Shows Lady Gaga's influence. Some think she invented the phrase.

You know, I just find it weird that he uses it because Lady Gaga uses it the most often. Yes, I knew that, I just found it somewhat coincidencial with Lady Gaga. There's really no need to go all sarcastic.

Silly Barry got me laughing the whole time with his yelling about being left out

I also thought it was cute/funny seeing Dawn go chibi form after Paul saw her eavesdropping. But Dawns face after Barry said something would've been more affected to Barry saying sometihng "Sounds like you were asking Paul to be your boyfriend werent you?"

The battle was pretty good but the Buizel/Drapion thing reminded me of King Kong for some reason

I just thought it was funny he'd say "poker face" of all things.

One of my favorite parts was seeing Buizel go "Sonic Riders" after dodging Cross Poison to use Sonicboom.

The Dawn/Paul moment was good, but as some people already mentioned...this episode was a bit rushed. It would have been best if more time were put into the time before the match. There was so much potential in this episode, but it just fell a bit short for me.

I like how Reggie mentioned that Paul's first 2 losses were part of his plan. When I first saw it, I was confused as to why he didn't change his Pokemon instead of letting them stay out there and get beat. I mean using Flash Cannon against a Mach Punch and expecting it to hit first?? Come on Paul...thankfully its part of the plan.

Too bad Drapion and Ursaring couldn't be on the same team, they would have raped Ash's team (just keep Infernape away from Ursaring though).

Another thing that disappoints me is sending out Infernape this early in the match. The Electavire/Infernape match would be more epic if they were the last 2 standing with full energy and HPs, but that's for a future episode, back to the one at hand...

Funny, how Flash Cannon didn't HIT Pikachu it blasted the ground in front of it.

Gastrodon being knocked out in one hit (though it did take Quick Attack earlier, and possibly some of its Water Pulse hit it as well and not to mention taking on Ice Aqua Jet), it should have been able to stay in there longer. Ok, so since this is the anime I guess that its under-belly is more vulnerable because its shell used to be on its back. So, Buizel's Ice Punch hit its vulnerable side and froze it to finish it off.

I think that Counter Shield from Paul was awesome; Reggie explained how and why he used it against Ash. To me it’s more of a, "Anything you can do, I can do better!" It was like a Counter-Counter-Counter-Counter Shield; It starts off with Muddy Water to protect itself while damaging a foe that gets too close leaving only its belly vulnerable and when an opponent figures it out to attack, it jumps and nails them with Body Slam, it then shoots Water Pulse up in the air and since cold air (along with precipitation) falls instead of rises it will gain more power, and finally it dodges and allows the powered-up Water Pulse to finish the job...but WAIT the back-up plan is to fire a mid-air Ice Beam on the unsuspecting foe if they do manage to escape. Paul had that planned out with multiple strategies!! If you count it out its 4 “Counters” the first for protection, next to nail the opponent off-guard, then to finish it with a powered up Water Pulse and finally (only if the opponent escapes) a mid-air Ice Beam.

Loved the Thunderbolt that literally exploded when it hit Aggron.

That's all I can think of so far, but I can't wait to see the follow up episodes for this. Too bad Conway wasn't here to watch...

Lol, @ "Handomse" appearing again in reguards to Piplup.

At any rate, it was a decent episode. Though, part's 2 and 3 of this battle are better IMO.

"Kakkoii" means "cool," it can also mean "attractive" or "stylish". Hikari/Dawn probably just meant that he was cool.

What scene is the Lady Gaga reference?

They made Paul more of an ass in this episode. When he realized Ash was using the same Pokemon...I don't recall him ever calling Ash pathetic, and predictable in the Jap version.

I never listen to Lady Gaga, so what exactly does having a poker face have to do with her? It's just a common expression...

Anyway, the episode was a pretty good start to the battle, but part two is where things really get good.

It makes me sad that people think Lady Gaga invented the phrase "Poker Face" just because one of her best known songs is called that. You want to know where Poker face most likely came from?

    Wait for it...

    Poker (Ohmigodrlynowai!)

That's like saying Justin Bieber invented the word "Baby".

We're arguing over the orgins of the term "Poker Face".

...This is really the dumbest arguement to have. Seriously.

Wow, this scene with Dawn and Paul...this is unlike anything I've seen the anime do. Ouch. Go Infernape o.o. Bird rape commences. Go Bui. Now the battle begins indeed. Really good. To be continued...

So that convo between Dawn and Paul brings it to what, 20 or so complete sentences in almost 200 episodes? Almost all of them revolving around Ash.

    Yep, that means wuv obviously.

Anyway, putting that stupidity aside, this was a pretty good ep. Paul's Aggron suits him though I would have rather seen Magmortar again than Gastrodon.
