. All 3 Pokemon got a win, and knowing that Ash would use a move like Sleep Talk shows he's really come a long way over the years.

I dont know what to think of this episode, seemed rushed to me. I only enjoyed roserade in this episode, and what it was commanded to do. Sweetscent/magical leaf combo, a bit odd to me though.
Krinketune and heracross was intersting also. A solid episode, however i expected more from the likes of nando
