Ha ha. Piplup is always awesome in Oohashi episodes.

"Why are you singing?" That's exactly what I'd like to know Roland...

Bertha is really awesome, though a bit rude.

Good job telling everyone her secret Brock! Bertha is gonna get you kicked off the show for this!

Ha. I love that armor Carnivine and Seviper have.

Aside from a bit too much dub music, this episode was ok. I was actually pretty bored the entire time. It felt like some random "Let's help a kid because TR is causing trouble" filler, except had an Elite 4 member tacked on to make it important. I'm so glad most DP episodes aren't like this.

Actually, you're only supposed to make a thread an hour at the earliest before the episode airs. There's no need to make one a few hours before it airs.

I don't watch the dub that much but I thought I'd give this episode a try. I actually quite enjoyed it. I think that Bertha was more interesting then Aaron and Lucian ever were and I thought it was quite cool that Torterra got to be used. I also liked the observation stuff as it shows that Ash can learn a lot from his superiors.

I liked the episode but it felt so short for me. Probably because 1/2 of it was spent on getting Roland's Magby back.

I also thought Magby would evolve after battling TR since that's what Roland wanted.

I like how Bertha's voice was intensified when the smoke was surrounding Hippowdon and Torterra. The animation was great during the battle, as well. I wish Ash would've commanded Torterra to use Rock Climb while Hippowdon was underground though.

And Piplup gets dissed yet again. Poor penguin.

They simply ruined the battle between Hippowdon and Torterra by replacing the background music from the Giratina movie with their own terrible and uninspiring music.

Japanese version with movie 11 music during the battle = I was on the edge of my seat.

    English version: Almost fell asleep.

The difference was enormous. This is why you shouldn't watch the dub. =(

I don't why, but I laughed when Roland said "why are you singing?".

I also laughed when Jessie said "eat my pink dust!"

So good episode, Bertha is awesome. Don't know what else to say.

But the dub doesn't always remove background music that really impact a scene. The amount of original background music TPCI removes and the amount they keep varies from each episode

Do I do admit it if a background music that becomes noticeable to me, for example makes an awesome scene even more awesome is replaced in the dub I don't like it as it doesn't give out the same impact and feeling.

The armor on the Rocket pokemon was kind of weird and random but still awesome. I wish they had cool stuff like in more episodes.

Bertha was more amazing than I thought she would be: wise, stern, alert, and tough.

    Fantastic episode!

The BGM aside (something common in 90% of episodes), this was a really good episode.

The general purpose of this episode was still kept. Bertha advised Ash and his friends to be more observent of their surroundings, not only in the battlefield but in life as well.

Kairyu, as far as the scripting goes, this episode was dubbed great. Roland's remark to TRio: "Why are you singing?" was priceless.

Torterra VS Hippowdon only took up 3 minutes of the episode.

Just because they cut out a lot of the original soundtrack is no reason to skip the English dub completely. .

I thought it was a really nice episode. I likes Roland's line - 'Why are you singing?'
I liked the animation in this episode too! Was really nicely done. Bertha had a great personality too.

I really enjoyed watching this episode just because I thought Bertha was a really interesting character. She's a good teacher for Ash. I like how she just guided the group and let them figure out things for themselves rather than just flat out tell them what to do. That way, Ash (and the group) were able to take the initiative and think for themselves. That's what a good teacher should do!

And Piplup was hilarious, as usual

    Ok, saw today's episode and...

    - You know, occasionally the dub will do a good job at replacing background music... this, of course, was not one of those times. The Japanese version had music that made me excited. The dub just made me want to sleep.
    - Wait... Team Rocket had a Gliscor-bot inside their balloon? Was it left over from when Ash actually had one.
    - HOORAY! Boss fantasy!
    - I liked how Bertha made a point of saying the lesson she was trying to teach Ash during the battle could also be used to help Dawn in contests... it's just a pity we never see either of them use this advice.
    - Magby huh? Guess this is one of the final bits of promotion that HGSS are going to get in the show.
    - Why is the narrator calling Valor Lakefront the 'Lakeside Resort' anyway? I'm not blaming the dub for this, because it's also present in the Japanese version but seriously, what gives.

Anyway, BGM aside, this was a pretty good episode. 4/5.

Ash has gained maturity since then. He'll really show it off in future episodes.

First of all: Hooray I finally arrived in LA!

    As for the episode itself:
Elite Four episodes have always been my favorite ones and this one was no different! Bertha is an fantastic character and a worthy Elite Four member.

It's good that the battle was so short, otherwise I would have complained that Ash was able to stand his ground so long against a member of the Elite Four. The battle was just great as it was. I especially liked the scene where Bertha was covered by the dust and was speaking as if she was an invisible ghost. This was both mysterious and impressive alike! I love it whenever mystery and action is combined in Pokemon. Great job!

But would you mind explaining to me what was so special or funny about Roland's question "Why are you singing?" ? I really have a sense of humor but the humor in this scene was beyond me.

All in all, a great episode

Because they were only singing in the dub version, and the fact that Roland asked why they were singing is a sort of irony fans of the original would find humourous.
