I wonder if the writers just don't like the Johto starters in general.

Typlosion has hardly any screentime in the anime, only appearing in the Raikou special and in Flannery's episodes back in Hoenn.

Ferligatr got a few more appearances, but honestly not much.

Meganium had quite a few appearances, but we've seen far more Venusaur owned throughout the show



Anyway it does seem odd. HGSS was supposed to give the Johto Pokemon spotlight, and it didn't really do that. Even Dawn's Cydnaquil got minimal role in the Grand Festival, not even getting a full battle.

I know. What was the point in showcasing them in the first place? Them simply existing is not an appropriate way to handle these monsters. Granted we did have some Chikorita/Cyndaquil/Totodile and their higher forms some screen time but the way they made Ash use them is just an insult to everybody.

Well, maybe I jumped the gun, but the way this episode ended somehow implied that the next one will start with the battles immediately. But ok, let's wait and see.

It's just like the Olympics. One night they have the Torch Ceremony, and the next day the battles begin.
