I wonder how funny it is how DP has changed a lot of things. Like how Tobias has no -son at the end. Maybe they'll change it to Tobiasson in the near future?

To be quite honest, I wanted a Barry vs. Paul match in the Sinnoh League since his first appearance and I think that it makes more sense to have those two battle in the league than for Barry to battle with Ash. Especially since I think Conway wants to battle against Ash and may not have been able to do so if Paul and Barry were chosen to battle.
I thought that the battle was better than what we got last week. It would have been better if Barry had been able to defeat Ursaring, but he still showed that he trained his Pokemon really well and he did last a bit longer than I thought he would.
I'm glad the dub mimicked the Japanese version by not playing any music when Empoleon was deemed unable to battle. Playing any piece of music at that moment would have ruined it.
That's actually a mistranslation of what was said in the original. In the Japanese version, everyone talks about how looking up the data on the computer doesn't necessarily mean you'll be prepared for battle since a trainer can always use a new strategy that hasn't been documented yet.Originally Posted by Chief Cinnamon Bun

I don't get it. Empoleon was done because Barry ran onto the field?
For some reason I was very annoyed during the battle, but I can't say exactly what it was. Just Barry had something that didn't run over well to me.
Is that Marc Thompson doing the voice of the line judge guy? Seems weird hearing his voice in that place.
Actually I don't think Barry's actions had really anything to do with him losing. If you watch Electivire, you'll notice how at first it's tense after the attack and then it lightens up like "Empoleon isn't doing anything, it's not reacting" At that point Barry knew Empoleon couldn't battle and ran out and so did the referee by saying Empoleon couldn't battle. Now I'm not saying Electivire's reaction is why Empoleon is unable to battle, I'm not saying it's a cause, but an effect. Electivire stopped being tense because Empoleon wasn't reacting at all, thus Barry could see Empoleon wasn't moving, and realized that it couldn't battle any further.

This episode wasn't so bad thanks to Conway making three creepy appearances in one episode. It was obvious that Paul would beat Barry without having to speculate anything and I was really surprised to hear Paul say that the battle was great.
Well, it just goes to show you what a real battler does. Gets the opponent to feel sorry for his Pokemon.
Three names is enough for it to become a trend.
I liked how when they were looking up the data on the computers, there was a split second moment between Ash and Paul. I just love how they continue to show that tension between them even when elaborating on a different plot point.
But, yeah, the computer scene was a mistranslation. Barry basically said in the original that looking up data wasn't all that useful because Paul could always do something that's not documented.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul is a powerful trainer, but seriously? Hitmonlee gets knocked out by a Slash and a Focus Blast while Ursaring survives multiple Blaze Kicks and a Close Combat?
Empoleon should have beaten Magmortar with Hydro Cannon. Heck, my Gardevoir knocked out Flint's Magmortar with a Psychic.
Life sucks if youre not part of the plot

I would have taken the Johto-style Round Robbin with Ash, Conway and Barry in trio.
I don't think three names is enough to make it a trend when we're talking Pokemon, where we've had hundreds of names, haha.
I agree; Ursaring should NOT have survived so many hits. But yeah, goes to show that Barry did overtrain Empoleon and didn't give enough focus to his other Pokemon - since it's his strongest, though, it should've at least taken Magmortar out. This makes Barry look like a very bad trainer... which I'm sure he isn't.
